A Declaration of Feud Against Enswerp

To The Disgraceful Baliff of Enswerp, who, in lacking of Good conduct, insulted My personage and Family,

 

The Evils which you hath wrought upon the olde Estate of my House may have gone unnoticed by the unkeen Eyes of Others, but by Mine own, They that see clearly, the Grievous Injury that You wished to inflict was evident. Thirty Rats, their Bodies gnawed and their Throats cut, lay in an ugly Heap before My door, affixed in what may have been a Cruel cruce of the Invokation of Dark Magicks. It was a Foul sight which My memories shall not relinquish from My Dreams, for Stained into my Mind now shall be that Crime done against My House.

 

I have taken the Liberty and Duty of Faithfully transcribing the Letter that I found at the scene:

Be it You or a Lapsack that Performed these Deeds in Your stead, it is an Affront that I believe must be answered. As You have Invoked the Insult of the Deed, I do the same with the olde Law, the Law which governs the actions of us Gentlemen and Aristocracy, inalienable save by God and the Mother Church as she is bid. I, Lord Adrian of the Petra, declare a Feud against You and Your Properties in Enswerp, to be settled only by Your better Reason or on the field of battle.

 

My Demands are those that follow:

 

I) I Demand an apology for the Injury done against Me and My House.

 

II) I Demand a property at a Tax reduction of twenty per-cent.

 

III) I Demand exclusive harvesting Rights to half of the Fields of Enswerp.

 

IV) I Demand Proprietorship of the local Tavern and a portion of the Revenues from it.

 

If You do not accede to these Fair and Just Demands, I will see that they are won on the Field of Feud, with Fifty of my Soldiers against an equal number of Yours ((5v5)). In view of the olde Law, no Death or Mutilating blows shall be dealt, no Persons other than the agreed Combatants shall be harmed, and no fighting shall be done save the chosen date of battle. Any violations will be paid in full return by Means of Coin.

Robert Tiberius would find that his third-favorite quill was snapped in half! Of course, there were an assortment of spares, so it didn't matter much. Left behind is yet another old portrait of Adrian.

John of Enswerp found it difficult to leave Cliffhaven Hall at this time due to an assorted number of reasons. So, whilst in his office, he'd summarize the paper to his son or any other of his children that stuck around. "It appears your Uncle, Robert, may have been bantering a bit too far with Prince Paul's children. It states he left a very, very nasty gift of maimed rats upon their property. Do I believe he did it? I can't quite say."
