Bloodline Braduks

The Braduk clan is open to Orcs of any ancestry, but it is distinct from all but a few other clans in that it spawned a highly distinctive lineage of Orc kind. But unlike the skin-deep differences blue-green Laks and red Raguks, the dark swampy green skinned Braduks are towering thickset brutes.

This post is intended to give an incentive of why you might want play a character as a descendant of the ancient Braduks if you’re thinking of making a new Orc.

N.B. The term ‘bloodline Braduk’ is purely of my own invention to illustrate the distinction between those of familial descent from Braduk and Braduk clansfolk who are not descended from Braduk himself but are nonetheless considered part of the extended clan family (the current Wargoth, my character Lukra’Braduk, being an example of this). The term ‘Braduk descendant’ could also be used.

Basic Summary:

  • ·         Biggest Orcs in the world, standing at least a foot taller than other Orcs, with 8ft-9ft being a comfortable average with 10ft and above being well known to happen.
  • ·         Deep and rich lore. The Braduks have had a hard time of history but have never totally succumbed to oblivion. To be a Braduk is to have the blood of brutal and legendary champions and survivors in your veins.
  • ·         Elligibility for higher Braduk clan leadership. Unless in times of hardship, the Braduk Warlord must be of Braduk’s bloodline.
  • ·         You’re almost guaranteed a big ass rhino buddy with swords for horns.

Lore and History:

Bloodline Braduks are, in short, the phenotype of the Orc species that developed in the city state of Kenuk during the Clash of Clans War in Aegis – the great cataclysm that drove the Orcs into their current state of technological regression in ceaseless waves of savage and unending destruction. The genes of Kenuk’s founding family proved dominant and inter-breeding with other Orcish refugees from the senseless carnage consuming most of the Orc lands produced a high number of very large and dark skinned Orcs. Following Kenuk’s founder Braduk’s death his children and most loyal followers created the Braduk clan, with most of Kenuk’s population joining soon after.

More on the storied history of the Braduks can be found in links on here (thread outdated, but much information still valid): https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/128780-the-braduk-clan/

Centuries later, following many catastrophes that resulted in great loss of life, those with Braduk blood will almost all be descended from Braduk himself. Their numbers are now in dozens rather than the hundreds or thousands in the distant past, but even that few are reasonably scattered, with many living autonomously from the Braduk clan. Numerous times in Braduk history, after a seemingly fatal defeat, surviving Braduks have either left to seek a solitary hunter gatherer existence with their bonded rhino or joined another clan. A notable example of this would be the relatively high number of those with Braduk ancestry in the Yar clan – the shaman Thurak’Yar was born a Braduk, to parents considered as revered ancestors by modern Braduk clansfolk.

Physiology & Inheritance

While there is a reasonable amount of variation amongst Braduk’s descendants, a combination of many of the following is usually a good indication of Braduk blood:

  • ·         Dark Swampy Green Skin – Some variation here but invariably darker skinned that most green Orcs.
  • ·         Large Physical Stature – Generally ranging between 8ft to 10ft tall, with heavyweight, imposing frames.
  • ·         High Birth Weight – Braduk blooded cubs are usually quite large when born, leading to a higher chance of difficult births for Braduk fe-orcs and more so for Orc women who aren’t Braduk descendants themselves.
  • ·         Larger Tusks – The tusks of Braduks are, in general, larger and grow earlier.
  • ·         Blue Eyes – A far less reliable method of identification, but many Braduks have blue eyes of various shades.

The Braduk genes have proven to be dominant in the inheritance of a child, with clan knowledge generally holding the following to be true about whether a cub will show the hallmark traits of a Braduk:

  • ·         If both parents are of Braduk blood the resulting cub will invariably show prominent Braduk features.
  • ·         If only the father has Braduk blood there is a significant chance of the cub showing prominent Braduk features, but there’s also a chance of a cub showing more of a mix between Braduk features and standard Orcish features.
  • ·         If only the mother has Braduk blood the chance of the cub showing Braduk features is reduced compared to if it’s father was a Braduk. There is a greater chance of mixing between the mother and father’s distinctive features.

