Elegy for Edlynne

Written by Sterling Percy Amador

You were as still and silent as a lake,

But your eyes poured words like great streams.

With prayer in mouth and heart in much ache,

I wished to give aid in your hopes, dreams.

But now the calm of you is lost, it seems,

With god you are, look down on us and smile.

The house is broken without its sunbeams,

Our love for you shall beat, surpass, this trial.

For now, without your being, we’re on an isle,

Cherished for life within our halls and minds.

We pray and weep about the sad exile,

Our love for you will serve as mournful binds.

Alas, I store away my tearful quill,

I hope you hear our tears and feel our will.
