In light of recent controversy, regarding the conflicts between secular (State) knights and religious (Church) knights over Gentry-Rights. After lengthy discussion, the following edict is instituted in both the Pontifical States and the Imperial State. Let known to the realm of God, of Horen that:

  1. Knights of the State are the sworn blades of the Holy Orenian Empire, as well as its Knightly Estate (the Order of the Red Dragon), in this their vows are granted by the Emperor’s authority.

  2. Knights of the Church are protectors of the Faith, sworn to serve God and his Church, in this their vows and rights are granted by the Vicar of God’s authority.

  3. The practice, originating in ancient tradition, known as Damehood is revised and defined in both the Pontifical and Imperial States.

    1. To achieve the status of gentry in either the Church or State, one must be male.

    2. A Dame is defined as an exceptional warrior of the female gender, however this is an honorary title only reserved for the rarest of occasions and grants no rights above the individual’s class

  4. Knights of the Church will require a writ from the Imperial Estate in order to perform their knightly duties within the borders of the State.

  5. Knights of the State will require a writ from the Clerical Estate in order to perform their knightly duties within the borders of the Pontifical States.

  8. Any Knight of the State that claims the rights of a Church Knight, as well as enacting his knightly duties within the Pontifical States, shall be put under trial of the Church if not expressed consent from the Clerical Estate.

  9. Likewise, any Knight of the Church that claims the rights of a State Knight, as well as enacting his knightly duties within the Imperial State, shall be put under trial of the State if not expressed consent from the Imperial Estate.
