Drunkenness, a gateway to the void.

And you shall take them carefully, and shall not become a creature of worldly indulgence as the beasts of the earth.”

         -Scroll of Virtue 3:8

As we become more prosperous, as the farmers' harvest becomes ever more bountiful and the smiths forge glows brighter with new innovation. We find ourselves with more and more empty time in the daylight hours, time, increasingly spent indulging in social activities, unfortunately for our eternal soul these activities are often spent in the taverns constantly springing up in our cities and towns; most exist as dens of debauchery which exist for no other purpose than to take advantage of the working-man's mina, rob us of our time for prayer, for good works and our time for virtuous joy.

While the consumption of wines and other drinks is not sinful, in fact it is a gift from GOD that we should thank him for and while it can and should be enjoyed from time to time with a hot meal and in the company of good and faithful friends, for merriment as it is our gift from GOD to do so. It is easily and frequently abused to the point of drunkenness, a state of mind that destroys a man's inhibitions, gives him an unnatural and poorly guided confidence, fills normally meek souls with uncontrollable aggression, drives faithful husbands to an insatiable lust and most devastating of all, it pushes man away from GOD. The state of drunkenness leads man into a primitive and worldly state, where actions are made through bestial desire, not temperance and righteous thought, as told in the Holy Scroll of Virtue.

For these reasons, faithful canonists must be diligent in avoiding situations of drunkenness, for it is a temporary and worldly joy, not worth separation from your loving GOD.

Ioannes Novellen, upon hearing the proclamation from his godfather, Father Paco, that he aims for Ioannes to be ordained, went with his godfather and Father Harold to get completely wasted on whiskey in Du Loc. He partied all night (right after the Olog incident) with Paco as they watched as Harold made the drinks flow and a special type of drink. 'Finally, instant water!' could be heard from the lips of Harold as he started to dump them a thousand glasses of it to drink. It did not make the man any more sober. After 3am came around, Paco brought up the thesises for Ioannes to glean from, seeing this one. Out of drunkenness or intention, the young acolyte forgot about this piece.

The wee Jordan Cardinal Jorenus sat atop a high seat in his quarters - the sight was almost comical, a Halfling dwarfed by the furniture around him - sifting through a veritable mountain of papers. After much stressful searching, he found two pages, a pair of theses, both relating to the ever-popular topic of greed. Though neither presented particularly revolutionary ideas, the writers, both aspiring clergymen, appeared to be competent enough in matters of theology. And thus, the Prelate stamped the first - his approval shown through but a sliver of ink.
