I've been seeing alot, if not all, Orcs in the RP forum speak, in my opinion, like idiots. It may be their accent, but can't there be a few Orcs that can speak better than broken english?

I'm going to be an Orc myself, and I don't want to talk like I have a half a brain while I'm RPing.

Post your thoughts.

((That was my approach when I first joined lord of the craft. but orc`s focus on strength and war; they have little care for there speach also orcs are the race most different from the others so they may speak a slightly different tongue, most orcs when they talk OOC`ly have good grammar but it`s the way orc`s are))

You can talk however you want. We have orcs that were raised by humans and don't know orcish and only know the way humans speak. There's no law that says you have to speak Orcish (except the one where you aren't allowed to say "hail, king, lord, or sir"). You could talk like a refined Englishman if you really wanted to. But you also have to realize that some orcs will probably make fun of you for talking like a "pretty human." Gragarn thinks English is very flowery and doesn't like to speak it. Orcish is guttural and bold, fitting orcs. He'll speak it if have has to for diplomatic reasons, but I usually throw in some accent even when doing that.

Yahgy da goblin wit a good grip on aumen, dwarfie, and elfsi speak. Yahgy spend much time as merchant in udda lands an he a Goblin so he smarta. Orcses mout be bigga dan Yahgy so day mosta dem make loud noise when talk. ((it says in the lore that Orcs have less grasp on grammer and rightly so, although many speak quite well. It takes some time to learn to rp Orc-Speak and much longer still to learn actual Orc Words. Many of us are still learning so it doesn't sound completely coordinated although a few die-hards are helping the newer rp'ers to learn how to speak Orc. When my character Yahgy is in presense of orcs he tends to try an speak more like them because it's something he wishes to be more like...In other lands my character speaks more like dwarf-human. There no rule how ta speak in Krugmar though, some speak very orcish, some speak like a halfling. It's up to the player to figure out how he want's to speak, we aren't nazis jeez :P))

We're trying to make the experience of playing an orc different from that of a human or any other race. No one is making you speak Orcish, though it is Gorkil law to say "Ug" in place of "hello". Or, when addressing your superiors, say "Throm'ka".

The reason we speak with a strong gutteral accent is probably that we're not used to speaking English. Or we have malformed vocal chords thanks to the corruption. But you can still use the accent and sound intelligent, trust me. When I played with Shadowclan, there were a handful of extremely scholarly orcs who managed to sound extremely smart while using the blah. Think of it not as an accent, but a language. You can sound smart in any language - you just have to present yourself correctly.

In fact, an Orc that speaks in solid blah may even be considered smarter than an Orc who speaks only English. The blah shows he's mastered an ancient Orc only dialect and is thus closer to Krug.

Lex is a perfect example of what I was saying. He speaks with a guttural orc accent and he sounds intelligent.

I think my orc is a nice example of how the orc accent doesn't necessarily make you sound stupid. Because he spent a lot of his life in the wild and with his elfy friend, he doesn't have as much of an accent as most others do. However, he's also the dumbest person ever.
