Biography  (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add server lore, and events that happened to your character so that they don’t contradict history.): Botan was born an only child in Salvus to a mild, middle-class family in which he lived a relatively mundane life, where throughout his childhood his parents wanted him to be a successful accountant, following in his father's footsteps. They hired private tutors to teach him advanced mathematics and, after he expressed interest, worldly sciences as well. Although he wasn't particularly interested in numbers at the time, he showed willingness to learn for the sake of keeping his parents happy. He found it difficult to fit in with the snobbish upper class, so he spent most of his time with his less fortunate friends. He was quiet, but not unfriendly or anti-social, so he didn't have a hard time getting along with others as a kid. Although at the age of 15, he began to decline, showing less initiative, less willingness to learn, lost friends from his neglect and took poor care of himself and his appearance. His parents couldn't understand what was happening to him. After they confronted him, he told them what he had been feeling, -- loneliness, self-doubt, a fear of the future, to which his father responded, "We've given you everything you could ask for, what could you possibly have to be so sad about? You're just lazy." That same night, Botan was sick, upset, filled with loathing toward his parents and himself. He wanted to forget. From that day forward he had a crippling opium addiction that he wouldn't break for years.

Fast forward to the day he turned 17, he decided he had enough with his life in Salvus, feeling claustrophobic and sick of the monotonous hum of noise. To his parents' great disappointment, he took a purse full of dosh he had saved and packed the bare essentials before walking out of his former home for the last time. He moved into the wilderness where he built a cabin and lived alone for several years, only returning to the city once every month to restock any supplies he couldn't sustain himself, which included literature to pass the time. He still felt incomplete, like maybe the city wasn't his problem. He sold his cabin and set out again, this time without the intention of settling down. Along the road he came across a couple of ragtag adventurers, an Elf named Toley and a Human, Kurtis. They told Botan about their story, refugees now looking for a purpose in life, to which Botan could relate. He asked the two if he could join them. They were reluctant about letting an inexperienced city boy join them, but after hearing his story, they couldn't help but sympathy and let him along.

Botan and Kurtis became close. Despite Kurtis being a rugged explorer with little education, he had a lot of wisdom to share. Like teaching a child how to walk, Kurtis taught Botan to compartmentalize his depression and overcome his addiction. After spending three years with Kurtis, Botan had finally discovered who he is and wished to finally settle down for good. Botan proposed to Kurtis, to which he declined. He wasn't heartbroken by the rejection, after all, Kurtis told him that he would be happy to marry him one day, but he wasn't ready, and hadn't fully discovered himself yet.

Botan returned to salvus and pursued a career of science, study and research. Over time his studies transitioned to the sciences of magic. He, along with the few others who cared about studying and preserving magical devices and artifacts rather than exploiting them for their powers continued to do so until the research and objects of power had all disappeared overnight. He was outraged, but there was little that could be done about getting those things back. Frustrated with the massive wasted effort and lost years, he quit his job, and is now searching for a new role in life. Hopefully one that could help people on a more personal level.

Personality Traits: Botan doesn't talk much more than he has to, but he's friendly and eager to dispense advice and help others. He seeks the company of others more than he admits, preferring to be around friends or at least friendly people.

Ambitions: He doesn't have any ambitions in particular, he's just searching for a purpose.

Strengths/Talents: Scholarly, clever, often charismatic.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: Not very strong, a bit cocky, dependent on others.

Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight): Botan is a little bit small. Average build, leaning toward the skinny side, and slightly shorter than most others. Pale skin, and dark circles around his eyes. He wears extravagant robes representing the league of researchers he used to work for.
