The Elder Eye

- Within the Cloud Temple and Dominion, a poster has been placed upon the boards. -

- The writing is simplistic, as is the inquiry therein. -

”What is the worst you have ever done?

Do you remember?”

How could I forget” a rough old dwarf mumbled beneath his breath as he passed by the poster.

Esther Lester sees the poster, and then laughs at it with an amused guffaw. She then reaches out to touch it, and finds that it’s real, and not some practical joke.

“Oh. Hm, do I?” She walks off, pondering her past, and how she got where she is now.

A golem reads this, not understanding the question. Then proceeds to marche off.

Hiro saw the poster and stood still

“I've done so many evil things and I keep doing them, even if I have a few years of life left… and I cannot forget ...”

Hiro chuckled and then with a sad face started to walk away

”I'm delirious ... now I start to talk with the posters too!”

Hiro walked away from the poster, still thinking what she did and what she would do.

“I grew a tree’s root into someone’s mouth and out his arsehole once then let crows pick at his impaled body for a week once.” Artimec said dryly.

“Wait, the poster said worst thing I’ve ever done, not funniest.”

The dainty High Elf strode by, and upon reading the question, spoke aloud “The worst thing I’ve ever done? Sought the location of a left-handed screwdriver, I think” they .. confessed? “I’m certain that the worst is yet to come,” they said, placing two fingers to their lips to set an indirect kiss upon the poster.

“I burned a house down and pissed on the couple’s wedding bed,” says an Elven man to himself and himself only to comedic effect. “They killed my wife so I wanted revenge. In hindsight, I don’t think that’s the worst thing I’ve ever done.”

A weary, albeit young elf paused to contemplate. His brows furrowed to an almost mean creasing on his forehead. Perhaps it had been the one elf he hunted down into the woods decades ago? Or perhaps something he had forgotten between then and now. At the least, he would realize from this, he lived with less guilt than others.

Elsewhere, an exhausted woman took to star-gazing, to distract herself. Some nights she might steal hours of starlight with her beloved. Others, she would rest here alone, as she had done for half a century now. The dew which clung to the grass or the occasional rainfall, here, so close to the Wonk Woods clung to her face in place of tears. Far too resigned to let them dry, she lay beneath the open sky. Minutes of reflection, stretched into uncomfortable hours, into more trying days.

It might be considered a fasting in her line of work, viewed easily as a vocation. In essence it was that, but it was also a punishment, demanded not of her Lord, nor even her Order or by law of any people. It was more an unspoken demand, which if not for what little family she had and the love of her fiancé, she might one day give into. There was no forgiveness for what had been done by her hands, and so in essence she was her own jailer.

Do not ever settle too long beneath a roof. Give food and water, even if you are hungrier, thirstier. Repent, even if it is not demanded.

“I was responsible for that Fallen Aengul crisis in Axios,” she whispered to the grass, wet with its dew. To the stars. To the empty air around her. Sometimes in the halls of the nearest settlement, cobbling its walls, her beloved safe inside or asleep. “Those people will neither forget it, nor forgive it. Nor should I.”

Fifty years, was it now? Perhaps she would have to wait five hundred. Maybe then the grief might age her, at least.
