A Request for Clarification from the Cardinal Jorenus

To His Eminence, the Cardinal Jorenus,

I am merely a boy of sixteen, untreaded in the waters of our world, save those which we find along our coasts, for the realms of God now stretch from sea-to-sea. I certainly have not waded into the depths of the magickal arts, nor will I ever- my house’s worth has been proven by the blade alone, so it will be by the blade that I stake my reputation.

That being said, I do not believe that warrants and permits, except in those cases of outstanding magic, which may have the potential to cause great harm if misused, are altogether necessary. The bureaucratic strain for such a task appears herculean: we must not let the mistakes of the Novellens, the Barbanovs, the Old Robes, and others, be anything but cautionary tales. We are not a savage people, nor should we aspire to be, but stifling the natural inclination of many peoples, which directs itself towards the discovery of the mysteries of this universe, should not be done under the red-taped fist of bureaucratic demand. If they are evil, then slay them. If they are good, then let them be good.

Were I to propose a method, it would be to create a registry of those practitioners of the magickal arts, at least those generally not thought to be wholly evil, but otherwise to permit learning, practice, and scholarship, only intervening in occasions of misuse. That being said, I am merely a aspirant-knight whose spurs have yet to be won, so take my words as nothing but a gentle breeze to be ignored among the many others on a warm, comfortable spring’s day. Do think think of my statement here as a defense of the magickal, for I find its users to be weak of the spirit, owing to their readiness to abandon the ancient, proud ways of battle, which I have recently tasted in our last siege, but I will always caution against methods of enforcement that require a vigilance from every Canonist Prince and their subjects that is too great to be effectively replicable.

This line of thinking enables me to arrive at my question. Will the warrants be applicable in ALL of the lands of Canondom, when they come to be, or will they only be enforced within the Kingdom of Burgundy? Will this magick commission but open to spectate? And will we have an accompanying process of identifying magicks? I remain an obedient subject of God and of His Majesty, King Tiberius, and will endeavor at every turn to serve them faithfully. If I have erred or spoken blasphemously, allow my youth, on just this one occasion, to be my shield, for in these affairs I can only plead ignorance.

The Devil in Black prays to the Lord for this young man's words to be taken seriously. "Why is it that it is the youngest of candles that have to stand up to the overwhelming ignorance that is the darkened hearts and minds of ambitious, greedy men lusting for power and control, not to be closer to GOD but to feel more like they ARE GOD. May the Lord forgive them for their hubris and arrogance, for many of the people they shall harm will not."

“There’s no way they can expect every mage in Aevos to sign up for a registry in a Kingdom most of us don’t live in, to appease a religion that most of us don’t follow,” said one mage to the man whose couch (her own) she was crashing on until the Canonists got their shit together about magic usage. @Travisty

"I HATE THE MAGIC COMMISSION I HATE ALL THESE FORMS, SO SOULLESS!" Said Ted Brae, the mad High-Honktiff.

TO THE KNIGHT-ASPIRANT CASSIUS,

I am most obliged and pleased to see the general canon-folk take concern and interest in these matters; it is the mantle, the burden, and the obligation of every canonist, from the laity to he upon the Throne of St. Daniel, to uphold virtue, and work towards the betterment of the realm at large. The precise details of the Magical Licensing System are still being carefully tinkered, tweaked, devised, and otherwise adjusted to be the upmost effectivity. Much more information will be released in the Final report that will clarify all these questions and certainly more. Fear not, Canon-folk!

Such an option for a Registry is also being considered. As for enforcement, the exact details of enforcement will be specifically discussed with the relevant parties; a coordinated effort between Church, and State. When the Full Commission is complete, and those in violation of the new regulations are too be arrested, the Holy Mother Church and Canonist Princes will be in close communication to establish a system that will efficiently, and cooperatively, achieve these goals.

The pursuit of a virtuous world is never a simple, easy, or expedient task; yet the burden for clarity is ours, and to those who felt undue and unnessecary concern as a result of my prior brief words, I do apologize. May the Lord forgive my haste; and may you all likewise take comfort in the LORD's love, and knowing his plan will be executed to the fullest, and clearest extent when the time is right.
