The Star-Children, Mutants of the Void.

“You have more than one birthright, boy.”

Origin

For decades, some were made aware of the strange happenings that would take shape if a pregnant individual would find themselves voidally poisoned by a voidal tear or otherwise. The child would often come out a mutant, with glowing eyes, strange, augmented body parts, starry scars, and more.

A phenomenon yet to be understood, even as it developed. Soon enough, these children began to appear more, and were more widely seen- though still not nearly as much as a normal descendant. They found themselves with few new abilities- besides an immense affinity to the Void.

Creation

A Star-Child can be created in a multitude of ways. Most known, is by a mother reaching the required voidal poisoning as listed under Voidal Tearing lore. However, as of late, one found other ways. These ways are as follows:

-If one or both the child’s parents is a Voidstalker with a second mind

-If a mother spends a surplus of time within a voidal hollow.

-If a mother consumes the blood of a voidal horror.

-By ST decision, in a void-related event.

-If an individual sips raw arcana from a Matured voidal tear, they must roll out of 100. On a 100 roll, they will transform into a Star-Child. On a 1 roll, they will fall into a coma for 1 OOC week. One may only attempt this once. This requires ST supervision.

-If one or more of the child’s parents are Star-Children, it may be passed onto them.

Redlines

-The appropriate RP must be documented upon the FA, such as the approved Voidstalking Feat apps of the parents, a screenshot of the Voidal Tear, a screenshot of the Voidal Hollow, a screenshot of the consumption of horror blood in an approved event, approval from an ST, or the Star-Child feat app of the parent.

-One requires an approved Feat Application to play a Star-Child. Notable Star-Children may also be grandfathered in, if they have approved RP.

-One may be both a ‘Blessed’ Child of Ixris and a Star-Child, however their lifespan will be shortened to 70 years. (Lord of the Craft Hardmode)

Voidal Augmentation

A Star-Child will certainly have an augmented appearance, usually voidal in nature, as their soul is warped by the void.. They are required to display at least one of the following, excluding glowing eyes - required, though may have more than one if they wish.

-They will often possess some sort of serious health condition, though these will usually not be lethal. Blindness, deafness, being mute, or having strange and odd bone formations are extremely common.

-Glowing eyes, this will manifest in varying degrees in EVERY Star-Child. Though, depending on the affliction, the child might find issues with their sight. Glowing eyes, galaxies for eyes, eyes that are unnatural texture or shape are not uncommon.

-Metallic. shiny skin in places.

-Scars across their body looking like scars from an evocation, possibly glowing cracks similar to electrical burns, flame burns, frostbite, or sand rashes are usually seen.

-Patches of their skin that glow.

-Strange patterns on their skin, like nonsensical words, or otherwise. They may glow.

-Extra minor limbs, like an extra finger, toe, ear, or in severe cases, a third eye, second nose, or extra ears.

-Wild and chaotically colored hair.

-Mutations such as sharper fingernails, odd joints, or otherwise.

-Skin colored in wild ways, possibly up to the full body. One’s entire body may not glow. . that would be ridiculous.

-Horns of focus crystal, though they will not be uniform and often erratic, as well as translucent.

-Other misc things- though if you have to think ‘would this be allowed?’ presume no.

-Glowing Blood.

Redlines

-No augmentations can be an advantage, and throughout their lives they will face a much weaker immune system. This must be roleplayed accordingly.

-None of these augmentations may be combative whatsoever.

-Their skin will always be the same physical texture. Metallic skin is NOT metal, and any glowing areas will be at most slightly warmer, fever-like temperature, providing no advantages.

-One’s entire body may not be glowing, though it may be slightly metallic, and shiny.

-None of the words may be used to metagame anything- if you’d somehow manage that.

-The ‘Horns’ often manifest more as small, crystal-like growths, and are incomparable to a Tiefling’s.

-The soul of a Star-Child may appear galactic, and abnormal, where applicable. These appearances may cross over into other CAs. For example, a Star-Child whom possesses galactic eyes and turns into a phantom may find their eyes are still colored differently. Similar things can be said for all transformative CAs- though it is up to the player in question, and may not be used to break any redlines of these CAs.

-A Star-Child must have somewhat abnormal eyes, being clearly abnormal. Tawkin eyes and other alchemical solutions would be worthless, as Tawkin eyes would simply restore them to their original state, eye-changing potions could change the eyes- but would still be clearly abnormal. All other prosthetics would suffer from anomaly- up to the player's choosing, as long as it is clear that there is abnormality.

