A Crown Set Aside

Sigmar var Ruthern, Lord Speaker of his Majesty's Royal Duma, had only just barely returned to the city of New Valdev. The frost and the cold having just subsided, and his ability to feel having come back to him. After a stop at the tavern, seeing everyone again, it brought back that sense of warmth and normalcy he so desired again.

Then the bells tolled. Not once, not twice, but three times. A sign of only one thing.

The hardened and frozen expression he so garnered on the Mountain returned at once, as his view fell. This expedition to the Summit had taken so much out of him, why did Godan seek to pry more from him then?

The thoughts rushed to his head as he sat, placing his head into his hands. "One more day," he thought. "One more day, and I could've spoken to him one last time." He'd sigh, exhaustion hitting every point of his body, now even his mind.

Despite the work to be done upon his return, nothing could push the thought of King Marius III from his head as he signed the Hussariyan, slowly moving along to find those he was close to.

‘We will never escape these walls’

‘We will never escape these walls’

The words repeated in the Princess’s mind as she consoled those who were otherwise inconsolable within the royal chambers. Stefaniya’s gaze held strong upon Marius’ lifeless form, silenced within the same room that took the lives of his parents some moons ago.

"I wish I had gotten to know you better, Marius..." John Casimir regretfully expressed. "You were a figure I considered a voice of reason and admiration. Rest easily; you earned your peace."

As Mahaut sat by Saint Karl’s Crossing, the tolling of bells was enough of a sign. Gazing out onto the land sprawling before her, the Grand Lady let out a sigh. From a Grand Lady without a Queen, to an Aulic Council without a King. Another crude irony bestowed onto Haense.

Spoiler

Thank you Dogged for giving me a chance to sit on the council as Grand Lady. Never thought I would be here and I don’t regret a second of it. I truly hope the best for you in real life, especially with college.

Reinhard heard the news on the square - a passing murmur, whispers...

It stilled him. With a heavy heart, he turned his lizardly gaze to the palace and bid Karl well. He made a note to be sure to speak to him.

Alaric, as he did perhaps once a decade, dropped his facade of confidence as the news reached him. He spilled his cup of Sauvignon on the tavern table in a slight fit of disbelief. "I didn't deserve to outlive you.." He blankly started at Lesanov thinking about the last meeting they had and the last words he had spoken too him. "You can call me Marius.." He murmured softly. It was one of the King's final acts to grant his mercy to the struggling House Valkonen, he was the one who gave the clan a chance they hardly deserved; a chance to prove their loyalty to the crown. Now, a different monarch would test the House' fealty and capability, but surely he would be most pleased. "Juliya awaits you in the skies, Marius...with open arms." He signed the Hussariyan, sighed deeply, and trotted his way to the Basilica for some purpose or another.

A prayer is offered forth to the Seven Skies as the news came to the woman, signing the Lorraine once worn by her late Mother. She knew all too well what her people's ally were going through, for she had experienced it herself.

May the late King's children find peace and solace where they can, came Mara's prayer. May Marius III see his beloved wife once more. And may Haense find respite during such a time.

"All those snacks came back to bute you, huh old friend?" Osgod said with a sigh "I'll surely miss you. I hope at least the big guy up there prepared a large feast for you. Goodbye Marius."

That day, Ilya grieved the loss of both his liege and friend. Even in his ailing, bedridden state, it was a burden like no other to carry.

Spoiler

Ember tallied another mark in her journal, under the page of "Haenseni Kings I outlived."

However for this one she added a little star, probably she only admired this king due to his legendary beard and how good it always looked.

That's to say, the royal barbanov fashion may end, but will it continue?
