Guest Share Posted June 11, 2024 Listen, so like I know the sun has been down for like a week, but like in rp... it's been down for like a year. And like I am just curious here... how are we not dead yet or concerned like this isn't an apocalypse? Like shouldn't crops and vegetation should have died like 3 months after the sun died, because the plants need the sun to survive? And then shouldn't the animals be struggling to find food, because once the vegetation dies, the herbivores starve and die, and then so do the carnivores? Like I get there is food stockpiles and all that and famine rp is a really sad and rough rp, but like wouldn't there be famines and mass hunger with the sun gone for this long? And shouldn't wild animals start to starve out? And I want to make this clear, I am not trying to throw any shade at the staff members or ST teams whose running this event. I genuinly respect the staff team's dedication and all the stuff that is being put into this event from the builds and the lore writing and planning. but I am genuinely confused on like the food crisis here and like the lack of sun. Like is every nation just sort of treating it like the light's down but everything is fine?

graveyard_bones 213 Share Posted June 11, 2024 A lot of people tend to forget that druids and alchemy exists; this is what is keeping the plants alive at the very moment. Granted, if you wish to RP famish, then that's entirely up to you and/or other individuals. Not only that, the sun is in a permanent (or, maybe not, it genuinely could simply last for a few weeks or so), red eclipse too, so a tinge of sunlight is still reaching the planet. The planet would drop in temperature a bit, yes. While there can be mental effects people can RP out, such as possible seasonal affective disorder, or a vitamin D deficiency, or a weakened immune system, this won't outright kill everyone within a year. Time and time again, in the real world, humanity has survived the impossible. Realistically, not much would necessarily change. We can survive.
kuebiko 686 Share Posted June 11, 2024 People are roleplaying it out as they see fun, it's up to you how seriously your character might take it. Mines schizoposting and trying to think of how to make an artificial sun with magelight. Theres pockets of characters who see this as the apocalypse given well, AZDROMOTH SHENANIGANS. Not to mention an Aengul dying, you just have to find them. Ask characters how they feel etc, not a lot will constantly doomerpost ICly.
sapphic_spidy 1089 Share Posted June 11, 2024 i think it's going to be interesting to see how child characters who grew up entirely without the sun are going to be played
ThatFunkyBunch 2818 Share Posted June 11, 2024 I've been using Farseer, blessing of Arwa to keep the fields and crops alive for six OOC hours at a time. It's not much but it's honest work.

winterblood 11181 Share Posted June 11, 2024 one of my character is more sickly from the lack of light, while another is stressing out because she's paranoid about the symbolism of eclipses idk what else can really be done across the server beyond "oh my god, the sun is gone!!" - it can help provide flavor, but i dont think its a big deal that its not groundbreaking for narratives. I think there's more weight in xan being usurped even in the darkest of times we still gotta truck on with life
Onnensr 1908 Share Posted June 12, 2024 the "realism"-ization of fantasy is a curse upon the genre and I condemn the Witcher and Game of Thrones for beginning the trend. it is one thick branch of the greater fetid oak that is grimdark as a concept, and we must burn it. we must burn it to the roots.
frvma 1014 Share Posted June 12, 2024 It's cool. It doesn't have to be realistic. It's a fantasy setting. We already have alchemy, magic and lots of other things that aren't real. Why does it matter that the sun is a cool eclipse?
