A Response Is Due...

Artimec sat in the tavern with a drink in hand and a parchment on the table, writing into it as he enjoyed the peace and solitude he had found for himself in the dimly lit building. A runner had come in and shown him the petition.

He simply let out a small frown. He was used to being unpopular, and hated. So in all honesty it caught him by suprise. However, as he trails his thumb down the hateful words he blinks as he reads a certain portion.

"Wait...I was reinstated? Odd that this whole thing came out before I was even told.."

With that, he unfurls a new blank parchment and begins the tedious process of preparing a response to each grievance.

------------------------------------

"To those of you who hate me, which I assume is quite an amount of people. This likely won't change your opinion of me. Though if you plan to despise me, you can have the decency to at least not do it on the basis of lies and half-truths."

I - Ignoring the legislative process of Laureh’lin in order to pass the first magic restriction laws. A 2/3rds vote must be completed in order for such laws to be passed. On the event of these laws not passing, the Legislator ignored the process.

Not to my knowledge. For a law to be passed the Legislator must simply draft it and obtain the Governor's approval. Admittedly it was a disrespect to the Praetor to not show him the laws first, but he did know of my general intentions, and I do not believe I broke any governmental laws.

II - Ignoring the Sirame Hierarchy. The legislator has deeply ingrained himself within the Order of Sirame, and on numerous occasions has been reprimanded for this. The Legislator’s station is not one for command of the Sirame.

The legislator's duty is to act as an interim judge and dole out proper sentencing and punishment to those who break the law. By 'commanding the Sirame', I have been instructing them towards criminals and ordering the punishments to be carried out. I am within my rights and duties to order punishments, which can be veto'd by the Praetor if necessary in any case.

On the field, battle formations, and general disciplines such as promotions, punishment WITHIN the Sirame, and recruitment, authority goes to the El'Chirr and above, and of course the Praetor. That of which I have not violated.

III - Abuse of position to spread his own culture. Recent new laws have been put in place to enforce the Legislator’s own personal views rather than to foster Laureh’lin’s wellbeing. Such an example being an attempt to restrict magic teaching within the Sirame, blatantly targetting one such case.

My attempt to restrict teaching of magic within the Sirame was infact signed and approved by the Praetor. I've no wish to throw him under the wagon though, it was my idea to restrict it. I do have my reasons for this but anything said towards this matter is subjective.

Many Sirame and the citizenry believe in the old way, and there is nothing illegal in me trying to spread the culture. No one is forced to follow the Aspect's teachings, and no one has been punished for choosing not to. If anything it is abusive of you to prevent the cultural re-birth of a sub-race because it disagrees with your views.

These events are exemplified by the steady drop in Laureh’lin population, with many citizens leaving to more free locations. The abuse of his position has been of direct detriment to Laureh’lin.

Also subjective, as I have, in fact, not noticed a drop in Laureh'lins population. I have several new arrivals request for housing every day in fact. Given lack of any census information we can dismiss this claim as baseless.

I - Attacks of Civilians. As reported by one Cheza Stirling, and verified by Katari Stirling, this legislator had attempted, in her words, to ‘force himself on her’, which was repelled only when violence was used in retaliation, in the form of biting.

I would never force myself on Cheza, and never have. We have infact been quite close as of late, after that incident and I believe that even Cheza herself has made a clarification on the matter!

You may ask her yourself if you wish to hear her testimony in person. I cannot divulge more details and context about the kiss and the bite without this text becoming wholly inappropriate, so I shall move on.

II - Attacks on Orenian Personnel. In one documented case, a state incident was nearly created when this legislator assaulted and nearly killed a member of the Order of Saint Amyas.

Attacks? Taking one situation and then implying it happens more times on a baseless claim is only emphasizing a lie.

Regarding the Amyas member. Dorian Hunter was reported by several witnesses to have tricked an elf to ingest a golden apple, wiping her memory. By doing this, he aimed to have her forget her fiance in order for him to bed down with her herself.

I had ordered him restrained then escorted out the city and would have left it at that, though he resisted and the Sirame were forced to knock him unconscious. We then moved him outside of the city walls.

My fault was in failing to present proof when questioned on the matter. However, writing this as if I made a mindless, lethal attempt at an Orenian's life with no motive what-so-ever is both a severe twisting of words and a half-truth to the point of lies. At no point was Dorian 'nearly killed'.

I will report on this situation further if the victim of Dorian's accused crime agrees to speak publicly.

On numerous occasions in the past, this legislator has been punished for past crimes against the Mali’ame people. Let it not be said he was unaware of his wrongs.

