JoanOfArc 4586 Share Posted June 7, 2021 On the Purity of Scars; or Lack Thereof Written by Tilruir Niënor Nullivari In honor of Medi'ir Kiljarys an Iarwain An artist depiction of the Sillumir army at the Battle of the Stone Bridge, Y25 / 1822. Having resided within the Sillumir since the rise of militarization instituted by both the Sohaer and Medi'ir Kiljarys in the City, I have seen the rise from a local garrison to one that is intervening in conflicts that threaten our City’s purity. As a result, it has prompted a great deal of thought on my part about military matters, specifically a specific topic within my quarters: “Are scars on the person impure?” To a man of war or woman of war, the answer is frequently a resounding no. The reasoning behind it is that it demonstrates battle-hardened experience and scars are clear evidence of a battle. Who could deny any is a warrior when said warrior has scars dotting throughout their body? For almost every mark is like a tally of a battle. However, this is an impure thought that has infiltrated into our society. Some Sillumir believe it is Larihei's way to receive these scars for the reasons stated above, likely as a result of observing the bodies of lessers, specifically those of valah. This, I assure you, is not the case! Now, consider my reasoning. A combat scar is, by definition, impure in the eyes of a Mali'thill. Receiving a scar, while indicating battle experience, also indicates that you allowed yourself to be struck by an opponent. We should never be touched by the tides of war, having ascended past the level of lesser creatures and impure vermin. Our bodies should remain a beautiful and righteous figure that shines brightly upon our radiant hill. But what if we are struck? I hear from the Sillumir reading this essay. Simply put, you have failed your duty as a Sillumir. You should spend more time refining your shield-wielding skills so that it can easily deflect incoming attacks. Or, if you were wiser, you would follow the practice of interventionism and apply the concept in combat by being the offensive opponent rather than the defensive opponent. You should strike seventy times for every attack against your person. You must never relent. Sillumir, I implore you to think about this further. Being a Sillumir means being a bastion of defense against the onslaught of impurity raging at our gates. But how can you be a pillar of purity if you allow yourself to be polluted by these thoughts? So I charge you with this; to train harder and focus on refining your skills so you do not corrupt your body as it was further ascended in the days of yore by the magical marvel of the Golden Pools. Maehr’sae Hilyun’ehya, pure and socialist children of Larihei. Always follow the Dream and the Light shining forth from our Silver City.
King_Kunuk 888 Share Posted June 7, 2021 Maehrir's hand would grace the scares of his violent burns he had received several days prior as he reads the essay. "This.... a hard truth... may the scares of all who suffer soon fade away into naught but memory"

High_On_Math 399 Share Posted June 12, 2021 Hectaris Xatophon would stare blankly at the page as he finished reading. He felt his cold, logical elven mind slipping into a dark abyss. "I am already polluted. What point is there in trying to maintain a façade of purity by pretending to be emotionless? I can't believe I let that disgusting grub of a human rid me of my arm. I can't go on like this! I loath myself... 18 years on this earth and I already look like a monster - could I really live hundreds of years like this?"
