What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Format-

The application should be in the format supplied in the directions. If they do not use the proper format, this shows a lack of understanding of the directions and possibly a lack of effort.

2. Bio Content-

I do not look for a 10 page essay for a fantastic bio. Any use of lore or locations in Aegis is always a plus because it shows that the applicant has read the lore. A well written bio is determined by content, not length. As they say, it's quality, not quantity. Originality is also another factor in a good appliation. Things such as "My parents were eaten by orcs" or "My character's name is Aragorn" are not original thoughts. One must create a unique character instead of modeling after an established character. I would be inclined to accept applicants with original characters that I feel would add something to the server.

3. Grammar-

Proper grammar is key to good role play. Grammar clearly is not visible in real life, but if people type like "i can c u their", it makes for awful role play. If one does not use proper grammar in their official server application, I can only imagine how they will role play around Aegis.

4. Character's Abilities-

A character's abilities should match nicely with their ambitions as well as their bio. If someone says "My character is a pacifist. He wouldn't harm a pretty little soul on this land of Aegis.", and then they continue to say "He is more than proficient in the art of the sword. He has had much experience using this tool of death.", these statements contradict each other. A character should not be perfect at every skill because that would not be realistic. He/she should have some weaknesses like any normal person would.

5. Definition of Role Playing-

A simple "I know what RP is; I have done it many times before.", will not suffice for me. They must show and understanding of the concept of role play and define it in their own words. This would hopefully weed out the occasional player that walks around Aegis calling people IC by their Minecraft names. This server mostly consists of role playing, so it is crucial that the player has a clear and concise explanation of RP.

Notes

I have had much experience in working with applications on another server that I previously played on. I was the sole administrator on the role playing server TrueCraft. I handled all of the applications and helped players that required assistance with the process of being accepted. I have also assisted Bell (TehLulu) with sorting through the apps. I learned what makes a good app from my experience with her. While I cannot always be on the server, I can almost always access the forums. I have a lot of time to dedicate to the apps. I believe I would be a good addition to the team. ^^

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

[1] Biography

The key to a good application is a wellthought out biography in my view. If it is not fully developed it is better than one that leaves no room for improvment in game. Also if you don't have a very good biography it will be very hard to play your character well.

[2]Personality

You need a personality that matches with your biography otherwise you end up with a muddled and confusing character that's very hard to rp well.

[3]Dedication.

It means alot more if it's your first application and you write about 3-4 paragraghs for your bio and explain your answers fully than if it's your fifth app and you don't explain your answers well and your bio's only 1-2 paragraphs. I would say the first person is much more dedicated than the second because they put more effort into their app even though it's their first and it's the other person's fith.

[4]follows the lore

If your app doesn't follow the lore it will really confuse people when you try to play that character and it will just make the lore a big jumble of rubbish if everyone adds whatever they want and then would make the rp very to do.

[5] Easy to read

If an app has coloured text it makes it alot harder to read than if it's done in normal text and it takes extra hassle to read it xo the application team have to spend more time on yours and less time on everyone elses

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Biography!

this is the most important aspect to know whether a player is a good Rper and a bad one.. I have been reading A LOT of application just for fun and I notice that a lot of the players like to do a cliche stories just for the sake of giving a bio. Furthermore their stories are mostly short and did not define their character.. I rather have the server to have a good Rper who have English as their 2nd language then having a bad Rper. thus I really think that biography is really important more than Anything else. I know a lot of applicants wrote that biography is really important and I'm stressing it further as I know having a good biography means you are a good Rper

2. RULES

rules are the law and should be obeyed all the time.. There are countless ban report in this server because people did not understand or did not read the rules at all! I suspect this is because of the current format of the application.. The application form did not test whether a player understand completely the rule of this server. And If I were to be in the application team. I would like to change the format of the application. Instead of asking which rules you like or do not like, it is better to test their understanding of the rules and stress the importance of it. One good example is to ask what is the meaning of power game base on your understanding and such. If they fail to answer or their answer is not what is desired, we know that he/she did not read and understand the rules

3. Age

While this is not a really concern of mine, there are some kids out there who likes to troll around. I don't really have a problem with this server and thus I'm not going to talk much about it.. I just wish that kids out there would act a bit more adult if things do not go their way

4. Language

I'm not to say that player must have a good grasp in English language since I,myself am not a native American. I was born in Asia and is currently living in Asia. However, I feel that applicants must have at least be able to understand English and is able to write without having grammatical mistakes in every single sentence. I can't say much about language due to the fact that english is my 2nd language.