Mentality

A Star-Child would possess an interesting and demented perception in reality. Hallucinations throughout their entire life are a common-place, as well as haunting nightmares. All sorts of mental conditions may develop, though notable effects may include:

-Imaginary friends, in the form of recurring hallucinations.

-Immense hallucinations.

-Hatred and/or fear towards certain elements, or other concepts often seen in the void.

-Depression

-Anxiety

-Schizophrenia

-God Complex

-Superiority Complex

-Martyr Complex

-General hatred for order.

It’s up to the player how to roleplay their character, though, and should do so in the way they find most comfortable.

Abilities.

A Voidborne would find themselves possessing some passive, interesting capabilities, originating from their innate voidal connection- some things seen by other voidal mages, some not.

[Non-Combat, Active] Imagination

An ability which a voidal mage naturally has, even from a young age a Star-Child will be able to manifest an aura of any colors they choose, showing up as small, translucent mists. They may write, draw, or create shapes in the air with it.

Spoiler

Redlines: (Copied from Voidal Connection page)

Imagination is temporary, ending when the caster disconnects,

Imagination is entirely harmless,

Imagination cannot create highly detailed images, including but not limited to people, specific items, maps books, etc

Imagination as a result cannot be used as a way to relay information such as faces or perfectly recreate things a caster has seen (no meta),

Imagination is however capable of crude shapes akin to a T3 evocationist,

Imagination is for strictly non-combat usage only,

Imagination cannot be used for any kind of advantage over another player,

Imagination provides no obscurement at all. It is transparent.

Imagination does not interact with any sense except sight,

No sounds, smells, touch or taste - it is NOT an illusion,

Imagination is very clearly not an illusion, and appears as an obvious manipulation of mana,

Imagination's colour is the same as the caster's aura colour,

Imagination is not able to be physically interacted with, any attempts to do so will fail and you will pass through it harmlessly and with no resistance,

Imagination is limited to a five block radius centred on the caster,

Imagination is dispelled immediately if it comes into contact with either Thanhium or Null Arcana,

Imagination should not be used to be an annoying prick.

[Non-Combat, Passive] Aura Sensory

A Star-Child may detect some latent flow of mana- though it manifests more as a sixth sense. In the range of spellcasting, they will feel a change in the world, though will be unable to detect any sort of important info, such as type, location, or range.

Spoiler

Redlines:
-May not be used combatively.

-May not be used to gain an advantage, excluding times where an illusion is cast near them, in which they will feel the innate casting regardless of how hidden it was.

-May not detect anything not voidal.

-May not be used to metagame information like Voidstalkers. Event info may be given at ET expression.

[Non-Combat, Passive] Expert Connection

A Star-Child learning Voidal Magics may start at T2, however, T2 will last as long as T1 and T2, combined, meaning that while they start from T2, they will reach T3 at the same time as they would without the feat. They would also need all required lessons for T1 and T2 as per usual,

Too, would they find their connection is enhanced, meaning they will require no arcane focus to gain the benefits of one.

Spoiler

Redlines:
-A Star-Child who possesses no feats such as Voidstalking, Eminence, or Scion, will not have any greater focus, excluding benefits added from arcane foci.

-A Star-Child would be able to reap the benefits of an Arcane Focus without actually possessing one. These abilities do not stack, as in they may not get an arcane focus as well to double their effects. Not how it works.

-Follows all redlines of [✓] [Magic Invention] Arcane Focus

-The player’s mana and skill level would act as if it was T2 from day one, affecting the spells they are able to learn. However, they would still progress to T3 after the amount of weeks equivalent to a normal mage’s has passed.

-The student would still require all lessons for T1 and T2.

[Non-Combat, Passive] Veil Connection

A Star-Child, with their soul and mind based in the mana of the world and the Void, would find themselves intercepting messages not meant for them.

A Star-Child would be able to intercept both Veil-watcher visions, and prophecies, as per prophecy lore.

The Violet Soul

A Voidborne has a special, voidally tainted soul. This may not be purged by any known means. This may manifest in its physical appearance, and will most certainly manifest in what they may find themselves able to do, in life. Their soul’s appearance may find itself odd and colored strangely, even if they take up another transformative CA, there may be abnormalities.

Redlines:

-Star-Children may not learn Shamanism, Druidic magics, or holy magics, like Templarism or others.

-Star-Children’s souls may possess strange and different colored appearances, which may manifest anywhere, and appear on other transformative CAs, such as Nephilim, Wight, Lich, etc.

