6th of Tobias’s Bounty, 1708

Lord, Ladies and citizens of the Dual Monarchy of Hanseti-Ruska,

This kingdom in which we live and die holds a special place among the realms of the Descendants, for it alone possesses all the virtues that the LORD doth hold dearly to his chosen people.  It is my greatest honour to reign not only as your King, but to be a man of Haense, beholden to this great kingdom as much as any among you. In this current age of prosperity, we must take a moment and think with pride (but not with arrogance) on the feat which GOD above has allowed us to perform in His Name on Arcas.  But it is not in the nature of us men of the Highlands to rest on our laurels. We must and will come together united and press onward, for the sake of our sons and daughters who will look back on us and remember our deeds, good or ill.

But to be a man of Haenseti-Ruska is to already know the value of unity, laid down by the very foundation of our dual crown.  Through blood and heroism we have been taken from many lesser peoples and forged through the iron will of our united spirit into one People, led by one King.  Though enemies may encroach on our borders and may threaten our sovereignty, they do not understand the nature of those whom they seek to do harm, for it was through steel that our will was forged, and so too has it been tested since time immemorial.

In light of our national will, guided by the GOD of the Seven Skies and the most august and venerable authority of our Emperor, we proclaim this directive to assert the unwavering resolve of our Highlander Spirit and invoke the words that have carried much weight in our mandate to protect the integrity and unity of our denizens.

It is not just a strong will and sense of unity that the LORD saw fit to grant to the Highlander people, but an inexorable sense of honour and dignity.  Loyalty, trust, and courage are second nature to our kind, and I am resolute to uphold my duties as King, to not only represent those values in word but to see them brought to life in deed to give example to our values and culture.  We are stout of heart and perpetual in dignity. What we are now is not only the actions of our current generation but the culmination of the honour of our forefathers. To continue to uphold their legacy is the paramount duty of all who would call themselves Haeseni, and to lead us in that great endeavour is mine own.

In the words of the great Haeseni poet of the Petrovic Era, Alistar Wailer, let us ask ourselves:

--

What truly is Sacrifice?

Is it a personal burden each man must carry?

Perhaps tis’ permanent or a moment in life that must be given once, or twice, or thrice?

A punishment for our greed, and avarice?

Is it with the grain or contrary?

What truly is Sacrifice?

A response to every human vice?

Is there only one thing to give or does it vary?

Perhaps tis’ permanent or a moment in life that must be given once, or twice, or thrice?

Is it esoteric or precise?

The focus of life or ancillary?

What truly is Sacrifice?

Oh creator what is the price?

Simply a way to keep us wary?

Perhaps tis’ permanent or a moment in life that must be given once, or twice, or thrice?

How does one open the doors to paradise?

On this I shall wonder till my body they bury.

What truly is Sacrifice?

Perhaps tis’ permanent or a moment in life that must be given once, or twice, or thrice?

--

Konstantin signs the Haeseni cross, giving an appreciative nod. “Well spoken, coz.”

Sir Rodrik would nod in agreement as he’d watch King Marius II conclude the writting; a smirk on his face as he’d reach the poem adressed on the bottom.
