It is easy to discount attempts of restoration. Since the Esheveurd of old and of recent descent, we’ve witnessed too many regimes simply failing in the scale of their predecessor. No one can estimate the great loss we have suffered in the Ashford name endlessly sullied by pretenders. Often, there is little legitimacy to claimants, in a line diluted by an abundance of renowned family ties.

 

The Keens thrived under Savoyard rule, and paid heed to the reformations of its time. Close in the courts, we witnessed what greatness could have been under the Ashford sun, if it had not availed scheme after scheme that brought about its ruin. 

 

In witnessing a recent claimant to the Ashford line, so proclaimed ‘Patriarch-Dynast of Ashford’, prompted concern and confusion. And yet, we examined, we deliberated, we sought for any flaw that might derail his name. We found none. As it stands, the one Robert Lysander Ashford de Rouen stands above the scattered remnants of the Esheveurd diaspora. In name, bearing, and right, he fulfills the measure required to return greatness to a dying legacy.

"No flaws on the man. . . besides clipping a young Elven child's ear, and sending his men to attack two children in a foreign nation. Quite interesting. . ."

With a wry smile, she remarked, “The Keens are always eager to insert themselves into matters, desperately seeking to elevate their own significance. They have no right to comment on the Ashford situation, just as they had no voice in the Enswerp affair.” With a light chuckle, she crumpled the letter, preparing to use it as kindling for her fireplace.
