411 w/ Vaquxine: 1.8 Lag

Hey guys, there's been a lot of confusion and craziness recently with the update of 1.8 and I want to make a post to explain what it's all about.

Q: "The website is SOOO LAGGY!" or "The website is down!"

A: We recently transferred our website and forums to a brand new shiny node that should be able to handle the amounts of traffic we've been receiving. If it's not loading for you, your DNS may have not yet resolved to our new IP.

Q: "LAG" or "LAGGLGGLGLG" or "OFMG ITS LAGGGING" "GUYS ITS LAGIGNIGNDFSIGNSIFDSFIJASFIAJ"

A: 1.8 brought with it a few terrible CPU poisons.

1.) EXP Orbs cause as much lag per orb as a mob. We can't disable them because they're not a "mob drop" they're a separate event entirely that bukkit has not yet created an API hook for. As such we've had to globally disable PvP as players would drop hundreds and hundreds of orbs every-time they died due to another player which lagged the entire server.

2.) Death Messages; we can't disable them currently do to the fact that no hooks have been added for them yet in the bukkit API, we fully plan to remove them as soon as possible.

3.) The "Wandering Souls" aren't causing the lag; we've established that increased amounts of players do not make the server lag any more or less.

Q: You guys should make X vanilla feature do Y instead of Z.

A: We will once a recommended build of bukkit is available with the needed API.

Q: WHY U NO READ MY APP FASTER?

A: We're overloaded; we do 1 page of applications and there are 3 more made. We'll get around to your application ASAP.

Well, glad this is slowly being worked on. But of course, I would expect this is waiting until the Bukkit people come up with solutions.

1.8 had major lag issues ever since release. LotC devs are not at fault.

Vaq, i think you should talk to some of the devs at BC. They developed a way to disable orbs.

We need to just go back to 1.7.3 I literally cant do anything on this server, cant fight, cant talk, can barely move, I mean if the server cant handle 1.8 than don't use it, I would rather be able to play the game and have less features than stare at my screen while my sword breaks on a zombie but doesn't do any damage...

I would prefer to go to 1.7.3 aswell, it seems as if LoTC wasn't ready for 1.8. Although we updated late, we updated too early. Ever since the update all that's happened is problems, I figure that we wait and stay at 1.7.3 until necessary plugins & mods are completed & compatible for 1.8 so people can actually play the server. Whenever I play I see people literally jumping around, mobs are too laggy, I can't RP or talk to anyone because my chat won't pop up until the next 10-15 seconds. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining just throwing out that staying on 1.7.3 was the smartest thing to do. We tested 1.8 today and yesterday and I think it's time to turn back.

Good going Vaq! I can't stand all those who say 1.8 sucks due to some tiny lag and want to go back to 1.7.3. Be happy the GMs do the work they do and stop whine just cus it lags a small bit. 1.8 is the best patch that happened to MC and the Dev Team are doing what they can. BE HAPPY!

yeah most people just start hating and go on a swearing rampage just because of some lag. but vaq said lets fix it. vaq = awesome
