The denial for this application is ridiculous. Aregorm would clearly fit in on the server, yet is being denied for the most petty reasons.

My biography when I applied for the server had my parents killed by orcs. So did most people. Once I was on the server I never mentioned my parents ever again, it was just a useful method for explaining why I was alone on the server as a new player.

And then Quavinir_Twiceborn gets even worse as he criticises Aregorm's application based on the numeracy of where he spent his time. He says in his application he ran away and spent 5 years in the wilderness before returning to the city. Can Aregorm really not be allowed on the server because Quavinir can't understand the difference between 5 years + 2 months and 4 years + 10 months? Seriously?

We can also see that he is 14 and from UTC+1 timezone, so I doubt English is his first language. That makes his application more impressive and he will obviously get better the more chances he gets.

Just one glance at this thread and I see all these 'directors' and 'managers'. How has something like this slipped through the net? Why aren't the management pulling up its team members for this kind of poor performance? This is just one application I have looked at, there could be so many more.

LOTC is suffering because of its very draconian application system. As I write this there are 30 people online, in the middle of a Sunday. It's no surprise that no one wants to stay on the server when their first encounter is almost always a negative one, trying to please a stuffy nit-picking application team member filling up his quota to try and further his internet career.

As a previous AT member, i kinda know what the AT go through. @Fyrste. Your comment about ridiculous denials has some merit. I was told I was too harsh and complained about a lot, mainly cause of my few denials. Most AT do pending first (as I did) however plagerism is how many denials should be. As a member, if I had to deny, I placed ways to fix the application as well as why they were denied. I implore members to not be so harsh towards AT. They could do up to 100 applications a month, and 90% of the accepted are ignored by the community and the 10% denial are focused on. But this is just my two cents.

How to make the AT better.

I have had friends get on the server, and tell me its too chaotic to figure out where to start. This is not just an AT issue as not all AT have the ability to help new players get to places or introduce them to players. @Rella101 was exceptionally good with this. She made sure new players got to where they needed to and introduced them, in roleplay. We need AT to try and implement this more.

A thing that needs to be worked on is AT need to focus on their pendings more than taking another application. One AT should not have more than 3-5 pending applications. If the applicants clearly need help, message them in private and offer them either the guides Rella or I wrote. I am sure there are other guides that are useful such as race. It doesnt hurt to ask them in private about their character. Joining a server should not feel like a quiz.

Applicants should not be required to know lore. I read absolutely no lore coming to this server back in 2013. Then again we had QRQs back then so I can't say the application is too big. However, for questions about rules, I feel that applicants should know 3 important questions. What is metagaming, what is powergaming, and what is cybering. Yes that third question is a must as I have seen brand new players get it confused and end up banned.

Honestly, the OOC part of the application is great, tbh. The RP part should just have basic character information. They shouldnt be required to be "adult age" for their race. I remember when you HAD to be 50 to join as an elf. Unsure if its changed or not but 18 should be where they can join. Bio should just be personality. Honestly a character doesnt always need a backstory, roleplaying can help new players create a backstory that fits not only server but also the player.

I feel, personally as a lore maker, AT needs to be knowledgeable of creatures, towns, and races. This lore can make or break applications. The reason I say this is I have seen lore breaking applications make it through the AT and not even blinked at. It is a bit unsettling to see my own lore broken and it remain so even in RP. That is my personal thoughts but that is up to AT.

Lastly, AT needs to not be so standoffish to talk to. There are some members I would not like looking over my friends apps due to how they treat current players and older players. When I was first removed, it was because I was toxic myself. I caused drama and issues. However, with AT members I have come to know, I do not feel they should be in their position or they are too unapproachable. One who has been an AT for as long as I had known them, is one I feel fits this. They are unapproachable both as a new player and as a old player. Approachablility and friendliness is, I feel, a major key to making the AT its best form.

Just wanted to let you all know that your feedback has definitely been received and will be used when restructuring certain processes of the Application Team. I value everyone's input.

Hmm, I am fine with the team, but maybe make the App harder, there has been a lot of mata and powergaming going on.

Moved to The Great Library. It shall be sorted into the appropriate category shortly.

If you feel this is a mistake, please contact myself or any FM and we'll restore it.
