Life and Legacy: The Story of Paragon Hogarth Irongut

Recommended Posts

Hogarth Irongut's life began in the ancient days of Aegis under the guidance of his father Thordon Irongut. His early years saw him joining the Followers of Aerial to combat the Undead, later serving in the guard under Stronghold. Adopting a son named Balin, he formed connections with the Adunian leader when Humans sought refuge in Kal'Urguan. As the ages passed, Hogarth's influence expanded. Famously, he ventured beyond Urguan to join an international peace group but returned to take on the role of Lord/High Diplomat. Other notable feats included saving King Godfrey Horen from an assassination attempt and actively participating in Dwarven wars.

His political journey continued into Anthos, where he solidified the bond between the Warhawkes of Ker'nor and the Dwarves of Urguan. In The Fringe, Grand King Wulfgar Grandaxe abdicated, leading to an election being called with the candidates including Dizzy Irongrinder, Thelkan Grandaxe, Zahrer Irongrinder, and lastly Hogarth himself. Hogarth would end up winning the election in a landslide and would ascend to Grand King after Wulfgar Grandaxe. However, he would have a very brief reign with not anything incredibly notable, aside from helping create stability within the Grand Kingdom after a time of great violence and warfare. Some dwarven historians at the time point to Hogarth being unhappy with the position of King and would abdicate before going on pilgrimage. In Athera, he served as Lord Regent, overseeing the transition from Zahrer Irongrinder to King Hodir Doomforged. Hogarth would work alongside Beros Tunnelsmasher and Darid Grandaxe in restoring Da Kirkja Dverga, the priesthood of dwarven faith after it had fallen defunct, and would assume titleship of prophet. It would be during this time that three dwarves managed to learn the ancient art of runesmithing, with Hogarth being one of the three. He would be remembered for being one of the first modern runesmiths, but rumor had that his tools had been destroyed, and he would end up giving up on learning and teaching ancient magic. Hogarth ended up getting wounded by an elf while at a tavern, with the Legion uniting in a grand search for the elf responsible, eventually capturing and gold-casting them in response to their attack on Hogarth. A significant event during this period was a war with the Iron Uzg, resulting in the capture and beard removal of Hogarth by Uruks.

Returning to Vailor, Hogarth assumed the role of High Prophet from Chase Irongut. He initiated an ambitious plan to build shrines for all Brathmordakin deities in Urguan, successfully attracting followers to the clergy. As High Prophet, he rediscovered the Dwarven holiday of Lakhram'Minek, contributing to the cultural celebrations. Under his guidance, da Kirkja Dverga grew into the most popular state it had ever been in. This launched a period of religious revitalization in the Grand Kingdom. During the reign of his son, Uldar Irongut, Hogarth opposed the Grand King's softening of relations with Oren, eventually leading to political turmoil. He played a role in supporting Elven Independence during the 18-Year War. Needing a time for solitude and remembrance for the dwarven people after a great amount of loss of life, Hogarth Irongut would hunt down a legendary bird, bringing it back for the dwedmar to feast on creating the famous holiday of Dwedsgiving. After stepping down as High Prophet, Hogarth became a recluse in the Dwarven countryside.

In Axios, following the removal of Torvin Grandaxe, Hogarth Irongut briefly served as Lord Regent until Algoda Frostbeard took the throne. He was at the infamous council vote in which Clan Frostbeard attacked individuals voting for the next king after the suicide of King Bastion Ireheart. Retreating to a Grandaxe outpost, Hogarth would side with the Urguani loyalists, and fight under the exiled government to restore the Grand Kingdom. During this time, he would relaunch the Red Urguan Workers Party, fighting for the rights of individual dwarven workers. During Atlas, Hogarth and Clan Irongut would found the Consularly Republic of Holm, in which Hogarth would end up serving as a Consul and instilling his fundamental ideologies of peace, activism, and providing a safe place for all people, not just dwarves to live in. After living a very long and prosperous life, Hogarth would pass away peacefully during his sleep in the realm of Arcas.

Hogarth's legacy lies in his diverse roles as a soldier, diplomat, politician, and clergyman, earning him the titles of The Prophet and Paragon of Belka. His dedication to the Dwedmar and Brathmordakin echoes through the ages as a symbol of unity and strength for the Dwarven people. Walking the halls of the progenitors of the clans, Hogarth Irongut spread wisdom and love across the continents. Born in late Aegis, he spent centuries in service, witnessing the rise and fall of kingdoms. Respected for his steady personality and wisdom, Hogarth was a skilled diplomat and restorer of the Dwarven Faith.

His diverse experiences included serving as a legionnaire, diplomat, and politician. Reflecting on the Paragon, his emphasis for the importance of family and unity in Urguan will not be forgotten. The title of Paragon of Belka was bestowed upon Hogarth Irongut, recognizing his unaging passion for the Dwedmar and Brathmordakin across centuries. As a symbol of unity and strength, Hogarth's contributions left an indelible mark on the history of the Dwarven people.
