When being part of a community that you once loved and found joy in turns into a matter of feeling obligated to stay, rather than wanting, having the passion to, you have to take a step back.

 

Why am I here, on this server? It used to be my favourite pass time, though thinking back, perhaps it was my most harmful, perhaps I should have made this post sooner. I no longer feel the motivation to code for Lord of the Craft. Months I did, but my passion has been lost. My only reason to remain holds in obligation to do such, and I will not let that keep me from fulfilling larger things, and moving on.

 

This is not a post to try to say what’s wrong with the server, but I will list my main reasons for my inevitable depart:

• Inability to work with the Global Moderators. Although a time back I was friends with almost all of them and got along quite well with most, things have changed. There are people in leadership now who I am simply not compatible with, who hold very different views, and who I have more conflicts with than agreements.

• Friends departing. I’ve switched player groups a lot, and so have some of my friends, some even leaving the community. I’ve made them and lost them, and have very few left. Being in the position I am on staff, I only feel myself becoming more distanced from the community with very little new friendships being forged.

• Real life. I will be going away to university in the fall and want to make the best out of the two months I have left to spend with my friends in town before I head out.

Those are the main reasons behind my departure. I am leaving the Development Team under the watchful eye of Tythus and Kalen. I don’t know if Tythus still holds passion for this server, but Kalen does. Don’t get me wrong, I very much still have a passion for coding, roleplay and building, but not here. I’ll give a few thank-yous to certain groups and people, then I’m off.

 

The Development Team:

You guys are by far one of my favourite teams, and I am so proud of all of you. You are a dedicated group with a passion for coding, creating, and seeing your ideas come to life and be used by those who grow to love them. I will miss working with every single one of you, and seeing the great things you produce. Keep doing what you guys do best.

 

The Admins:

Although we have our conflicts on many things, you guys truly are some of the best leadership figures this server has seen in a long time, and when you all work together I believe your team has all the attributes needed to run this server incredibly.

 

The Global Moderators:

Although I haven’t gotten along well with the better part of you, your work recently and during the map transition was astounding. Don’t get me wrong, I will never deny the existence of the clique some of you have, but at least it works. Keep on creating our server’s future and doing what you do best - moderating. Ricky, Dizzy and Lark are my favourites.

 

The Application Team:

You guys have always been great, ever since I joined the AT back in 2013 I’ve been proud of how well you work and how friendly you are. Keep up the great job, and start having the person with the highest count chose the team lead’s profile picture again, that was fun.

 

The Forum Moderators:

Honestly, you guys blow me away. I see the FMs as one of the most mature groups of staff on the server, and do a damn good job in keeping our streets clean. The diligence and efficiency in which this group works makes me proud to be one of them, and sat to leave them behind.

 

The Dwarves:

I really had some great times with you guys, probably one of my more fun times on LOTC. Although you are a younger group, you know how to play this game and have fun, be fair, kind, and just generally easy to get along with. I’ll miss you all, except bort.

 

The High Elves:

It will be very hard to summarize the gratitude have towards the group. Once you get to know the High Elves they can honestly be the friendliest group on the server, there Skype chat like no other. If I’m still lingering about in the future it will be with you guys. So many of you have become my friends and helped me get through a lot in life this past year. maehr’sae hiylun’eya, kina ito elvalahan.

 

My Teamspeak Group:

You guys know who you are, the ones who are in my TS daily, just chatting about things or being productive on the server. I love talking to you guys for hours on end and get along great with most of you. I will be keeping my TS up as long as can. You’re always welcome and will always be my friends. Except maybe Heero.

 

There’s so many individual shout outs I’d have to write that it would take me hours, so I’ll just list some people I’d like to give a special thanks to:

Heero, Dizzy, Josh3738, Ski, Nalatac, Tythus, Kalen, Desi, Kuroi, Monkey (mon cher!), Aengoth, Cooter, Charoodler, Destinator, samler, Overland, Lana, Arteh & Jade. You guys were some of my better friends on LOTC, and I’ll never forget all the things you’ve all individually done for me and helped me through.
