I. Reshuffling of the Ashen Council

The Ashen Council has once again needed to be reorganized as a variety of its members have fallen ill or been struck with too many responsibilities as their clans have expanded in size. The following list will detail those who occupy the positions upon the Ashen Council, servants and council to the Earl himself. The duties, privileges and expectations of those upon the council have been detailed in a prior decree and will not be expanded upon here. The pay of those upon the Ashen Council shall be set at Thirty Marks per harvest cycle.

Chancellor of the Ashen Council : Torsten Eiriksson Rosik

Marshal of the Ashen Council : To be Determined

Purser of the Ashen Council : William Panem of Nordengrad

Keeper of the Ashen Council : Rae Arden

Steward : Alexander Leydon Arden

Lord Purifier : Magnus Ironwood

II. Establishing the Cadet Clan of Rosik

The ranks of the Rurikid have grown massively vast over the three centuries of our existence. And though our entirety still maintain the blood of the Herald within our veins it has become feasible to maintain all the Rurikid under the single banner of Rurics. Thus those descended from Olaf, son of Eirik shall take up the name of Rosik. A great clan of their own right with the right to bear unique heraldry, to levy oathmen to the fyrd, and to declare feud against those that would slight them. The Rosiks will, from amongst their number choose a chieftain who shall sit on the Chieftain’s council and maintain a vote on the ratifying of Nordengradic laws and a vote proper at Great Moots should one be declared. It is worth noting that the clan of Rosik maintains the blood of the Herald through the male paternage and is therefore eligible to serve as candidates in the Great Moot.

III. Establishing the Cadet Clan of Rorik

As prefaced above the Rurikid have grown to an unteneable size. None moreso than the blood of Eirik himself, reknowned for his fondness for barmaids and drunken promiscuities amongst the many snug houses of the old Empire. As a result his issue were as numerous as rabbits in an unguarded garden. In this light those descending from Hakon, son of Eirik shall assume the name of Rorik.  A great clan of their own right with the right to bear unique heraldry, to levy oathmen to the fyrd, and to declare feud against those that would slight them. The Roriks will, from amongst their number choose a chieftain who shall sit on the Chieftain’s council and maintain a vote on the ratifying of Nordengradic laws and a vote proper at Great Moots should one be declared. It is worth noting that the clan of Rosik maintains the blood of the Herald through the male paternage and is therefore eligible to serve as candidates in the Great Moot.

IV. Establishing the Arden Hearth

In the interest of maintaining piety amongst our vassals we in chorus with the most Holy Patriarch of the High Hearth have deemed it necessary to have each holdfast within our demesne hold a Holy Hearth and subsequently a Keeper. Thus we do establish the Arden Hearth within the Ardenhall and do humbly request that the Patriarch himself do ignite this hearth with his own holy Flamebrand. The Fireline of this Hearth shall be as follows.

First Flame : Landing Hearth : Thoromir’s Flamebrand : North Hearth : Edvard’s Flamebrand : First Seahelm Hearth : Eirik’s Flamebrand : Nyrhold Hearth : Sven’s Flamebrand : Second Seahelm Hearth : Thomas’s Flamebrand : Bonefort Hearth : Artyom’s Flamebrand : Krag Hearth : Arthas’s Flamebrand : Nordengrad Hearth : Rae’s Flamebrand : Arden Hearth :

V. Establishing the Mourn Hearth

As prefaced above each Holdfast of our demesne shall contain a Holy Hearth and a Keeper to tend to it. We do request that the Patriarch ignite the Mourn Hearth as well to properly honour the loyal fidelity of the Mournstones to our clan and to the realm at large. Let the light of the All Father warm the Holdfast, and the souls of those who dwell in its depths. The Fireline of the Mourn Hearth shall be as follows.

First Flame : Landing Hearth : Thoromir’s Flamebrand : North Hearth : Edvard’s Flamebrand : First Seahelm Hearth : Eirik’s Flamebrand : Nyrhold Hearth : Sven’s Flamebrand : Second Seahelm Hearth : Thomas’s Flamebrand : Bonefort Hearth : Artyom’s Flamebrand : Krag Hearth : Arthas’s Flamebrand : Nordengrad Hearth : Rae’s Flamebrand : Mourn Hearth :

VI. Establishing the New Krag Hearth

As above, the Krag shall retain a Hearth as to ensure the piety of its liege and to warm the souls of all who dwell within, as they serve as the grand shield of our humble realm. Once more we do request that the Patriarch and his retinue do conduct the holy ceremony of ignition upon the Hearth of this grand bastion. The Fireline of the New Krag Hearth shall be as follows.

