“You’ve finally arrived.”

The voice struck him. Where did he arrive? Memories faltered him. But the person’s figure didn’t. An old love. An old known.sEH2D8F5QejYrWN-hYIqB7JxMSj4Dx-zhH3ptZ-TI-5oHAzYDkCwlWaof0HYo7RcoxeMvHuSS5tEur6s26BVQkmUX012PZU1Sz2HeH_CMSCvHFD-5C0MBwSOOYooXBXIJgBtQqs3

Unlike many, all he wanted was peace. To his soul, to his mind, to his body. Peace, he strived to achieve. Inside that small, flora-filled room. It wall went past in a glimpse. A spear, a staff right through him.

“By myself?” he thought, but he knew the answer.

Unlike many, all he wanted to see was his loved ones. His old, lost husband. His children. It was all he wished for. It tortured him. It gnawed on his very being.

Unlike many, all the ‘ker wanted was friends. Was love. Was joy. It filled him in the same way a child was when receiving a parent’s love.

“I missed you, Nei…” The figure mumbled, its shadowed form cast with brightly glowing white eyes, staring right back at the ‘ker’s pinkish eyes

“Is… this it? Is.. this where you have been waiting?” he asked, starting to pace outwards to the figure.

He wasn’t lost. He wasn’t cast away. He felt home. He felt appealed by those he had around. The figure of his maln, his haelun, his husband, lost to the downfall of Axios…

It all struck back to him, though.

His return to the lair of the mali, the Dominion. Joining the Virarim, conquering new relationships. But, there isn’t a single man who comes out of it all pure. Untouched.

Like many, he succumbed to the temptations of desire. Of greed. Of lust.

Like many, he succumbed to trustfulness and turned a blind eye to what people seeked ill to him. He turned a blind eye to the problems that surrounded him.

He was fine, in his own bubble, in his own personal life. He hid it. He was broken. He felt as if nothing could fix him. His bubble popped. His problems came to reality, flaring him and searing onto his being. A greed, a crave for something he could not even think of.

Though, he knew, it is all coming to an end. At some point. We all die, let it be of age, of disaster, of love.

“Stay with me, Nei…”

“I never leaved you..”

Pain… but no more.

Quillian had bolted into the grove as soon as she caught wind of the news, something within her knew her friend had gone.. Her beloved brother and pack mate. Though she refused to believe it, this was some sort of sick joke. Forged and rumored by those whom wished to see her fall, to watch the elfess suffer.

But no.

All of it soon was brushed into the light, members of her circle gathered around the lifeless corpse of her beloved friend, their solemn eyes weeping tears of sorrow. But not the Azalea, it was only anger that possessed her. Rippled like angry tides of a sea claiming the shoreline. Bubbling away beneath the confines in which most named flesh, it was evident however. The elfess' eyes burnt a deep crimson hue, the flora around her screamed in akin to the druidess' pain. Though she departed as quick as she arrived, perhaps even faster. Finding herself present at the foot of the shrine of her aspects, looking to them with a broken visage. Thousands of questions plagued her mind.

Why me?

Why take Toren from me and now Nei?

Though as much as she hated to scald herself, this was the balance. The cycle in evident show - but she hated it, with every ounce of her being. She despised the harsh truth.

"Nei how could you do this to us? To me? It was mere hours ago you were telling me that I needed to rely upon those whom surrounded themselves around me, you included. Yet you leave me. Alone to fend off my uncontrollable rage, to hurt moreso than I do upon my fiancé's passing. You are an idiot Nei, but my idiot. You were so much like a brother to me and meant so much to so many. You depart for now, but so help me when It is my time to come to the eternal forest. I'm going to beat you black and blue" The elfess spoke in a bittersweet tone, though the tears never ceased.

Her lover was gone, and now so was her brother...

Skylar followed the crowd of Druids who carried Nei's body. His sobs, tears, whimpers, all of it, were not contained. He was broken. He looked at the corpse but quickly looked away. As Nei was buried, he remembered everything.

The day they met, he remembered crying on Nei's shoulder, he remembered having what he thought was a friend. At the time, Skylar didn't know Nei would become the most loved person in his life.

He remembered Nei saving his best friend, and much more. Risking his life for Skylar's happiness.

Why Nei?

Why did the Dark Being choose him?

It is unfair.

Skylar blocked out the voices of the people burying Nei's body, his own thoughts flooded his mind. Guilt. Despair. Love.

A part of him was relieved. Now because of his death, he had control over himself. The curse didn't control him anymore. He was free. Skylar knew that Nei was happy, he knew that Nei was different, different than the person the curse turned him into.

Skylar looked up at the sky, praying that Nei was paying attention to him.

"I love you, Nei.."

It would be hard for Skylar to move on, as he lost his husband. However inside he knew it was a joyous event, a freedom. He would celebrate after he mourned.

"He was a good soldier. I will miss him." muses Leatherback to the bones in his grove. "Life is too short for some, too long for others. There is no balance."
