DUTIES & STRUCTURE

The Imperial Society does NOT exist to teach established forms of knowledge, but rather, advance the bounds of knowledge.  Thus, the Society is not a college or a university and does not accept students or offer professorships.  Chartered by the Imperial Crown, the Society exists to serve as not only a centre of philosophy for the Imperium, but also serve its nobility as trusted advisors and scholars.  In that sense, the Imperial Society is best described as an intellectual guild or research institution.

 

The only ranks given within the Imperial Society is that of Scholarch and Locum.  The Scholarch serves as nothing more than the organizer and public voice for the Society as well as overseer of the regular meetings held by the Society.  The Locum serves as the vice-Scholarch who overtakes Scholarchical duties should the Scholarch be absent.

 

The Society expects all members to be preeducated in any matters considered relevant, and capable of independent study, should they need to learn more.  There exists no “departments” or “sects” dividing the minds of the Society, but rather, a single, body of master scholars which work in tandem to complete singular research ventures efficiently and thoroughly.  Granted, the individual scholars are still encouraged to produce research of their own, on their own time.  Full members are given the honorary title of Doctor.

 

While the Society does not offer organized education to the masses of the Empire, select individuals may be given mentorships should they inquire with the members of the Society.  Granted, this on a per request basis.  Similarly, the Imperial Phrontistery may also hold public lectures and symposiums offering a forum for debate and free thought.

Presently, the Imperial Society is based within the aforementioned Imperial Phrontistery within the Orenian Capital of Adelburg.

MEMBERSHIP

To become a Doctor of the Imperial Society is considered a venerable endeavor.  A brief listing of desired attributes for those wishing to join the Society are listed herein:

 

• Educated on a wide breadth of natural, philosophical and magical knowledge.

• Has relevant preexisting publications or creations as proof of scholastic ability.

• Has made a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural or philosophical knowledge.

• Has appropriate synergy with the rest of the Society.
