CRP or Combat Roleplay comes in different forms. The two most widely accepted forms used in Lord of the craft are what we call “Roll Play” and “Honor CRP”.

This post will be focusing on Honor CRP , giving you a brief guide that will hopefully help you out in your journey into the wild world of LotC.

For Roll CRP read up on the combat section of the rules or use the image below as reference:

For those new to the server, I recommend watching the video below to have an idea of the common terms that we’ll be using on this guide along with the basics of combat roleplay and proper examples of things like Power gaming that is useful to have as a comparison to your own RP to avoid any future problems.

Also give the Combat section in the rules a quick read!

Know your character! It’s the core of a solid foundation in roleplay, for the purpose of this guide we'll be using examples that will help you in combat roleplay.

Knowing Your Physical Limitations!

Spoiler

Simply knowing what they CAN and CANNOT physically do!

It's important to know the strengths and weaknesses of your character's race.

For example, Orcs are generally larger and stronger than other Descendants, giving them the edge in most contests of strengths, but like other descendants they can feel pain and get hurt.

Sure there are those of other races that can possibly rival an orcs strength but they're rare and few in-between so don't expect a halfling to beat an orc in an arm-wrestling contest!

Use the link below to go read up on Racial Lore!

HERE

General things average descendants CAN'T do:

Dodge arrows! (I can't wait for matrix 4)

Continuously dodge attacks without tiring out. (I'm talking to you Mr. *Dodges attack)

Number of dodges before exhausting depends on the player but I would personally avoid dodging more than two

times consecutively then giving yourself an emote to catch your breath. (Phew!)

Cast magic without an approved Magic Application (Dingo will execute you in public)

Dodge attacks they can't see. (Just don't)

Injuries!

Spoiler

You don't need to be a doctor to properly act out an injury, in most cases injuries gained from CRP are relatively vague and can be RPd as such, unless your enemy targets a part of your body that has specific reactions to pain (e.g A clean liver strike). In most cases you can RP the injury simply through limping or bleeding out through the untreated wound.

Remember, just because you play a physically strong character does not mean you can ignore your injuries, receiving injuries such as the loss of limbs will greatly inhibit your character's actions.

For example, your character's left arm was completely crippled in combat, assuming that they are running on adrenaline and have yet to collapse in pain; your character cannot use said crippled arm to attack. Doing so would not make sense and be considered power gaming.

In the cases where injuries ARE specific then a quick google search can give you a rough idea of how it will feel. Don't be ashamed to use google when RPing out injuries to give it that touch of realism!

Injuries Matter!

Injuries , no matter how small, stack up. Those small cuts or the few too many times you received a blunt blow should definitely show in your RP, whether visibly showing your character slowing down or having difficulty moving certain injured parts of their body.

Reminder:
If you are uncomfortable with Gore or mutilation RP, you can always ask the other person you are roleplaying with to stop and simply Fade to black (FTB) the interaction. If they refuse, you may contact a mod through /modreq to peacefully settle the dispute.

Equipment in LotC varies from common steel swords and armor to more fantastical items such as unbreakable shields and swords of fire

Knowing the specs and limitations of the items you and your opponents wield forms the core of proper Combat Role Play.

Weapons and Armor!

Spoiler

The weapons you carry will often decide whether you win or lose a fight. Of course, the proper knowledge in using said weapons in a roleplay scenario comes with experience and lots of reading.

How far is your weapon’s reach? How effective is it against certain materials like plate or leather? These all factor in the effectiveness of your emotes.

Many people make the mistake of overestimating the effectiveness of their sword against something like Platemail. Unlike a lot of modern fictional media, a sword is the last thing you want to use against a fully armored opponent , let alone hurt then a sword would have difficulty even denting the armor.

A good video to reference for the basics of combat with and against armored individuals is linked below:

HERE

For items that are more fantastical, reading up on the lore of the material it is made out of or the magic it's enchanted with is a good start, for more complicated items feel free to ask the Story Team about it.

What's important is preparation, know your items well before using them in combat against others to avoid future problems.

Follow the link below to Accepted World Lore and read up!

To learn about items you'll most likely see in CRP, metals/minerals along with alchemy lore should be your go to.

Item presence!

Spoiler

Don't forget about the weight and size of your equipment , each item has individual weight so it would make no sense to carry around five weapons on your body for no reason.
‘But how do I know if I’m carrying too much?’

If you had multiple weapons on you, where would it be? Sheathed on your waist? Strapped to your back? Do you have space? Would it hinder your movements in RP?

How about potions, where would they be? Are they visible? How many can you realistically fit in a container?

Quivers? You can't expect arrows to appear out of nowhere.

All these questions should be considered when bringing items along with you, don't be the guy with sixty swords on their waist!

Emote Count!

Bows:

Bows are a great weapon to have in any encounter, in reality it was such an incredible invention that it stayed as a dominant weapon of war , only eventually being replaced by guns.

In our case we are in a roleplay server where balancing items such as a bow is important hence one requires three (3) emotes of preparation before firing a bow.

This starts with loading the arrow , drawing the bow, and aiming. Only after doing these three separate emotes can you shoot your bow.

In exchange, an arrow that was properly aimed at a target CANNOT be dodged, only on special occasions where the target sees you loading your bow and is well prepared for the shot can it be dodged.

(this is sadly a gray area in the combat rules but as a rule of thumb is if they're distracted they SHOULDN'T be able to dodge an arrow as easily.)

Clarity in your Emotes!

Spoiler

Clarity is important, the more people involved in the RP the more chaotic it gets so make sure you do your best to reduce confusion.

I dont have the credentials to teach you how to properly form sentences but what I CAN teach you is some neat tricks that will help you in your CRP journey.

Capitalization~

You can capitalize certain words to bring focus to them, best used on names so that everyone in the RP knows who you’re referring to in your emote!

For Coal VIPs and above you can Bold out your letters with ^word^
