Watch Yu-Gi-Oh. This is my favorite scene from it:

This was a filler episode dedicated to Joey Wheeler and Seto Kaiba and how they actually met each other as kids. This was truly one of the greatest things I have ever seen, since you wouldn't believe the kind of friendship they had as kids, I mean, the chemistry took me by surprise.

You asked, so here goes. I grew up in the 90's when anime was a deal on CN. I always remember when I was a kid and would be at my grandmothers house watching DBZ, Gundam, or even sailor moon when I was just a little kid. I also fondly remember watching a lot of it with my brother or with family around. I even remembered watching Blue Submarine No. 6 at a Christmas party with all of the family there upstairs talking.

Time passed though and I found myself being home-schooled because I just needed the extra attention. I didn't really have many real friends for years since the only people I ever really got to know were the kids around the neighborhood. In the end, I found myself at home all the time with vast amounts of time on my hands and nothing to do but either play some crappy video game, watch television, or play with toys. I spent a lot of the afternoon watching CN where they again would have anime like Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I also would stay up late at night expecially on Fridays to watch Zatch Bell and Gundam Seed episodes. I still remember my mom not letting me stay up to 11 to watch the last Gundam episode and making her record the whole thing haha.

More time passed, I got fat for a while, then hit puberty at like 11 and when I entered the 6th grade at a local private school I was about 5'6"-5'7" I think and weighed 160-170 pounds. I had some trouble in school socially since I probably was at the social level of a 2nd/3rd grader with a bunch of ex public schoolers, but it wasn't even because of anime or anything like you'd. My problem was I was a HUGE gun/war buff. Remember how I said I had toys? I had four of those big plastic storage containers full of mostly military toys like plastic soldiers, tanks, AC-130's, helicopters, sailing ships, legos, and even a couple aircraft carriers. I ended up having problems at school because I would never shut up about guns or military stuff half the time, but I digress. Somewhere in that time around 5th/6th grade I discovered the internet and the concept of an AMV. This led me to an AMV that is taken down now so I can't show you. That AMV though led me to watch an anime called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya over the internet, and it was the first of many. I actually still remember asking an 8th grader what melancholy even meant, to which they responded by being a complete ass and asking me why I wanted to know eleven times and not just telling me.

Around that time I also joined a homeschool/private school football team made for kids who otherwise wouldn't have anywhere to go if they wanted to play sports. That helped a TON when it came to socialization. The middle school was nothing compared to the high schoolers that I was around every practice. I really enjoyed football, and I started actually making some friends, but let's get back on track with the anime stuff. I started binge watching anime online while I was in middle school and somehow knew it was a social stigma to really talk about. So I didn't and just watched it on my own which I was perfectly happy with. I had some minor problems when I DID try and talk about it to some friends, but I quickly learned I was more or less the only kid that watched that stuff anymore. I still remember watching Code Geass, Clannad, and Toradora all as they were released while I was in the 7th/8th grade.

Anyways, I eventually graduate middle school and start planning on High School. A lot of thought was put into this as my family and I deliberated over if I should go to another private school or go to the public school. A big part of this decision was my football team. I had been with them for 3 years, but I wanted to give public school a shot. We had always heard that specific public school had **** coaches and whatnot, so we were kind of weary. Anyways, I ended up joining in on their workouts when they were already a month into it so I was way behind. I remember laying on the floor in a puddle of my own sweat just gasping for breath since I had never really worked out that hard in my life. It didn't help when I then had to go out and run on a track for 15 minutes. Long story short, I threw up, it sucked. Anyways, my dad ended up pulling me out of it for no other reason than he saw a coach hit one of the players and decided he didn't want me under men like that. At this point, just for point of view, I should mention my dad was the star linebacker when he was in High School and went on to play college ball, so it's not like he was just some overprotective father that didn't know what he was doing. The home-school team just had better more friendly coaches there, and it had a very supportive brotherly atmosphere that I had come to be familiar with.

So I join up with another private school that the head coaches wife actually ran, and I started having even more time on my hands because I only went twice a week and otherwise did tons of homework. I'll just be frank, I am pretty sure when I wasn't playing video games, football, working out, or watching TV I was definitely watching anime. I had so much time on my hands it was ridiculous and had no other way to manage it than by just doing stuff to make it pass as quickly as possible. I specifically remember staying up late at night to watch Tengenn Toppa Gurren Lagann on the Scifi channel I think when they played anime. More time passes though and I eventually leave that private school. The last year I was on the team was pretty different. We had a friend who's dad is /super/ rich and we would go to his house after every game and get drunk and talk about the going-ons of the team.

I stopped watching a lot of anime at that point because I was hanging out with friends so often. Time passed and the season ended, It's kind of funny, but one of the fondest memories I have is when I thought one of the last years I might not play because of school. I remember getting out of the car with my pads and starting to walk down to the field and every single player on the whole football team clapping.because I was coming back. It's honestly making me tear up thinking about it. Aw ****, now I miss playing football. *sigh* Anyways, I should just sort of add in it was on my birthday of my last season I got accepted on LotC, April 2nd 2013. Honestly Minecraft took a lot of Anime's steam. I could play minecraft for hours on end and I think honestly it had a big part in my slowing down on watching anime. Well, that and the fact I've literally watched nearly all of the good stuff.

I recently got back into watching it, especially on Netflix. I don't watch stuff online too much, usually only stuff that is on Netflix and looks good. Anyways, let me go ahead and conclude this.

TL;DR: I've watched anime my whole life since I was like 5. if you read that up there you'll notice I basically just told you my life story by telling you about my experience with anime. It reminds me of different points in my life when I watch it, and honestly, I'm so used to anime from watching it so much the weirdness of it doesn't even begin to register anymore. I get bored easily too, but anime is very broad in its scope. There's a basic formula for some genres, but occasionally you get a really unique and memorable one. If you really wanted to watch anime (which you don't/already do and just act like you don't) I'd tell you to go watch the dubbed version of one called Baccano. It's about a train ride in the 1930's America where a bunch of stuff happens. I won't spoil it anything for anyone else, but I will say there are a ton of accents that they hit spot on typical of the early 1900's. It's probably the best english dub ever made in anime, and really it's worth watching.

I hate anime because all anime I've seen besides Studio Ghibli works (Miyazaki thinks Anime is a mistake) were markedly low-quality, like worse than Cartoon Network shows for the most part. There are exceptions that prove the rule, but for the most part I hate the glorification of badly-written cartoons because it's 'Anime' and therefore acceptable.
