Regarding the Dangers of the Recent Aspectist Support Act

10th of Snow’s Maiden, 1658

The recent act, known as the “Aspectist Support Act,” is the prelude to a great danger for our fair nation. For many years the government and upper echelons of our own Aspectist Naelurir have worked in tandem to create a more culturally acceptable environment for our Wood Elven citizens in the form of district laws. This Act, however, is a departure in that it does not simply strengthen the cultural environment of the Wood Elves alone. Instead, it establishes all non-Aspectists as second-class citizens, including the followers of our other domestic religion, Dark Elven Shamanism. Indeed, this act is not limited to the forested district of the city; it is written to apply to anyone living in any district of Caras Eldar or on any vassalized land. Furthermore, it requires that ten percent of all taxes and other money collected by the Stewardry is surrendered to the local Aspectist Circles. These are not the terms of an Act that wishes to merely strengthen the cultural environment of the Wood Elves; it is an act that subverts the government and eventually may question the sovereignty of the Dominion.

What this Act brings is entirely different from what has been seen in the past. While district laws have been passed and have successfully strengthened the cultures of our peoples, there has never been a law or act that served a single culture’s interest on a Dominion-wide scale. That is the true problem that this Act brings. If it was made to merely apply in the forest district, then I would not be writing this essay right now. The sixth article’s contents also bring dangerous implications, in that its mere adoption suggests that the Druidic Circles have a right to the treasury of the Dominion and the capability to enforce such. This, in and of itself, is a direct threat to the sovereignty of our nation. Why should the Druidic Circles have any more right to the taxes and funds of the Dominion than anyone else? In addition, if they have a right to the heart of the government, the taxes, what else do they have the right to?

Judging by the reactions that the beneficiaries of this Act have shown, however, I am inclined to believe that this is the doing of a small group. Additionally, it could be that this Act was written with nothing but innocence and perhaps some naivety at heart, but the fact remains that it brings some dangerous concepts and should be modified or removed. Simply removing the sixth article and minimizing the effects of its contents to the forest district would be an acceptable change, but I believe with its inferences in mind it should be removed entirely. I can only hope that it was passed with the innocence I mentioned earlier, and it was not the product of some scheme or push for power.

I wish you all the very best,

Your Former Servant, Kalina Artanis

For those of you reading this who have not seen the act, here is a simplified outline of its six articles:

I. Aspectists are not required to pay every fourth cycle of taxes.

II. Individual Aspectists are given the privilege of requesting up to 1,000 minas in the form of a grant coming from the Dominion’s treasury every 3 Elven months.

III. Aspectists receive a 50% discount on state ran stalls during festivals.

IV. During war or other conflict, Aspectists may request food from the treasury to be given out as a form of charity work.

V. Aspectists who purchase businesses will receive two weeks of no taxes to allow their business to grow.

VI. 10% of all taxes and money gained by the Stewardry will be donated to the local Druidic Circles.

"Atleast Canonists just kill heathens instead of oppressing them, it's much more humane." remarks Alifer.

Keir would stand there for a moment trying to understand Alifer's words before finally speaking "So. . . in your eyes its much more human to kill heathens even though according to the canonist religion they'll just burn for eternity? Maybe I'm too daft but that doesn't sound humane at all. Why can't we all quit acting like school yard children and accept one another."

"Great idea, let's all just sit by the camp fire and sing while holding hands. Or better yet, let's toss you in the bonfire.. I think that'd be a lot more fun." Alifer would state, albeit blankly.

"I honestly do not know how they did not see this coming, even the guard say that the Dominion is for wood elves, but I do have to wonder what further course of action will be taken by non-aspectist" Zatanaes said while managing the bar.
