Unnecessary. The wall itself would still make it a lot harder to get through, reducing the traffic at least by a fair bit.

That's great and all, but Mexico accepts US aid and needs the US to buy its exports. Threatening to stop the aid and increase tariffs would make them pay up pretty quick. And if not, well you could just use the aid money and tariff money to help fund the wall.

to cover what, a 2000km border? thats 20 agents a km, with constant pay, and constant watch. then you'd have to pay for border housing, water, food, etc. to all reach them

The best way to stop illegal immigrant is help the places get their **** together- Does America have an issue with Canadians illegally coming from the North? No, because we've got our **** together. Helping Mexico and the South American countries is the best way to effectively fix this.

this not only traps people inside america who would usually leave, but think about the wall itself- investing in a huge wall like the great wall of china, or some kind of massive and lengthy fence DMZ zone like the area between N.Korea and S.Korea?

Maybe it'd help Mexico if the cartels were downsized. Maybe lowering the amount of drugs and weapons that get into US by building the wall would decrease their profits some. They could find ways around the wall of course, but that'd be much more costly.
