A Response to Secretary Godfrey

To Secretary Godfrey Briarwood,

From the time of inheriting the Ducal Throne and by extension the role of Bulwark of the Highlanders, I have found that the following Highlander peoples; the Gorundyr of Vi Stige, the Nordish in Morsgrad, the Ulvegr of the Mournstone Estate, the Ruberni refugees, the Radaghastians and the people of Hodeskallefel, are under constant attack from Imperial aggression. Fueled by only what I can see as acts of greed and spite. There are the cases of Haenseti actively breaking ’The Peace of Novellen’ by attacking and raiding the citizens of Darrowmere, which is a demonstration of their disregard for Article IV of said treaty. The blatant Imperial usage of the Golden Skulls Company to assassinate Curonian delegates, in what seems to have been a plot to further degrade the independence of the Kingdom of Curonia. Intimidating them so far as to have their Senator resign and allow yet another hole in Curonian representation before they were wrongfully dissolved. Curonian dissolution had gone without consultation of its good people, or even in the act of writing your letter which is so filled with vitriol and deliberately false rhetoric.

The claim that I have declared Rubern and Morsgrad to be the Highland Realm is yet another lie. I have only one claim regarding the Highland Realm, which being that the diverse land which geographically encompasses the Highlander cities are the Highland Realm; the capital of which is Morsgrad. The city of Rubern itself does not fall within these claimed lands. If you have an issue with the terms used in Arcas geography, I suggest altering the dictionaries of all races in Arcas before claiming that my lands, and the lands that my kinsmen were born on, had not existed prior to the Rubern War. Both arrogance and ignorance plague your lands. However, I find myself nearing the idea that you and your council knew this, yet hope to use the ignorance of your people to push a warmongering agenda.

I would like to directly quote the next paragraph of falsehoods, clearly recently added to your letter last minute which reads as follows:

”Now you as well attempt to pick apart our empire by acknowledging the Kingdom of Curon as a separate entity, when it is, in fact, part of a greater whole. In delivering these invitations you have further ignored your recognition of the Holy Orenian Empire, and continue to allow egregious acts such as the rise of wanton banditry within Darrowmere once more, a place where you have already allowed our existing enemies to take refuge in.”

To claim the people of Curonia and the Kingdom of Curonia are not separate in their identity is simply incorrect, as most so-called ‘facts’ and ideas proposed in this letter are. If the Kingdom of Curonia was not called the Kingdom of Curonia, then you would be correct, however the Kingdom has maintained its own titles, military and culture. It saddens me to see these unique qualities fade from the world by the strokes of bureaucratic pens. The claim that we allow banditry within Darrowmere to persist is simply untrue. Haenseti raids which have been sporadic for the past three years are a testament to that. If you refer to the threat that Lord Onfroi had made in his recent address then it is best that you understand that it was in response to your aggression towards my people, not mine to yours. I shall not allocate a whole paragraph to the claim I hadn’t engaged with the proper appointed diplomatic ambassadors, as this is simply a lie.

I find the fact that you would willingly engage in hostile behavior, and go as far to claim that my kinsmen and myself are the belligerent factor, extremely offensive. If you and your subjects continue to further your blatant aggressions towards my people, my Realm, and my Duchy. I shall be forced to recognize an escalation of tensions and the violation of ‘The Treaty of Novellen’ on the part of the Holy Orenian Empire. May the All-Father guide you to peace. Laughs at the Imperials old letter, tossing one of the many copies he made in the fire, ”Bullying tactics and such don’t work. We aren’t Curonia you daft fools.”

Jager would look down at the missive, chuckling to himself from behind his porcelain mask. "Well put," he mused, "If it were me, I probably would've just sent a letter saying 'no' and been done with it."

 

He'd toss the missive into the campfire and stare up at the cloth ceiling of his tent. "Then again, that's probably why I'm not a politician."

The pale, white haired mali once more receives news from the south, her archery practice now interrupted. Ira releases a huff as she reads through the news.

 

“Bah, zis is just more of zis payper ztuff vit fancy worts on eet. Though vat zey say about zis Ruberni playce is true, and zis bit about” she runs her ringer over the part reading ‘The claim that we allow banditry within Darrowmere to persist is simply untrue.’”Is also zimply true, as we arent even allowet to rait zem” She then comments to this bit of news, before handing it off to the soldier flanking her and waving him off to share the news with the others. ”Eh, zo much payper vasted, zis is vhy zey just shut say ‘no’”

Hadvar av Mitteland pauses, reading the missive and frowning with concern. He then looks out the window and calls down to his many men rallied in the courtyard, eagerly awaiting the news he wished to propose to them. “They wish to bully us? To scare us? Fear not, men and women of the Marauder Republic, Darrowmere, Morsgrad, and Rubern, if they wish to act in force and numbers then we will cut them down just like we have in the past. These are the very men and women who claimed to want peace, claimed to be victims of the Great War, and now they seek blood and are throwing around power like they have it?” He pauses for a moment, loud cheers and claps could be heard in the clearing. “BRING. IT. ON.” He screams, lifting his broadsword and preparing his battle plans in-case of an Imperial assault on the Highland Realm.