5. Experience

Having a basic experience in minecraft would be very helpful in order to play in this server or other servers. It just irritate me when someone ask in ooh how to make tools and such when they can search the wiki or should have memorized it if they have some experince. Some people even have 0 experience and the first thing that they do is ask a lot of questions or get a ban for griefing or stealing just because they don't understand the basic etiqutte in minecraft server. Furthermore, having to have an experience in any RP forums or games will be a great start for the player that is applying..

Well there's my reasons and I'm sorry if you do not understand what I am saying :( if you need me to clarify any doubt please do not hesitate to PM me :)

Oh.. Also if I make any weird errors please forgive me.. I'm typing this on my iPad and it is such a pain -.- anyway thanks for reading :

-----EDIT------

After browsing through the forum I realized that the format of the application form have been changed!! So I would to say that the format is much better than before but there are still some flaws as it still did not test their understanding of this server rules! One od the question was "what is roleplaying?" this question for me is rather redundant and should be changed to something that can test player's understanding of the rules instead. The reason is because asking what is roleplaying is more of a general knowledge rather than asking if he/she can RP.. They should have know what is roleplaying in the first place before they decided to sign up

[1.] Communication :

The most important thing i think for an application is the ability to communicate their idea and their character in a well thought out and understandable manner. They should be able to communicate effectively with at least average spelling and grammar, although my personal preference would be perfect spelling and grammar. If they are unable to properly communicate in an effective way, then they would be more of a nuisance, even if they are an orc. I know i have seen a lot of the applications where they say their character can read and write proficiently when they themselves can not, which is impossible and makes no sense, if you can not do write in proper english yourself then you can not play a character that can.

[2.] Depth and Detail:

Depth and Detail I think would be another important aspect to applying to the server. In which i mean having a well thought out and well rounded bio and character. Giving great depth to their bio, and a good amount of detail to every answer. Anyone who is willing to take the time to answer every question with a full answer, even if it is merely a yes or no question, is willing to put in the effort to be an asset to the server, as opposed to just another person trying to get on the server doing just enough. I expect people to portray their character properly, in a realistic manner, although i would prefer someone only be able to do 2 maybe 3 main skills like mine and use a sword, but not everything, that does not make sense. Not everyone is able to do everything, and most people are only really skilled in one main area in true RP. A big thing i like to see is character flaws, those little nuances that makes the character different and specific. Every little thing that adds to the realism of the character, like quirks, pet peeves, and ticks, make every character more real.

[3.] Skin:

The skin of the player is another major part of the application, as is the first impression for anyone seeing the player in game. At the very least they should have an appropriate skin for the character even if they merely use a default one provided by the server. A player who takes the time to make his own skin, even if it does not look that appealing shows at least the effort to do what they are able to join the server and put forth their best effort to do so. Skins can also be edited to make them better, they can be bought in game or through the forums, but the important thing is that they have a skin that fits to their character and the lore of the server, dont need elmo running around Al'Khazaar looking for big bird.

[4.] Roleplay:

The understanding of how RP works and what it is. And by this i do not just mean can they answer the question, but can they not only answer the question with depth and true understanding of what it means to RP but also does their character description and bio show that they have such an understanding? For example one that i had seen before was of an abandoned mistreated disregarded and disowned orc who was left to rot in a room, and was then cast out into the street to be adopted by an illiterate farm hand, and yet the orc could not only read and write well, but was also able to use a sword well, mine and build. Which makes no sense in anyway, other than their dislike for farming. They need to be able to show that they know how to RP well and not just create a character description that will allow themselves to power-game, they also need to have an understanding for character development and proper goals for their character and what their character would actually want to do in life and what they would want out of life, avoiding such answers like "be rich and have lots of stuff". I like to see someone who has really thought their character out and knows who their character really is.

