The Taint of Nakazu

SxCug62nK-tjzd7f6lUQ4YQmDawY4QJWOKTaBohY

It was a particularly active day in Laurelin, what with the Sirame beginning to assemble for a small training session with their allies. The Silan'Sul, and a deal of the civilians began to arrive, either curious as to the commotion of clanging blades and clanking metal, or coming to witness their combat. Either way, many people were assembled around the lower level gate when the ground began to decay, the grass, moss, and lichens withering, and the taint of Orgon beginning to spread from a point in the ground. The withering eventually reached the river and, as the wary and terrified men and civilians watched, it began to run dry, the fish within beginning to rot and decay, and the stench of death and tainted land pervading the atmosphere. Then, the rains began - the acidic material would begin to fall from the sky, graying the heads and ear-tips of many elves due to the vile nature of the material, even dissolving through cloth and getting at the flesh beneath, as well as tendrils of tainted plant matter rising from the earth.

Everyone quickly filed into the Gatehouse, for there, all believed shelter could be found from the monstrous and tainted elements. The Sirame began to order bows, oil, pitch - anything flammable - be found, as a dark and tainted tree began to grow, with small red sacs spewing a green, vile, pus-like gas. Someone had loosed a stone golem upon the tree, bearing axes in either hand with the aim to chop it down, but it was ripped to pieces by the tendrils before it reached the main body of the tree. Some of the pus would spray in the direction of the upper wall, where the Sirame were beginning to scrounge up flammable items and bows. The gas was inhaled by a cadre of men, as well as the king himself, Tristin Tresery, who were from then on incapacitated. Lost and leaderless, the group began to have horrid hallucinations - all the men, women, children, and people they have ever known, rotting, decaying, and dead or dying upon the floor. Meanwhile, the battle between monstrous tree and man raged on, as the pitch, oil, and flammables were found. Eventually, archers began to ready arrows, which were lit aflame by the haft, and fired upon the tree. Various mages were given permission to perform their magics - a collection of fire evocation practitioners and the Silan'Sul- and combined their strengths into setting the tree aflame. Men began to descend from the walls and safety of the gatehouse, and grapple with the tendrils to get to the tree itself, while the volleys of flaming arrows and various bottles and trinkets of flammable material were tossed at the tree and set aflame, burning the tendrils, the tree, and clearing some of the noxious fumes emitted from it. A group of men steeled their way towards the city, going around the tree by the wall during the confusion, and then returned bearing sticks of flame, which they held via leather straps scrounged from the barracks. Using these sticks of flame, known commonly as Blaze Rods, the men began to distribute them and redouble their assault on the tree.

After a long and deadly grapple with the tendrils, the men armed with the blaze rods had reached the roots and base of the tree and were assaulting it by shoving their rods of flame into the base of the tree, or stabbing them into the nearby pus-sacs, which caused them to shrivel and die, and therefore ceasing the release of the maddening fumes. The tree, the living form of Nakazu, with it's core utterly burnt to a crisp and even still burning, would then begin to collapse as it lost support. Those nearby assaulting it had been thrown from the base, and the tree itself began to shrivel and die, and the withering rains to cease. The crowd took up a resounding cry of the wood elves - "AME AME AME!" - and it was shouted all across the courtyard before the gate as the physical form of Nazaku disappeared. And amongst the crowd, a single man was chosen.

Enthir would sit on a wall simply watching the tree and the Sirame battling it. He sighs. "It took them that long to figure out to use blaze rods?" He says to himself. ((please don't respond with rp. Enthir is alone and no one could hear him))

Later on, not so far into the future, a certain young elfess heard of the event. Her brows shot up, and she practically knocked over the chair which she had been seated in. "I'm sorry, llir... Laureh'lin, correct?"

She smoothed her hair, collecting her coat and walking stick. Upon her companions worried, shaken response, she would nod, her face growing blank and pale as she adjusted the bandage wrapped around her left hand and arm.

"Yes... Laureh'lin..."