To my knowledge I was punished twice. The first being a situation with my ex-Wife Ash'ya. A rather personal matter, although I will allow Ash'ya to explain that situation if she so wishes.

The second of course was the lashings regarding the Dorian Hunter matter. I can't say I feel the punishment was fair but I do understand why it was doled out. My own fault being in that I failed to produce proof of my claim and my witnesses were not present at the time. It is understandable that given the circumstances, the decision was made the way it was.

Well lliran, I can't say I am clinging to my position, and will take it in stride whether or not I get desposed. But before you decide you hate me you ought to at least read both sides of a matter, and now the truth it out there.

Current/Former(?) Legislator, Artimec Camoryn

"I'm not getting involved." Ash says simply.

"Consider it a parting gift to the Mali'ame."

A small response begins, written in the once high chancellor's tall script.

"To the people for whom I've fought and labored for. For whom I've spent the past thirty years devoted to, abandoning a quiet and contented life elsewhere. I saved this nation from your mistakes, starting back from that first treaty from the Mali'aheral.

Against Embermoore and against Haelun'or I fought at your side, Camoryn. You were a good man in those days. An inspiration, even. I had high hopes, back then, for the future of our people.

But you are nothing without an enemy to fight, this much I can see now. When Embermoore fell, and Haelun'or changed, it was but a matter of time before you found a new enemy within our own walls.

You've taken to a new set of ideals for no reason more than to blame your failings on those without it. To demonize those who risked their lives by your side for this nation purely for the sake of your own sense of righteousness.

With Orenian war threatening to involve us, and my wife growing with child, I leave to take my family to a place where they shall be safe. And in doing so, I play my final hand in the name of my beloved nation.

You are a disease on this land, Artimec. With each passing day I see one less face on our emerald island and one more in those lands outside. With each week I see another law in your name made only to spite those with whom you disagree.

Continue your course, if you so would. I will not be around to stop you. I've more important things in my life now than the work of healing a nation that rushes headlong into failure as though it were a child chasing his sweets."

"In all honesty, if it wasn't for Artimec, we'd have not seen this progress. He's done more for us than any elf, aside from Tristin. If I remember correctly, the only thing Aelu has done for us in the recent years is delved to some ruins, grave robbed, and invoked the wrath of our ancient brethren upon us. Huh." Aenor says, idly sipping some tea as he enjoys his leave of absence.

"As far as I've seen, back when I was but a member of the Ivory Guard, he was an inspiration. He is still an inspiration, just slightly...less so. There are a few faults in him now but he means well for the wood elves (namely the hair dye ordeal), I would not describe him so much of a pestilence as a father, who means well but fails in doing so ever so slightly. He has made several advances that have made our city a better place, and I respect him for so." Meleranion takes a glance at his old Ivory Guard uniform that he kept with him, remembering the first day he entered the old city of Cerulin.

A small passage is written somewhere in the vicinity of the Wood Elfy conundrum. How your squirrely hands got hold of it is a mystery, but written upon it are the words of Aetahir, the old High Elf.

The Wood Elven reforms remind me of the early days of Haelun'or, when those who denied the Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya slowly drifted away. In their place remained a solid core--the seeds of the fruit, which in turn bloomed into a beauteous tree. The path the Wood Elves follow is not an easy one, and will be beset with danger, great hardship, and even times of dreaded immorality that betrays its creators. But they will themselves bloom in turn, should their seeds be protected and nurtured. The path they walk is their own, but it intersects with older ones well-trodden.

As vain as it may seem, I hope one day our peoples may see one-another on their paths, for it is a winding road that can be perilous for the lone traveller. Worry not for the flakes who abscond to distant shores. For they wanted not a nation, but a tavern.

Sentis sets his quill aside, smiling thoughtfully as he thinks of his people.

"I do miss the sight of the walls of Cerulin. I should make a point of visiting, might even be able to pick up some more information on the Mali'Ame contributions to the Orenian war effort."

Sentis grins, taking a sip of wine as he turns his focus once again to the parchments that litter his desk.

A scarred Elf wrapped in a tattered green greatcoat reads the poster.  He grimaces.

"Good luck, old friend," he grumbles into his collar, and rubs the truncated end of his left ear.  "You weren't the smartest of us, but for damned persistence. . . "

He sighs, and steps away on to the road.

Nirnuin received a bird about the news "He didn't realise who the real threat was in the revolution. The racist ******* got what he deserved..." before heading towards Laureh'lin in search of a life away from Oren.