-Star-Children explicitly may not become Machine Spirits, as Garumdir does not want any hold on a voidally-touched soul. The process would be felt to be deeply wrong by the Star-Child, a gut feeling driving them away from such a procedure.

-If a Star-Child was to become a Klone, the new body may possess the same mutations, or a new array of mutations, though they must still possess some as usual.

-Aurum will not hurt a Star-Child

-Thanhium, abjuration, and Auric oil will be deeply uncomfortable to a Star-Child, as it would sting and burn akin to a red-hot knife, as it merely makes contact with their skin.

-The feat must be made when the child is 0-5.

-Star-Children would be unable to enter any deific domain after death, being damned to be eternally in the soulstream, never finding rest. The only exclusions are that of Nephilim and Slotted Seers- Azdromoth and Vaasek being unconcerned with their servant/children's altered soul.

Not a bad concept but these already exist on a much more aesthetic level in voidal tear lore, as referenced and I see no reason as to why it needs to be expanded on, let alone buffed with next to none of the weaknesses from before.

i wouldnt use the term star child since its kinda used by a few demi djinn to describe themselves itd kinda be awkward but not the end of the world

also what do abjuration do to them? should they not 'heal' or somehow harm them? is there any way to fix this condition?

Good attempt.

as the lore is written, they should be able to connect to heralds of azdromoth lore due to that magic not actually mucking with a herald's soul. Normal cursed children can also become a herald afterall, so i don't see why these individuals can't. Azdromoth cares not for the state of the soul, merely that one would serve himself and his children.

Seconding this!

Other than that, I really do think there's a lot of fun potential in this! :}
(Just be sure to let them get all the other fun FAs like Heralds and whatever for extra funsies!!)

This feels like a FA for Powercreep, without any real downside, getting rid of any weakness it might have had. If you want to be a Void Mage this is in essence a no-brainer - if you don't, don't take it.

There are plenty of references to a Voidally-Corrupted Soul - what does that actually mean? Does the Star-Child get pulled into the Void when they PK and thus can't be risen into any post death CA, or is it just the CC No Deity Magic redline copypasted over?

Why are they tied to the Veil, at all? The Void isn't the Veil, and a influence of corruption on the soul by the Void in no way ties someone to the Veil.

Why T3? CCs can start Naztherak at T2, but require all the lessons. In addition, the permanent Arcane Focus buff seems like a decent idea, but in practice will probably just result in further minmax.

Why so many methods? The only real way I see this being possible that base lore does not cover is if a parent spent a long time near a Hollow as they might a Tear. Voidstalkers are absolutely not as potent as Tears/Hollows, and the same goes for Horror Blood. Also, drinking Tear-Mana is no different then drinking any other form of liquid mana, that's just what it is?

Why are their no real downsides? Being unable to attain deity connections and mental ailments, compared to what they gain in conflict and non-combative applications, are effectively meaningless. Why would something so clearly magical not be harmed by anti-magics?

To me, this seems more a way to get Veil Watching + Arcane Focus Benefits + T3 Void in one go, without requiring someone to put in the effort they'd usually have to. It's not really doing anything else that the current Void-Children from Tearing Lore doesn't already do.

i dont think I included any portion saying they cant? I even specifically included nephilim as one of those that will carry over aesthetics

other than that i appreciate all criticisms and ill make some adjustments

As of now, it's mostly an RP downside- much like CC. Currently, in the general world of LoTc, void is heavily looked down upon by most - especially the church. A Void-Kid who is hurt by auric oil or abjuration would certainly raise some eyebrows.

This feels redundant. In what scenario does someone do this? If they might get ST supervision for the sole purpose of becoming a Star-Child, there is a 1/100 chance that something interesting happens. I would suggest you replace this with something more interactive than a dice roll; potentially, doing this could be certain, but transforming in this way could bring more drawbacks.

A void-variant of cursed children sounds nice, but it doesn't have any actual drawbacks for all the benefits it gives (there is no reason a voidal mage shouldn't have this), and constant, inherent mana detection seems uninteresting.

CC have an IC downside too. It's not just RP downside. They can never be cured for longer than an OOC week. Their soul is like annihilated by Ixris upon death, etc.

Voidal things should slowly drive you insane. Especially something like this. The Void shouldn't be a fun thing you can just tap into without hardly any consequences besides some flavor RP outside of voidal sickness, etc. There should be clear downsides to messing with the immaterial when you weren't made to or meant to.
