CONTRACT WITH OREN

12th of Sun’s Smile, 1781

Our fellow Orenians,

As Independent Members of the House of Commons, we propose not just changes to its policies, but more importantly, to strive to create a government that is as prudent as the people it serves.

After over fifteen years of one-party control, this most recent election has offered us the chance to transform the way the Imperial government works. That change would mean the end of a government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public’s money. It shall be the beginning of a government that respects the right to self-governance of its people and shall share the faith of the Orenian people.

With the start of the 18th Imperial Diet, we Independents shall aim to achieve the following goals, aimed at increasing efficiency and trust of the people in their government:

FIRST, to conduct a comprehensive audit of the government for waste, fraud, or abuse;

SECOND, to increase oversight operations to ensure a properly ran government;

THIRD, to clarify the distinction between the Ministry of the Interior and the Municipal government of the City of Helena, returning the power to run the city back to its citizens;

FOURTH, to reduce the size of the bureaucracy to allow for more efficient governance;

FIFTH, to introduce measures to stifle conflicts of interest among ministers;

SIXTH, to strengthen the integrity of elections by enforcing impartiality;

SEVENTH, to close legal loopholes left behind in acts from previous Diets;

EIGHTH, to revitalize the Supreme Court.

With these goals in mind, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with Oren; a promise we make to you today so that your tomorrow might be better.

Signed,

President Lukas Rakoczy, MHC

Sir Lauritz Christiansen, MHC

Sigmar Baruch, MHC

Conrad Barclay, MHC

Osvald Barclay, MHC

Juliyus Kortrevich, MHC

“Wonderful. It is good to see independents sitting in the House of Commons. It allows our democracy to be more representative of the common citizen. I hope they don’t support or attempt to force through conservative and nationalistic legislation.” Vivaca Rutledge said after reading the contract.

Just now, ApplePieKathy said:

“It is good to see more independents elected to the House of Commons. It allows our democracy to be more representative of the common citizen. I hope they don’t support or attempt to force through conservative legislation.” Vivaca Rutledge said after reading the contract.

“Conservatives be damned. As a progressive, I will progressively limit Kharajyr rights until such a time as I can have a cat-skin above my fireplace.” Conrad says to no one in particular,  prompted by nothing in particular except a vague imagining of what his old colleague might have said about this.

Philip Augustus takes a moment to commend the directive and ambition, “Shall all legislators have such passion for their country.” The young Lieutenant turns to a fellow soldier and has a short conversation with them about the issue, before he sees Captain Othaman give him a stink eye.

“No politics.”
