Love, Laity and Longevity

A thesis on how the faith is best spread and grown in peace, and how the laity helps to create this peace.  Written by Acolyte Aemolius Lepidus Bracchus on the 8th of  The Deep Cold, 1515, and forwarded quickly to the High Pontiff. Copies are explicitly written and sent to all cities.

For nearly a decade, men and women of Oren have experienced a martial peace; one that was won in war. We, as Orenians, reap the benefits of a stable, secure state, but fail as Canonists to truly appreciate this, and take advantage of the opportunity to spread this peace to those of other faiths, or who are simply without.

In recent years, following the destruction of the corrupt elements in the governments of our vassals, there has not been any sort of  notable turmoil within our borders. In this time, the Order of St. Daniel has been created, and the church has seen itself re-expand in an effort to re-strengthen its presence in coming to Vailor. This has lead to the faithful being better catered to, but has failed to see the expansion of the laity thus far.

Why is this? Because we have only catered to the current laity, rather than the future laity. The open hand of God has been kept behind a veil as far as they know, as many of these men and women are not even offered an ever present respect and love of the Creator through a representative of God.

As we have Deacon’s and bishops in the cities of Oren’s, I believe a concerted effort should be made to create representation in non-Canonist cities. People with interest in the faith could then learn, and the faithful could receive active guidance! By doing this, Canonism would be a faith more easily converted to by all people, and thus, move all of the people in Vailor closer to the righteous path.

Zeal may blind many to the fact that in each living person, lays the potential to server in the name of God, but we must not allow ourselves to be ignorant to this potential, and instead do our best to promote it! Our faith is one whose material possessions come from charity, and sees such bounty that we may share it with the poor and disadvantaged. I am almost certain that we could extend this as a gift too, to our Elven brothers, the stubbornest of Dwarves and most bloodthirsty Orc. We must NOT keep from them the hand of God, but instead, make his open hand something that cannot be ignored.

By showing them the bounty offered by God, and the hospitality that we offer to one another, we would be likely to secure many a man and woman who would choose to thrive in the love and care of God, spreading that same love and care to those in their lives! It is only through these means will the faith they accept gain longevity.

To assist this, and ensure a lasting effect, it would be wise to raise more bishops in our ranks, and perhaps have another diocese created in order to raise more men and women to this cause! Let us better represent the church to the people abroad and at home!

This work is God’s work, and as such, we must ensure the longevity through the security of those doing it, by repurposing the aforementioned zealous lads as a guard force for these preachers and missionaries. We must let no one act against the faithful, this being doubly true for anyone trying to spread His word. We must expand the church to expand the laity, and defend both with an ardent passion.

Let us never withhold our charity from the laity, as they are what the church exists to serve.

"Make this man a Deacon!" Oscar of Norfolk is heard to say for a few hours after reading the thesis.

"This feels super hyper aggressive to me." Sarrion would chuckle, walking off.

Sixtus sends a response.

I am at most whole-hearted agreement with this essay, a powerful representation of the truth. I have based much of my Pontificate upon the yearning to spread the Lord's Good Word, and would very much wish to continue spreading that Book, to spread it far and wide. This is why I have ordered the creation of the Order of Saint Daniel, a missionary one at that, to make more efficient our Clergy and its ability to convert those who would shy away from the Lord's graces.

I shall deliver this essay to the Abbot Radovid, to make well known to him that the peoples call out for further progress in our Holy Mission.