First Flame : Landing Hearth : Thoromir’s Flamebrand : North Hearth : Edvard’s Flamebrand : First Seahelm Hearth : Eirik’s Flamebrand : Nyrhold Hearth : Sven’s Flamebrand : Second Seahelm Hearth : Thomas’s Flamebrand : Bonefort Hearth : Artyom’s Flamebrand : Krag Hearth : Arthas’s Flamebrand : Nordengrad Hearth : Rae’s Flamebrand : New Krag Hearth :

VII. Manning the Holdfast of New Krag

We have deigned to have one Jorvik Eiriksson Rorik serve as the Lord Commander of the New Krag bastion. He shall populate its walls with his own levy and see to its upkeep and garisonning for as long as he shall live or until he is removed. Should his service and administrations be to our satisfaction then he shall be granted the Fortress as his own holdfast proper.

VIII. The Canonist Temple at Nordengrad

Pending negotiations with the Canonist leadership the now vacant Ardenhall shall remain reserved for use as a Canonist Temple. The practice and proselytizing of Canonism being, according to our Charter restricted to within its confines. The terms of the temple are yet to be determined but the plot shall remain reserved until they are reserved or until the Earl proper deems otherwise.

IX. The Banishment of Baltasar Guillen

Baltasar of Clan Guillen is permanently barred from the Northemarch for the crimes of Oath Breaking, deceit with the intent to bring persecution upon Fatherists, Blasphemy against the All Father and for his base character. Claiming to be a Fatherist and attempting to reform our theology and faith as a layman while simultaneously professing to be a Neophyte. Our repugnance at his existence cannot be expressed words and we do hope the Canonist Priests of the South will hold faith with us and render the appropriate judgement upon his person.

X. The Official Genealogy of the Rurikid

Those not present on this record must make themselves known to the High Chieftain of the Rurikid or they will be forevermore held as Ashes in the eyes of all Rurikid. This record shall serve to dictate and track who is a genuine blooded descendant of the Herald and who is a false claimant seeking power. Only those descended PATRILINEALLY may claim Ruric status. Those descended MATRILINEALLY are not Rurics but Ashes and do not carry the Heralds blood. As such they are not entitled to serve as candidates in a Great Moot. Furthermore those descended PATRILINEALLY who are titled Ashes are DISOWNED from the Rurikid. They do not retain the right to serve as candidates in a Great Moot nor may they vote. Their shame is too great to retain claims of kinship with us.

XI. The Dissolution of the Eiriksson Clan

Both present branches of the Eirikssons have opted to reform themselves as Cadet Clans of the Rurics proper. The other branches of the Eirikssons are lost and have not made themselves present to claim the Chieftainship of the Eiriksson clan. Thus until such an occurrence takes place the clan of Eiriksson shall be dissolved in the eyes of Nordengrad, the Faith and the Rurikid. Thus, the Eiriksson clan no longer has the right to bear unique heraldry, to levy oathmen to the fyrd independent of another clan, nor to have a chieftain sitting upon the Chieftain’s Council who may ratify laws of the realm or vote in Great Moots. We do commend this clan to rest, its history one of glory and valour for the name of Ruric.

XII. The High Chieftain of the Eirikssons

Whilst the Eiriksson clan proper has ceased to be extant the sons of Eirik still roam and remain quite vigorous in going about the affairs of living. Thus, acknowledging the breadth of Eirikssons progeny we have deemed it fit to confer the title of High Chieftain of the Eirikssons as the Chieftainship of the Eirikssons has been nullified. The High Chieftain of the Eirikssons shall remain a subservient title to the High Chieftain of the Rurikid. Both titles being symbolic in nature rather than authoritative in any measure. The High Chieftainship of the Eirikssons shall be granted to the largest and most powerful of the cadet houses that have emerged from the Eiriksson bloodline. This title shall be conferred upon a new owner by the bearer of the High Chieftainship of the Rurikid upon the expiration of the previous holder of the title. The High Chieftainship is not an inheritable title but one that is appointed to a chieftain of Eirikssonos

