HOUSE OF BARBOVIC, called BARBANOV in the normal speak, claims lineage from Saint Joren Horenson himself, the first of the High Kings of the North. Further down, the house claims descent or kinship from Barbov the Black, its nominal description, Rovyk the Stern, Saint Julia of Paradisius, Saint Lothar of Balian, Saint Adrian of Leuvaarden, Blessed Jan Jeremi, Blessed Francis the Martyr, Blessed Otto of Vanderfell, and most importantly, coming from the loins of Exalted Sigismund himself, Prophet of Revelations.

 

The House stands as a ducal family in the Holy Kingdom of Oren, with Lord Karl III. holding the duchy of Haense, inherited from his Rovin uncle. Once, however, the family stood as Imperial Princes, the Lord and Lady Barbanov’s father, Alexander I being Emperor of Oren. Even so, from the Lord and Lady Barbanov’s maternal side, they were once Princes of the Hansetians, being of the now destroyed and defunct Kingdom of Aesterwald.

-House Lore-

HOUSE BARBANOV OF HAENSE has no long lineage, that be accustomed to its parent houses of Karovic and Rovin, or its cousins of House de Sarkozy, House of Kovac, or even House of Vladovic. The House comes from the loins of EMPEROR ALEXANDER I CARRION and his wife, PRINCESS ARABELLA ROVIN, married per a peace contract between the Empire of Oren and the newly vassalized Kingdom of Aesterwald. The union, however, was nay a happy one.

 

After the start of the infamous RENATUS REBELLION, sparked by protests of the arrest of the Grand Knight, the Princess stole the two babes born of her and Alexander’s coupling; the twins Karl and Lorin. It is unsure how the Princess transferred the babes unnoticed, but eventually the twins found their way under the tutelage of PRINCE OTTO ROVIN, with their father deposed and presumed dead and their mother dying of a hunting accident. Under the guise that they were his bastards, the two babes eventually grew from sucking on the teat, to toddlers, and eventual kids, roaming the Waldenian Royal keep aimlessly, as children do.

 

Change appeared, however, when KING VORON I ROVIN died, replaced by his Raevir-hating son, KING ARN III ROVIN. It is under King Arn’s reign that the Raevir minority of Aesterwald was pushed out, killed, or worse. His hate went so far, eventually to curse HIGH PONTIFF DANIEL I, a known Carrion bastard, and declare a schism, putting his own kinsman Hubert as anti-Pontiff. Despite propaganda within the Northern kingdom, it did not bode well to the populace.

 

Defeat after defeat, and the SCHISM WAR, as it came to called after the Duchy of Savoy came to aid of the Kingdom of Akovia, rolled on. Desertion from the Waldenian ranks became more frequent, with even the King’s own kin abandoning his unjust cause. OTTO ROVIN, taking along the child Karl and Lorin, left the Kingdom (before, of course, posting the Condemnation of Arn’s Reign). Otto and the children fled to CYRIAUM, where he took work as the Papal Guard of HIGH PONTIFF DANIEL I. It is here where Otto finally told Karl and his sister of his true heretige, where the High Pontiff confirmed as true.

 

For the next ten years, Karl trained underneath not only his Uncle, but of the numerous heroes of the SCHISM WAR. As his uncle dealt with the political nature of the Waldenian Realm, Karl fought with the likes of BLESSED EMMA VLADOVIC, the woman-warrior with a thirst of heretic blood, the unifier of humanity himself, KING ANDREW I VYRDA, and the current king, KING OLIVER I ASHFORD. From the teachings of King Andrew and King Oliver, Karl grew to understand the affairs of state and nobility, eventually growing out from the child of a drunken uncle to a successful and witty statesman. It is also during the SCHISM WAR that Karl took up his name BARBANOV, after urging of his cousin and High Pontiff Daniel I, in honor of BARBOV THE BLACK.

 

After KING ARN III ROVIN died from burning down his precious Vanderfell and Eagle’s Perch, Karl joined his guardian Otto to pick up the pieces. Forming the unsuccessful NORTHERN COMMONWEALTH, Karl help fight against the Dwarves in the FOURTH DWARF-HUMAN WAR, taking a penchant to the killing of midgets and eventually, the High Elves who killed the fair KING ANDREW I VYDRA. It is then when Karl, with Vladov allies and the small retinue of the Commonwealth, took the HOLD OF HIEBENHALL, eventually to be named SIEGRAD, the new capital of the Northern Realm. Karl established himself as the COUNT OF SIEGRAD thereafter, holding the title to this day.

Once his guardian and uncle, OTTO ROVIN, left to go chase down rumors of Arn living within the secluded land of AELDIN, Karl took up the reigns of the Commonwealth, disbanding its entirety and eventually to name himself the DUKE OF HAENSE. As of now, the DUKE KARL III BARBOVIC stewards his capital of SIEGRAD, one of the most populous cities within the Kingdom, as well as working where his uncle left off: rebuilding the Northern Realm.