[5.] Format:

The final thing i think is most important on an application is format, and how they typed up their application. I find it very annoying seeing people who just copy and paste and make it so obvious that they do not even make the effort to remove the coding for the bold print areas. If they will not even take the time and effort to remove those why take the time to read it? I think people who do that among many other poor formatting of their applications, such as no spacing between question and answer and jumbling it all together just to get it done, do not really care and are just doing it to do it. People who will not take even 5 mins to make their application more presentable and reasonable do not deserve to enjoy the hours upon hours of enjoyment on the server.

Damn. Can we re-apply?

yes just edit your app and be sure to add that you are editing it, shift stated this on the first post.

I don't suppose we could have a teal 'The Application Team' Group if you are also a diamond VIP! That would be nice ^^

See, this is why I feel there should be two "groups", one standard group for members, GMs, etc; and a separate one indictated: VIP. This one would denote the VIP stature of a person whilst still knowing the forum occupation.

BTW my group has not been changed yet despite me being accepted!

and I haven't got the email!

Did you send him the email through PM as he requested?

If so, give it time, mine didn't get granted immediately.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Using the correct Format.

Now obviously this takes a big part in whether an application is accepted or denied, as it is no use someone using the villain application, in attempt to join the server. Now it’s not just using the incorrect format, it’s also using the text editor, in attempt to make your application seem unique to the marker. As I know that many people in the application team mark many applications and it almost seems they aren't fully impressed... As there is an editor waiting for someone to use. If someone decides not to use it, it will seem like any other application; therefore this lessens the chance of being accepted. I would also like to address when people use just a big wall of text, this in my opinion is not aiding your application in any possible way, as a wall of text... It's rather boring, its an eye sore, especially if the application isn't exactly brilliant... If you use walls of text, its just giving of an impression to the marker, that your organisation skills aren't exactly good... Although it may not be a huge requirement in RP, it's still nice to be organised IC and OOC...

When I do look at peoples applications, I wish to see... at least some attempt with the editor, I want it to be in paragraphs, a little colour will not hurt, as I want the applications to start being unique in appearance... I want to be able to see that someone is able to actually read "Please use this Format for your application"... It sounds a bit pathetic, to judge someone based on their application... But to be honest I think to myself, "If this person hasn't bothered to use the appropriate format, likely chances are... He probably hasn't bothered to read the lore either".

2. Effort put into the application.

I wish to point this out... Effort, in my opinion is a biggy... When I look at an application with the simple "Yes"... It tells me nothing, absolutely nothing. I like to think to myself I answer a question... "Yes, but is there a way by expanding by answer, so I am able to impress the marker...". I don't enjoy one word answers, even in school, I hate them... It shows that you have a lack of imagination, as it isn't hard to come up with an extra sentence or two, to at least show that you are able to enhance your answers and as you may all know, Roleplay is all about imagination, it's all about expressing your character in such a way, that you are able to understand his emotions at ALL TIME. And if you are unable to even extend your answers... Then in my opinion, you need to go play something else. I also look for spelling and grammar... I know my grammar isn't at its finest, however, I believe my spelling is immaculate on the forums... As I always like to keep my spelling at its peak, so I am able to give of a better impression. But as I was saying spelling and grammar is important, as it’s no use accepting someone, who will instantly say once they are whitelisted to another player, "Hail Do u no where human can go... I need money". Believe it or not, I have seen people using not just terrible grammar, but also using text slang in character... And if I'm honest, I think that is appalling... Under no circumstance, should someone use text slang in character... I don't mind it OOC'ly in game, but it's still better to give of a good impression to those around you.

