From the Office of Elsohaer

Published 12th of The Deep Cold, 224 S.A.

“I am a woman of integrity. Unlike our Northern cousins, we hold firm to our agreements. To allow you passage through our lands to reach Krugmar would be a betrayal of our allies. What precedent does that set for the realm at large?”

-Sohaer Valindra Liavyre during a meeting with King John II of Balian

I take no pride in severing the bounds of an agreement, though this one was shattered long before I cut the thread by my own hand.

We promised peace.

We promised safety.

We promised friendship.

Yet you spat in our face.

We are not blind to your actions. Our lands are those well-patrolled, monitored with a hawklike gaze.

We believed you to be a nation of good, honest men…

So why is that when you came asking us permission to march your troops through our land, you failed to mention you had already done so?

The state feels no fury; it is fuelled not by ire, hatred or loathing..

Only a resounding sorrow that you would prove your enemies right.

To the Kingdom of Balian,

While you have defied the word of elsohaer, elcihi’thilln is nothing if not a merciful people. Our quarrels lie with the lands beyond your own. Raise not a blade against us, and you shall be left unharmed by the Silver State. Your people face a time of great hardship, you must ask yourself as a nation on the outer sides of Haense as to whether this war is worth the catastrophic loss you risk.

To The Kingdom of Petra,

We have had no quarrel with your kind in the recent past. It pains the Silver State that you have found yourselves in the very centre of this war. I ask you to think about what is best for your people. Forces shall be passing through your lands, whether you like it or not.. Hundreds of your innocent peasantry risk being caught in the crossfires. Is that a reasonable price to pay for a war you are only minorly involved in? What do you seek to gain from a victory other than the claim that you simply won

To The Kingdom of Haense

War has been on the horizon for decades, though the State had hoped it would never come to this. For decades now, you have ignored our diplomats in favor of the cracking and crumbling throne of the Starlit City. Perhaps if you had heeded the calls of our diplomats, your fate would be different. You might owe thanks to your Balianese brothers for being both the reason for our past neutrality, and now the reason the odds are stacked all the more against your crown.

To The Principality of Celia’nor

We remember the two occasions where you tried to bring our city to its knees. You failed. The Silver State stands now stronger than seen in centuries. We take no pride in the deaths that will come of this war by our hand, though we relish in the notion that we shall, at the very least, stand to outlive you. The Silver State offers shelter to the peasantry that are to suffer in the name of your wanton bloodlust, though we cannot extend the same mercy to any but the innocent.

You sought to be our ruin and now we shall serve as yours.

How cruel fate can be…

By order of the Venerable Sohaer,

The mutual agreement of Non-Aggression between The Silver State of Sohaer and the Kingdom of Balian known as The Treaty of the Tropics is henceforth declared null and void on the grounds of a violation of good faith incited by Balian’s Military.

Henceforth…

The Silver State of Haelun’or, with due provocation joins the conflict in the central lands of Aevos on the side of The Pontifical States.

"The Free Peoples of Aevos shall oppose Hanseti-Ruska,"

OWYN HECTOR silently pondered what sort of troops had moved through Haelun'orian territory to warrant 'aggression' and 'provocation' against the Silver State. He shrugged, coming to the conclusion that the 'aherals of elcihi'thilln were just bored and feeling left out.

"So the Church's allies are all pagans and non-believers against a united humanity, how can they think the Church will ever recover from this?" asked Sergei.

Estevot could scream. His sister lived in Hae'lunor. The Church had wronged her time and time again. And now they were going to join up with them? "We didn't even have troops move through you! We don't need to!" But what's done is done. Hae'lunor has broken their vow first, regardless of what they said. Estevot would try to make sure his sister would be safe, but that is the only mercy for Hae'lunor if they continued down this path to harm people for a crime they didn't commit.

John II's eyes, often stony, were now ablaze.
"You think I sought to deceive you?"

"I marched to the defence of Hyspia against a band of orcs and brigands of the Papal States. And I did so with haste to save lives, with little more than my household guard and guests from abroad. Not a damned army!"

"Not a single drop of uruk blood was spilt across the desert; not a single raid was carried out upon uruk lands by my men. The same cannot be said for those who pillage the lands of my Canonist brethren..."
The King of Balian's hand clamped tight upon the missive, which he then fed to the fires.

"I came to you in good faith. You failed to offer me the same courtesy. Now, you'd best hope your ivory towers are high enough, Valindra."

"Those Ivory Towers will never be high enough, pater." Elias commented back to his father and Lothar after reading the Elven statement. @Stal27 @Andustar

"If only they knew."
She mused, as if Valindra were aware and present as she rummaged through her belongings, preparing for war.

Johanna Vuiller sucked her teeth as she read through the missive. "I knew it."

A grumpy Orc nods at the news from their fellow Southerners. A treaty with Haense vassals was worth less than the paper on which it was written. After being gifted a peace by the Chieftain of the Cross-spirit shamans the Hyspian oath-breakers had violated all terms of the treaty at the behest of their Haenseni masters. It seemed that the High Elves of Haelun'or were now learning that the bonds of vassalage upon Balian were just as strong. The beck and call of the Haense-tribe trumping all oath and treaty.

"You know things are getting bad when the pagans have more honor than so-called "canonists.--Or good, for us at least." A Ravenmirian girl remarked from afar.

"Owynists, pagans, and elves who hide in their towers? Ea wonder how many they will bring, their streets are always empty...." A Knight of Hanseti-Ruska recalled the minuit times when Haelun'or was bustling, in the presence of the late King Karl IV and other Haeseni. Odd.

Castien shakes. Rage, fear, concern.

"They cut our ears. It's always been them. It's always been the grail. How can they defend that? How can they do this? They kill us, they maim us, they despise us. Why can't the elves just stay neutral?"

No message to Reinmar. Nothing to read that concerns him in particular beyond the defense of those who would rather see elves dead and gone.

Castien would like to think of himself as mostly neutral in this. He works at clinics all around Aevos, involved in either side. He just wants to do his job.

His part in this is not about anything other than revenge. He wants one side to win, not for the sake of any place in particular, but as proof that the Grailmen aren't invincible. That there's some justice, for him, for the elven woman who was beaten to death, for the "heretical" child.

But not even elves can take justice for their own. And he doubts a letter will solve this. Maybe it's worth a shot. Maybe...