XIII. Thannic Privileges in the Earldom

With the rise of a plethora of Thanes of late and the increasing influence of said Thanes we have deemed it proper to outline the privileges such a rank does grant to its bearer. The foremost amongst these privileges shall be a full exemption from taxes for the breadth of the Thane’s life. The Thane may also bear unique heraldry, declare feud, serve as a judge over legal conflicts between freemen of lower rank and a right to a trial before the earl in any legal conflict. The Thane may not, unless holding a greater title retain ownership of a holdfast or levy oathmen to the fyrd. Thanes must dwell within the holdfast of a Chieftain or within one of the Freemen’s residences in a greater Holdfast.

XIV. Acknowledging the Union of Fiscere and Rosik

With the marriage, bonding and subsequent bedding between Chieftain Torsten Eiriksson Rosik and Chieftain Carina Fiscere Rosik we do acknowledge the union of these two clans in alliance. As such these two clans may now levy the oathmen of the other clan to matters of inter-clan feud should they deem such necessary. It is worth noting that the issue of Carina Fiscere Rosik shall be held as Rosiks and not as Fiscere, and thus will not be eligible for the Chiefsmoot of Fiscere upon her expiration or resignation of said title.

XV. Acknowledging the Union of Fiscere and Grimlee

With the marriage, bonding and subsequent bedding between Thane Kenswey Fiscere and Gretchyn Grimlee we do acknowledge the union of these two clans in alliance. As such these two clans may now levy the oathmen of the other clan to matters of inter-clan feud should they deem such necessary.

XVI. The Small Council Election

It does please us to announce the resolution of the Nordengradic Small Council Election. We do declare Baron Xalid Arden as the victor of the Mayoral race, thus he shall bear the title of Lord Mayor of Nordengrad for a period of two harvest cycles. (Elections first week of November). It is worth noting that Xalid won and ran for election prior to his ascension to Baron with the recent Illness of Kjartan. We do declare Kanna Yandere as Lord Sheriff of Nordengrad for a period of two harvest cycles (Elections first week of November). And do trust that they shall represent our interests and those of our subjects to the utmost of their ability

XVII. The Baron of Ardenhall

With the severe illness of Kjartan Arden, he has seen fit to resign his titles to focus on recovering from this prolongued debilitating illness that has forced him to keep to his bed. In this light the sons of Arden have held a moot to elect a new chieftain. From that debacle emerged one Xalid Arden, who shall henceforth bear the the Chieftainhood of the Ardens. As a result the linked title of Baron of Ardenhall is conferred upon him. Thus he shall be styled Baron of Ardenhall and is charged, in the same vein as his predecessor with the maintenance of Nordengradic law, defence of Fatherist Faith and governance of the subjects who therein dwell. We do pray that he shall do so within the blessed gaze of the All Father.

XVIII. The Unification of Arden and Errmark

Having been approached by the Chieftains of Errmark and of Arden to declare their intent to unify their two clans into a unified body as to maximize the interests of their blooded and their Oathmen we have seen fit to acknowledge and grant this request. Thus the clans of Arden and Errmark are unified under the banner of Arden and shall be held as such until the end of days. All blooded Errmarks shall be now seen as blooded Ardens and will retain the right to serve as candidates for Arden Chiefmoots. The current chieftain of the Ardens shall serve to govern the unified clans.

XIX. The Thannic Eneofment of Kenswey Fiscere

We have seen it fit to grant our loyal subject Kenswey Fiscere the honourable status of Thane of Nordengrad. This reward being given in exchange for Kenswey’s valiant defence of one Robin Volaren, wherein the aforementioned placed himself in grave mortal danger to single handedly repel two assassins who had been in the process of extinguishing the flame of one Robin Volaren. For this we do thank him and bid him to walk in the holy gazee of the All Father. May he serve our realm with honour and piety as the first thane of Nordengrad and of the Fiscere.

