Even though it'd be a complex system, with a few more simplifications... Could work pretty well. 

I wouldn't say it would please everyone, but until now, ships don't have much use other than aesthetics anyway.

@Javert@Werew0lfwhat do you think of this post? if I cut it down a bit more and simplified it further, would yall be interested in testing some of these mechanics out for this war?

My public facing reply to this entire debate, is that we need staff to make a mechanical way to have ships work. Its been so long that the naval theater has been ignored and it makes me sad. 

However, should @Werew0lfbe interested, I would gladly have a sit-down with him and his naval peeps, along with the Dwarves so that we can all agree on how we want the naval aspects of this conflict to proceed. Perhaps with some precedents set and some user data on different approaches, we can actually develop a system for a real naval war.

I get that it's not the easiest way to fight this conflict, however, the easy way isn't always the best way, or the way that is most conducive to proper and meaningful RP.

If we want to do this the easy, 1v1 on Rust?

Ladies & Gents - even if this proposed system isn't adopted by the server's staff... something must be adopted regarding maritime conflict, and I hope you all can agree!
Just talking about it and possibly having it used (if agreed upon) by the two warring parties will elevate this enough for SOMETHING to be considered by staff.

I think this is a very real conversation that should be had, and I applaud the initiative taken to actually come up with an idea on how it should be approached. +1 and much support from me.

Thank you for responding to this and giving your support. I say it in the intro but I of course would be completely happy for someone to come along and release a new, SIMPLER, system, just because people saw and interacted with this post. My mission is complete. WOOOHOOOO!

This course of action is something that would probably, for better or for worse, forward the conversation more than anything I or staff could (short of actual plugins and rule-additions). The use of ships by nations and the posts that come with it, over time, would probably begin a process of building up a scaffold of standardization which would eventually be fleshed out in a way everyone could not only UNDERSTAND, but also HAVE PRECEDENT of. Both of which were struggles in the creation of this system.
