Vailor Charter System

 Share

Recommended Posts

Essentially, unless your a guild or approved by a nation you can't obtain any form of land for yourself outside of capitals? Holy cow does this feel like crapsulon, excuse me Asulon. If you're going to do it this way why not implement Vip plots again? or add small areas of free build across the roads that can switch between owners for dynamics sake? It just seems so pointless to leave so much land untouchable and ugly it leaves the whole world horrendously stagnant.

At this point, the donation plot system should be re implemented. It seems fair.

Here's the very problem with these "guild" charters. And whoever feels the need to call me out on complaining needs to shut their mouths.

1.) It forces secretive guilds who are meant to be IC and OOCly secretive to get on the forums and announce their super secret guild, especially when they are asked what area they're claiming. No one needs to be on the forums to play the game, and no one should be forced to give out information that is liable to be metagamed.

2.) The requirements of such guild is too steep. 20,000 minas is asking far too much for a simple guild, who just want a simple place out on the field. What happens to guilds that aren't villanous, magical, or combative by nature, but instead just a guild of scientists of four looking to solve a common goal? The number of players needed is just way too high. No one is making a giant town, nation, or anything, just a simple manor or something to carry at least 5 people.

I agree with Cyndikate, and firmly believe that LotC should be playable without the forums. This is taking ooc restriction to a whole new level on something I don't think is an issue to begin with. Realistically, we implemented this to centralize RP, set a standard for guilds and organizations, and keep Vailor looking clean. All are very good goals that we should be striving towards, but inhibiting rp is not the answer, I'd wager it's never the answer.

I like that we're trying stuff, I like that we're deciding a direction for our server; more discussion needs to happen, more solutions need to be discussed. Sorry, I think this is bad. I read the charter app and cringed - like, **** man, just let me rp ya' know?

Guess that means whitelist applications are a restriction to. Lets become Massivecrafft!

It can still be tweaked as needed, give it a chance, see where it goes and adjust as needed.

You can still RP, you can still have your town/guild/nation/taco stand.

You can have your guild stationed within nation roleplay borders.

Same with your town.

Nations are reserved for large amounts of players and should always be.

The Charter System is only needed by nation leaders, and people who refuse to live within a nation.

All guilds are given different mina requirements to make their guild. If you aren't villainous, combative, or magical. Why are not within a nation? There is actually zero reason for you to avoid a nation if you don't need to. Simply because you wish to? That is worse for RP in the server than you claim the Charters are. Why avoid a nation and live out in the middle of nowhere through this charter system when you can just ask a nation for land within their borders OOC or IC?

Are you actually that against nations that you see no other option but the Charter system?

The Charter system serves as an option for people who have been turned down from all nations for land, but still wish to acquire land. The Charter system is so that magic/villainous guilds can easily acquire land if they are event-driven and provide to the playerbase. The Charter system is for people who aspire to be independent nations.

Vailor is meant to improve nation RP, the entirety of it is designed for it. So get involved within a nation and start your little group of scientists there.

Stop being a hermit, hermit characters that are actually hermits MCly are boring.

The Charter System is only needed nation leaders, and people who refuse to live within a nation in this moment.

What about guilds or groups that no one wants around, like the edgy people? The nations don't want our scientists around and if we do anything weird, we'd just end up killed. We'd ask nations oocly for land and so far no one wants to give us land.

The charter system forces guilds or people who can't be in nations to give out ooc information to nations and guild who will use it to raid them. It enforces the fact that we need to be on the forums for the game to be playable and that's also not good for new players. If there's a way to have a private charter via PM then that'd be nice.

To be fair, it seems like the most popular settlements in Athera were settlements that probably would have been shot down in this new charter system (e.g. The Islamic Caliphate of Gaius Faiz Abu Bakr Khan, The Salvian Republic of Detroit, etc). In fact, these settlements were an issue for nations, and forced them to compete for manpower.