XX. The Thannic Eneofment of Ryon Errmark

We have seen it fit to grant our loyal subject Ryon Errmark the honourable status of Thane of Nordengrad.  Because of his long and loyal service to the realm proper and finally due to displaying exemplary faith and self sacrifice in requesting the unification of the Errmarks with the Ardens. Prioritizing the peoples of Nordengrad and of his own clan over his own status and titles. A sentiment we wish to see reflected amongst more of our subjects. Thus we do bid him to walk in the holy gaze of the All Father as he executes our will. Defending the secular and sacred interests of the realm with his exemplary sword skill.

XXI. The Nordengradic Academy Act

All residents of Nordengrad and her subsidiary holdfasts who are under the age of majority (16)  are obligated to attend the Nordengradic academy. All children of our realm shall attend the academy for two of the sessions held per harvest cycle. Children will be instructed in matters of letters, basic harvest numeracy, history of the Nordish peoples, basic beliefs and scriptures of our faith. They shall also be taught, some husbandry and basic arms work. Learning primarily the spear and the shield. Children of Noble and Gentric origins shall be given additional lessons in faith, law, horsemanship, arithmetic, history, healingcraft and the use of nobler arms and armours. These lessons shall be steaded to by Goodwoman Verona of Fiscere, Goodwoman Illynora Sylvaeri and Master Magnus. Each tending to their respective matters of expertise. Sessions will take place as follows and shall be organized at the discretion of the Headmistress Verona.

The latter days of Astridsday (Wednesday 9pm Est / 6pm PST)

The middling days of Svensday (Friday 8pm Est / 5pm PST / 11am Aest)

The middling days of Myrosday (Sunday 8pm EST / 5pm PST / 11am Aest)

XXII. Outlawing the Tradition of Barmaiding

In the storied history of the Nordish peoples Nordish men have made a habit of forgoing bondage to a single woman and taking many women to bed. Subsequently resulting in the siring of many sons on a variety of women. At the time this practice was ideal for the production of many sons with which to defend the borders of our ancients realms. However as we move forward we feel that this practice will only be conducive to a heightened level of degeneracy amongst our subjects coupled with an increased likelihood of feuding between the clans. Thus the practice which has come to be known as ‘Barmaiding’ ie the siring of sons on unmarried women and taking them as legitimate issue is outlawed. All children born from an unmarried union will henceforth be defined as bastards and shall bear the surname of ‘Ash’. They will not be held as the blooded of a clan unless granted special concessions from the Earl. Though they may be held as Oathed Freemen to a clan.

XXIII. The Anointing of the Heir

Having reached the age of childhood and survived his infancy the heir of Nordengrad is now acknowledged as a child of the All Father and a son of Thoromir Edvardsson Ruric II. Thus we have had him anointed into the light of the All Father, with the most blessed Patriarch Rae Raden deigning to perform the service for us. The child was anointed with Thoromir I as his patron to represent him on behalf of the All Father. As the child is anointed and reborn into the Father’s light as a child of the Father proper he has shed his infant name and assumed his true name. Donovan Edvardsson Ruric, second of his name after the ancient king of old that ensured the ancient fortress of the Krag would never fall.

Somewhere in the south, an Ascended woman read over the decree as she usually did all other documents regarding humanity. Her breath caught in her throat as she reached the part about genealogy.

“How dare they...to mark my children with a bastard name, the children of a King and legitimate in every way. I’ve lost them both to age, while I have stayed behind to help preserve this world...this is an insult to their lives.”

The Princess would toss the decree back to her maid, “Burn that wretched thing. I should never want to set eyes on it again...or GOD help them.”

From beyond the grave Elle would wonder why her paragon, Astrid, was listed as her son’s mother. Were she alive she would have already begun her plot to burn down to the canonist’s church and desecrate whatever hearth was formed, as the new leaders of the faith had turned their backs on too many of her beloved paragons, including the one she chose herself to follow. As the former purifier was deceased, no cig would be lit, no grand Red Faith scheme in Astrid’s altar would be planned, and no burned buildings would be found in the early morning mist.

Her spirit felt ill in the rest it endured since her untimely passing, in the knowledge of the changes that occurred to the faith she’d once followed so devoutly.

Frissah would pretend to read over the decree and nod her head before resuming her cleaning of the floors.

Kanna Yaander would let out a sigh as her name had still yet to be written correctly.
