Should the Elven curse affect both males and females?

65 members have voted

  1. 1. Should the Elven curse of inability to have children once every 10-15 years only affect women, or both?

    • It should affect both
      44
    • Only Females

From a biological disposition, it makes much more sense for this to primarily affect women. As it is just as hard to conceive in the real world as it is for this fantasy scenario. There are time frames when women can be impregnated while men can impregnate a woman no matter the time.

From my standpoint it doesn't make sense for it to be men affected to the extent females should. Like, their bodies aren't the ones that create the baby, it's the females. I can see it as men perhaps having faulty or weakened sperm and getting that tiny chance that it manages to fertilize. Where as with females, it's a matter of their whole reproductive system needs to be in sync which, from a real life standpoint, can also take years.

this would make sense except the curse isn't really biological; or rather, if Iblees was only able to curse females elves but not male ones then he's kinda **** lmfao. his other curses affect both men and women so if we're going to stick with this lame iblees curse lore then THE CURSE should affect both genders equally. ovulation cycles and whatnot aren't part of the curse so yea that can fug it up but that isn't curse related then. if you're going to have a hard set rule; the hard set rule has to affect both genders equally because then what you're REALLY doing is making lore rules on ovulation cycles which means you need to set limits for all other female characters too since they also have ovulation cycles. just have a max number of kids per lifetime instead of number of babies per set of years and that's a better way to 'regulate' the curse (which isnt actually regulated now lol)

It is a curse that affects physiology regardless of its magical origin-- this is the same for all the races. Orcs and dwarves get their own physical compulsions (much like the effect addictions have on the body). However, elves are unique in that their curse affects something directly related to the physiology of their sexes. You can't simply just say "magic", we have to hold ourselves to the same standard we do for our other magics in detailing their effects.

In order to rationalize the idea of "infertility", do I need to bring everyone to Elven Sex Ed? I can break out the diagrams and charts if you all want. Maybe even get the druids to make me something I can demonstrate putting a sheepskin condom on.

I think we can agree LadyRebecca made it clear: the males have impotent sperm and the females have problems biologically producing the babies that often, most likely because of their eggs.

For the laymen or others who don't want to read:

Men: Sometimes your sauce just isn't boss.

Females: Don't get knocked down if you can't get knocked up.

It's the Elven curse, not the female curse. It effects both sexes, has always effected both sexes, and will always effect both sexes. Stop making threads about this every few months it's getting irritating after three years.

Pretty sure there is no lore that stops elves from having more than 5 children, it'll just take a long long time to do it.

The lack of fertility in females still stands as a curse in itself. If a male Elf is able to make children during the 15 year gap and their wife isn't, what are they going to do? Go off and plough some human, and then make a halfbreed with two curses? That's not a benefit that males have over females at all.

The fact is the curse isn't being role-played so the argument of whether it should affect the male or female more is irrelevant.

What should this curse actually be doing?

-> Male sperm count is super low

-> Female egg count is super low

-> Ability to conceive is therefore super low

-> The ability to bring the pregnancy to term should also be SUPER LOW!

The last part is the part that no one seems to care about. It doesn't matter if you get pregnant since an elven pregnancy should almost always end in miscarriage, still-born or other complications, including lethality for the female.Currently people are rolling to "get lucky" and once they get the roll they want they skip to the part where they have five children.

Idk about anyone else but I have roleplayed an easy 200 character years of failed attempts. In those 200+ years my character and his waifu only managed to produce two children, enough to replace them basically and now both are nearing the end of their reproductive cycle. No family should be more fertile than another and if you have large elven families you need to take responsibility for your lackluster roleplay and stop producing more children against lore. : ]

People understandably do not want to roleplay dead babies.
