Regarding the Duke of the Adrians

IN REGARDS TO MY DECLINING HEALTH

 

My Fellow Adrians,

 

Over the past sixty-six years, we have made great progress as a town.

 

Today, Adria has the strongest economy in the world. We've made historic investments in rebuilding our Duma, in lowering potion costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable alchemy care to a record number of Adrians. We've provided critically needed housing to hundreds of refugee veterans exposed to toxic fallout from the Razing of Winburgh. Passed the first magic safety law in the midlands. And passed the most significant reforestation legislation in the history of Adria. Adrians have never been better positioned to lead than we are today.

 

I know none of this could have been done without you, the Adrian folk. Together, we overcame a once in a century war and the worst economic crisis since the Mori Invasion. We've protected and preserved our Dumacracy, when the whole circle of the world had come crashing down to deprive it. We've revitalized and strengthened our image around the world, and for the first time perhaps ever are poised to prosper in peace without feud with either Savoyard or Haenseman.

 

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your Duke, both in the glory of prosperity and the disgrace of our exile. And while it has been my intention to serve until death, I believe it is in the best interest of my family and the Adrian people for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my final duties as Exilic Duke for the remainder of the year, so I may oversee the first Great Adrian Duma.

 

I will speak to the Duma later this year in more detail about my decision.

 

For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see my reign endure. The support of our friends from across Aevos who despite having gone their separate ways, facing bribes and political pressure, have supported my vision for the Dumageddon for the sake of the Adrian people.

 

I want to thank my beloved wife Oksana and my esteemed friend Stefan for being extraordinary partners in all my work, and all the squires and knights, families and friends who helped us along the way. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the Adrian folk for the faith and trust you have placed in me to save the Duma. It is no exaggeration to say we have forever served the legacy of Adria by restoring it to the families of Adrias, in Adria.

 

I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing the Duma cannot do - when we Adrians do it together. 

 

Ultimately, it is my belief that the Adrians will find themselves taken care of well in the hands of a man who has spent a lifetime rebuilding, restoring and revitalizing the Duchy of Adria under myself and my predecessors, and whose family have been stalwart servants of the Adrian Dumas for a long time–Stefan Euler. With what energy reserved left in my withered bones, I fully endorse him to be my successor as Duke of the Adrians in Exile, and Lord of Beznov.

 

As agreed upon by the DUMAGEDDON DOCTRINE of 1971 between Haense and the Adrians, I, Markus Marie Sarkozic, call upon the GREAT ADRIAN DUMA to elect my successor as Exilic Duke of the Adrians.

As she sat beside him, watching him carefully pen the letter, her only remaining palm came to rest upon his shoulder, her voice laden with the weariness that had overtaken her, "You have served them well, kochy," She uttered, her words heavy with sorrow, though a flicker of happiness touched her lips. Their grandchildren, their future, offered a moment of bittersweet comfort as she smiled softly toward him.
