An Invitation to Single Combat for Gonzalo de Castro

 

For too long the houses Tosali and de Castro have hated each other. Several wars, conflicts, and other events of the like have further increased the aminosity. Though our "rivalry" cannot hope to match others, a fitting end to two conflicts is in front of us. I, Dembres Dune, challenge Gonzalo de Castro to single combat. He is a renowned warrior, a leader in several armed conflicts, and a proven veteran. I am a bastard of a minor family who is unproven in combat, a green lad who hardly has a taste of war. The odds are stacked against me, but the righteous are favoured, and my cause is just. Accepting my challenge proves you are willing to dispatch of those who oppose you, and are brave enough to test you skill with a weapon against another man in single combat. Declining shows your cowardice as only those craven would not take the opportunity to kill a foe of two conflicts, especially when that foe is a bastard of low birth with a ***** for a mother. Make your choice, Gonzalo de Castro.

He reads over this note, tossing it in his fireplace. He pushes the embers around with a poker. He softly speaks, "Dembres, when will you learn." He shakes his head, sitting down in his chair.

"This man claims his family has done naught to mine, yet on several occasions conflicts have erupted because Gonzalo could not hold his temper. The animosity is somewhat petty, but I have numerous examples of when the De Castros wronged us, attempted to have us killed, or conspired against us. Let the true men show themselves in the duel, and let those who refuse the call to noble battle lose the crown of righteousness they do not deserve."
