FEUDALISM VS CENTRALISM

This article describes the views of both the Feudalist and Centralist benches, with sources from both of their bench leaders

Feudalism:

What Is Feudalism?

Feudalism is defined as a system of which nobles hold land within a larger Kingdom in exchange for Military and Financial services.

In Political definition, Feudalism protects the rights and interests of the nobility of the Kingdom. This may include lower taxes or a more noble

organized Government and Military

Views:

From what I could gather from his Lordship Henrik Vanir, the leader of the Opposition, the Feudalist political views are as follows:

  • The Honorable Vassals of the Kingdom of Haensetti-Ruska are to have more Political rights and power within the Government
  • To protect the rights and interest of the common Haensetti citizen
  • To have a less Centralized Government and Legislation

In recent times, the Feudalist bench has been bickering and fighting amongst each other in Duma sessions. His Lordship, Henrik Vanir, wishes to stabilize the current tensions within His Majesty’s Royal Duma and the Feudalist Bench so that further optimal Legislation towards the Feudalist ideals may be passed into law. What are these laws you ask? Lord Vanir states that the Feudalist bench wishes to lower the taxes of the common man, while the taxes of Vassals are unchanged, and to allow vassals to hold personal levies after the war has come to a conclusion. As of this recording, the Feudalist Bench has lost it’s numeral advantage over the Centralist, with more than half of the Duma residing on the Centralist Bench.

Centralism:

What is Centralism?

Centralism is defined as a Government primarily run by the State and it’s respected Head.

This could mean a more state run Government and Military with higher taxes to pay for State projects.

Views:

According to his Excellency, Markus Kortrevich the Lord Palantine of the Kingdom of Haensetti-Ruska, the Centralist political views are as follows:

  • The Educational System of the Kingdom of Haensetti-Ruska should be Centralized
  • His Majesty’s Royal Government should be Centralized
  • His Majesty’s Royal Army, the Brotherhood of Saint Karl, should be fully centralized
  • Centralization forms a more unified Government with a more simple path of authority

The Centralist Bench has been the minority within His Majesty’s Royal Duma but have passed on many bills regarding Education and the Building of Farmhouses. His Excellency, Markus Kortrevich also would like to point out that under a Centralized Government the economy of New Reza has been growing, with new Markets opening. The Centralist’s current goals are to make sure all focuses in Government should be towards the long and harsh war, so that the promised bills and projects may be completed. As of right now, the Centralist has seen a larger number of seats in the Royal Duma, which has been unseen for quite sometime.

My Personal Opinion

I believe that both benches have benefits and consequences that are important to understand. For example, say Feudalist lower taxes for the common man but keep

taxes for themselves the same. This would mean that the common man could have more opportunities within the Kingdom such as opening more shops or buying more

needed materials. However, this also means that the State would have less funds for important projects and bills that are essential to the stability of the Kingdom. Or lets say the Military is made fully Central, in where his Majesty and his Generals are fully in charge of the entire Nations protection. This may mean a larger and more unified Military

but it also means that vassals have less control over their own protection, leading to tension between Generals and Nobles alike. In basic terms, both sides are equally important. I do not think that either side should dominate over the other and I believe both benches should instead work together so that there may be a balance in the Government.

Signed and penned by Ivan Robert of House Kortrevich, ward and page to His Grace and His Excellency Sigmar Joren Baruch, Duke of Valwyck and Lord Speaker of His Majesty’s Royal Duma

“Feudalism be ah failure!” Saya Pervinca Driftwood, quoting a radical Bernardist book read to her as a child. Of course, she’d hardly even know what Feudalism is, let alone why it is or is not a failure. She just thinks the words sound cool when put together in that manner.

"It is because of Feudalism that Deek Driftwood funded his adventures. Besides, Feudalism gives apples." Says a Feudalist man, giving Pervinca a piece of apple to sway the opinion.

Liesl nodded slowly upon being read the article by one of her fellow handmaidens. "This is a fairly basic comparison of the two, but does little to go into the philosophy on why the two exist."

She sipped on her tea, sweetened slightly with honey and cream. "I find that Feudalism more appropriately aligns the divine duty of the commoner to the nobility, and the nobility to the royalty, with the divine duty of the royalty to the nobility, and the nobility to the commoner. Each has a purpose, an obligation, a duty up and down the ladder of status; such duties are not meant to be placed upon another step of the ladder."

She closed her eyes and thought for a moment. "A king cannot and should not be expected to care for every commoner. A baron should know my wants and needs, and can therefore provide. An earl should know the wants and needs of his barons, and can therefore provide. A duke should know the wants and needs of his vassals, and therefore provide. And the king should know the wants and needs of his dukes, and therefore provide. It is simple and elegant in its symmetry."

“If you want the government to serve the will of the people join the feudalist. But, if you want the people to serve the government join the Centralists.” Comments Edward. “Both noble goals, one to help the people the other to help the state.”

”More unified? Perhaps. Larger? Historically Incorrect. Stronger? Historically Incorrect. Give nobles levies in a manner overseen by a cohesive military reform in which all levies function as one body but are not outlawed.” Commented Jan of the moderates, after reading the young Lord’s thoughts.
