Background and History

The Bishops are a Waldenian family that hails from the Duchy of Reinmar, and often makes their living as Soldiers, Farmers, and members of the Clergy. While many in the Family can be ambitious at times, the family as a whole has lied low in world politics aside from the occasional incident or two. The current head of the family is Henry Bishop, the son of Devan Bishop and the third patriarch of the Family.

 

The Bishop family came from humble beginnings, not birthed from the great lines of Barbanov, Horen, or Carrion. Instead, the line of the Bishop family began with Four brothers whos individual lineages would shape the family's history. Born on the outskirts of New Reza, these four brothers began as mere beggars, scrounging for anything and everything to sustain themselves as they travelled the streets of New Reza. Eventually, they found themselves enlisting within the Brotherhood of Saint Karl, and that is where the Bishop lineage truly started. The Family preached loyalty to Haense and their kin and became a devout Canonist family over time, whilst their first patriarch Devan Bishop grew to admire the Barclay family.

 

Moving forward to the days after the Sedan War and the Bishop's return to Haense, the Family swore loyalty to King Heinrik II of Haense and were allowed to stay within the Kingdom and build a new life for themselves. The Bishop family quickly reaffirmed their old beliefs of staying fiercely loyal to Haense with many of the adult members joining the Haeseni Royal Army (later the reformed BSK). More years would pass still, and eventually the new Patriarch of the family would go on to ask the then-Duke of Reinmar's permission to live within the Duchy in exchange for serving the Barclay family and adopting the Reinmaren culture. The adoption of the Reinmaren culture would be quick throughout the family, and soon the Bishops became fully Reinmaren with no hint of their past lives.

Family Traditions and Morals

When a person is born into the Bishop family, it is highly expected that their parents or other family member will teach them how to fight from an early age as well as taught in the scriptures of Canonism. This is done to prepare young Bishop children to either join the Brotherhood of Saint Karl or the clergy of the realm.

 

Bishop children are also expected to be given an education whether by enrolling them in Haeseni schools or homeschooling. Because of this, most members of the Bishop family are well-knowledgeable in Haeseni history and literature. Because of their overall education and upbringing, it is expected for Bishops to value their Family, Godan, and Haense above all else.

 

Because of both their upbringing as soldiers and their loyalty to Haense, many Bishops have faced down threats that would cause others to turn and run. Devan Bishop and Gandhicus Bishop fought with Haense against the Inferi hordes under their Lord Marshal, Henry Bishop, Petyr Bishop, Luka Bishop, and Apoloniusz Bishop fought against the Rimetrolls when they sought to steal Haense's food supply at Astfield alongside their brothers in arms, and Erwin Bishop faced down the Nachezer hordes alongside his Father and countrymen. This willingness to face any challenge presented to them has given birth to the Family's motto; Forever Standing.