Braduk Rhinos

The Braduk rhinos are the semi-sentient companions and mounts of the Braduk clan. Intelligent, strong and loyal, a Braduk rhino is a formidable opponent but a staunch friend and ally. A clan member is bonded to a rhino at a young age, or a short time after they join the clan for anyone not born into the clan.  This bond is for life, with the Braduk treating their rhino as if they were their own kin. While many roam in wild herds and a sparse few are owned by bloodline Braduks, the vast majority are under the watch of the main centralised Braduk clan.

Physiologically they can be quite varied. There are rhinos who are purely walls of armoured muscle, massive lumbering beasts; on the other end of the scale there can be those who are only slightly larger than a thickset warhorse, capable of far greater feats of agility and speed than one might expect of such a rhino. There are others who fall between these extremes, a mix of strength and agility. Invariably, their horns are long and sword-sharp.

If your character is an adult who was born into the clan proper, you’ll already have one. If not, then the choosing ceremony can be done open returning to the clan.

Lore thread:

So you want to play a bloodline Braduk then?

There are number of origins your character could take, including:

  • ·         Being the cub of a wandering Braduk and returning to experience life in the Uzg and the clan. The perfect choice for a newcomer to the Orcs as a race or anyone wanting to work their way into Braduk customs organically. Your character could literally be of cub age or an adult.
  • ·         Being born into the clan, leaving to wander, and now returning. This would be preferred if you want to start your character off as an adult and dive straight into clan RP with minimal handholding.
  • ·         Being born into the clan as a lil baby kubbie. Currently not a huuuge possibility as there’s only one active bloodline Braduk at the moment, but if he has cubs they’ll be open to be played.

Almost all bloodline Braduks will be loyal to the idea of the Braduk clan and their kinship to it. This is due to an attitude of intense family loyalty and clan cohesion drilled into a Braduk cub since birth. Unless they joined another clan in a time when the Braduk clan simply was not in existence as a political entity (e.g. the exodus of former Braduks to the Yar clan) they would be unlikely to seek out another clan to join when returning from a period of time away from the Uzg. This is somewhat relaxed for a bloodline Braduk not born into the clan or raised by a Braduk parent.

Conclusion

In all honesty, this is shilling for the Braduk clan. Active member numbers are pretty low but while that hasn’t been an issue in the past there’s only one active clan member who is a true blooded Braduk. It’s a shame to see this side of the Braduk lore die out a little due to OOC reasons (players inactive or left the server), since IC there are still a good number of dark skinned giant Braduks around. A number of Kahn’Braduk’s children from his first mate are still alive, some of them never played, and lore posts in the past few months and years have mentioned roving Braduks living outside the Uzg in solitary existences. Your character could be one of them returning, or perhaps one of their cubs. But even if you don’t want to play a Braduk clan member, while not ideal, that’s fine as there are a number of clans with some amount of Braduk interbreeding – the Yars and Ugluks (currently disbanded) for example.

In short, even if this does nothing to boost Braduk activity I’ll be happy if people considering making a new Orc in the future would consider bringing a wandering dark green giant out of the desert to say Ug.

And if you're serious about joining the Orcs as a Braduk blooded Orc, please drop me a PM or post here. I can help you round the lore details and basic character creation.

Oblivion, you play a Braduk? Thought it was like, Australian only. Huh, the more you know!

Nope, our previous membership was predominantly AUS but sadly most of them either left on their own accord or due to unavoidable IRL issues. Now Braduk membership is mostly GMT.

So, they reach the height of an Olog?

Olog height would be around the extreme of the Braduk height range but yes. Some of the older lore on the linked thread mentions outlandish heights of 14ft but I've decided to retcon that since it's just garishly absurd. For now 8ft-9ft will be the average height range, with 10ft being a known outlier.

They are all considered big anyway, Braduks tend to bring in the largest massed Orcs. Though, Gorkils would be considered the warrior clan Braduks could still fight just as well as any other Orc
