The Snuffing of A Flame

It was a relatively pleasant morning on the 6th of Amber Cold, 1794 when Amthalion decided that he would go visit his trusted friend, Oskar Wick. He had plans to assist him in Oskar’s upcoming court date, and moved with haste to knock on his family’s door. There was no answer, and so Amthalion waited. He knocked again, still no answer.

The man sighed, fearing that his friend had managed to drink himself into a stupor over the recent events concerning the Stafyr case. As such, Amthalion pulled out the key that he was given for the home, creaking the door open. It was then that he saw it.

His friend’s body, laying cold. Oskar’s skin had grown pallid, his lips blue. The once bright eyes filled with the aspirations of youth had grown dark. Amthalion quickly sprang into action, getting down onto his knees, eyes scanning Oskar’s body for any sign of immediate injury. There was none, save for bruising around Oskar’s neck. Amthalion shook his head, placing two fingers upon the man’s neck to feel for a nonexistent pulse.

Grief stricken and weary, Amthalion managed to heft his friend’s body. He ran off, with him, going to quickly run and go inform the exiled Wicks of the loss of one of their own.

Maela Frostfire, the recently agreed upon fiancée of the young Wick, had heard of the news. Tearstricken and overcome with grief, especially so soon after her fathers passing, she had run back home only to climb into her mothers bed. Shaking, she'd be mumbling to herself, heart tearing in two at the thought of losing yet another person she loved, this one having been her future husband-to-be.

Corbin stares at the wall of his confines, terrified of what might have happened to his beloved cousin. He couldn’t help but draw conclusions and worry the same would happen to him. The Wick would not be seen outside for months, surely to run out of food and water soon. If anybody were to look at him or be in his presence they could almost feel the pain and grief he was experiencing.

Fyodor would dip his head at the news and think about the young Wick and how he had so much more life to live. Despite some of Oskar's views Fyodor had grown fond of him. He would think about his past run ins with Oskar and about how full of life he was. Another flame snuffed out too soon. Fyodor would sigh, water coming to his eyes as he thought about the young man's stubbornness and how he would never be able to have that drink with him he promised.