I'm worried that this charter system will remove any component of competition between settlements. The charter system puts a barrier of entry onto land, possibly resulting in the stagnation of nations -- if there are little to no new settlements competing, why should existing settlements work hard to get the RP? Yeah, in theory, nations always have their best interest (i.e. lots of RP) at heart, but in practice we've seen that nations go inactive when there is no pressing need to work for their RP (e.g. a war).

The Asulonian charter system failed. Undoubtedly. This one may not fail, but it does seem modeled eerily similar to the Asulonian model. Perhaps an incorporation of the Nexus pillar system, somehow, could render the system more conducive to RP or at least increase convenience? For instance, maybe include a button on the Nexus interface that redirects players to the charter page? I don't know. Not my job to think of ideas. (Note: I haven't played much on Vailor so I'm not sure how the current plugins are configured)

My point is that, while I am a huge proponent for an emphasis on nation RP, nations shouldn't be babied. If it's easy for them to rake in all the newbies (since they're the only settlements), they won't do **** to try. And that's how nations become shitty. I'm not sure if this system will do that, but it could.

Seems similar to the Asulon system. Interesting how cyclical things seem to be.

Learn from history, so you can watch it repeat itself.

Okay.. let me get this straight you're comparing an application that is essential to the server because it weeds out the extreme trolls and acts as a bit of learning experience for new players before logging in to this utter nonsense? wat.

There's no comparison, this is another pointless hindrance to roleplay that requires people to get on to the forums instead of you know roleplaying. I thought the main stride from Anthos into Athera was less forum use and more rp thus the implementation of something like nexus regions, which in my opinion just needs some tweaking. Also why give it a chance when we've seen it fail before? Was this not a thing in Asulon and did it not crash and burn? It just boggles my mind that no ones learning from past mistakes and instead they're backtracking this hard.

That's a good point, nations should be the center of rp, and it's great that we've decided to address this. The problem is that instead of placing the burden on the nation, where it should be, we're now placing it on the guilds. The nation should be the one trying to retain and appease these guilds, much like a government in real life; it's responsibility is to its people. At the moment if you have your pick of Oren, Dwarves, and Woodelves. These nations are perpetually ran by inactive but revered members, who at most sometimes start a war. I'm about ready for a leader who is focused on the state of his own nation, and driving rp within it.

So yeah, we do need to address the stagnation we're seeing in these nations, but you're starting in the wrong spot.

Seems pretty comparable to me, both are applications that weed put unneeded players/settlements. The nexus region system could have been tweaked yes, but its too late. The map was not designed for it and its gone. I cannot speak on how Asulon's charter system worked because I didn't play much. From what I remember it was similar to Nexus Regions in that places were spread out anyways. As for forum use, whats wrong with the forums. I've always found them an essential part of the server and a good way to connect with the community and get a better idea of the general consnsus of things. I never heard we were going to reduce forum usage, and I see no reason why we should.

There is a difference between an entry way for players to be allowed in the server, and a blatant OOC barrier that stifles roleplay in which being on the forums is required. The forums serve as an OOC medium. There isn't anything wrong with the forums, but there's a lot of things wrong with being forced to go on an OOC medium to do something in RP. People should get on the forums because they want to ask questions or have a discussion, not so they can play the game. It's not a healthy system to have especially for new players.

I have a feeling history will repeat itself, but I'll give it a chance I guess.

One effects OOC access to a server: whitelisting

One effects IC progression of guilds/groups and various independent parties ICwise and their ability to access the rest of the player base from a position they want to be at.

Other then that..while I don't like the system we have resorted to I understand why to some level. It's just disappointing we have to resort to this, again.

Pity there is no wilds..would of loved to have my vip plot at least even if it was in the middle of nowhere. And I much prefer a wilds to having have a tree farm or nation access to get your herbs and such for crafting. As is you either join a nation our your sol when it comes to skills for the most part.