Now when I look at someone’s applications, I want to see that they have spent more than 10 minutes on it... I want to see that they honestly do care about what they have wrote. If they get denied, I want them to think... "So what?!, I want to try... I want to keep trying till I am accepted, as I want to be part of the Lord of the Craft community". I know you have all heard the word persevering, but it's true, if a marker, keeps seeing you re-apply... ACTUALLY FIXING MISTAKES, and not just re-applying in hope that another marker will mark your app... Then they'll probably think, this guy really wants it... Although it is an important thing not be bias when marking apps... At least you are showing them that you are trying and not just being lazy with these 1 word answers. Lastly I want to see just by effort, that you are able to literally tear apart your character and be able to name each part of it, for example ripping out the brain and being able to say some of his memories... In my opinion, if you want to join Lord of the Craft, You've got to know your character, inside and out.

3. Realism

Ah, we reach a rather important aspect your character needs to have. Your character needs to be real, not confusing it with real life, but rather actually needs to be "in" with Lord of the crafts lore. I find it rather boring when a newcomer thinks they are able to just post, _____ is the son of the King... Well no... he isn't... If your new to the server... you are a nothing, as harsh as it sounds it's true. A new player needs to realise, that they need to achieve their rightful place in Aegis. If we could write applications saying that our character was this and that... Then Aegis would look... stupid. I also despise applications saying that their character has the ability to magic... Well if I'm honest, there is no way you can have magic in joining the server... Even RP magic, their character wasn't created with it... Far from it actually... To be able to use RP magic, your character has to undergo things that might aid him to finally achieve such magic... I also like to look at what has happened around him, as It aggravates me, when I see that some people believe that by writing that someone like Iblees visits them... (Example)... It really does, it not just shows the marker how stupid you look, but it also shows that you have no intelligence when it comes to the lore.

When I look at applications, I want to be able to see that you are able to pretty much pair up with your character and express his emotions... As if you are being hit by someone, don't just say "*squints at the pain". Because well... unless your character is a masochist, then... Pain is going to hurt... and it's going to hurt a lot. I just want to see if an application is consistent all the way through it... After all its like saying "1 day ____ had a fear of spiders..." then later on saying "The next day he put his hand in a spider nest... thus causing his fear to disappear"... It's not going to happen... Not many people on Earth... Can face their fears and be rid of them instantly...

4. Lore

Probably one of the most important factors when it comes to me looking at applications... I hate it... I despise it, when I see people... saying things like "____ grew up in a town called Koshmar" (or something)... It's not a place... It probably never will be... Lord of the craft, is above making up places... It angers me to read applications where they have made up areas... If you use made up areas... You are making yourself look a fool, as soon as they see a made up area, I believe it's an instant "Denied"... Why? You might be asking yourself... Well if you make up areas of the map... It's going to grow, like a lie... Soon they'll probably be making up races... However, IF... you do use actual areas in your application... Well you are making yourself, in my opinion, making yourself look quite intelligent when it comes to the lore. But it's not only areas that bother me... It more or less bothers me when you will write about how your character is from a different dimension... Let's get this clear... There is only Aegis... And guess what, if you are from a different dimension... And you are suddenly, over 1230 years old... Well, that purely just shows how you probably lack intelligence, not just when it comes to lore, but probably in real life too...

I apologise for my anger during the previous paragraph, however Lore is a really important thing in my opinion. But when I look at applications, I want to see that you are able to speak about the lore, without stopping... I want you to be able to name places as fast as a click of your finger. If you are able to do that and actually show you have bothered to read the lore on the wiki... Well I think you are well on your way to being accepted.

5. Definition of RP

Another important thing in RP... People may not believe it... but that question about Roleplay, that is a good load of marks on your application. If you can define RP, like what is the point of it, what is it, etc... Then in my opinion, you are going to get somewhere... Believe it when I say that knowing the definition, will prove to the marker that you have intelligence about RP... It's no use saying things like "I have played World of Warcraft, fallout, the elder scrolls etc"... As they are Roleplaying games... But, when was the last time you played WoW and actually took your characters emotions into play... LotC, takes Roleplaying MUCH, MUCH more seriously that WoW... We take on metagaming, powergaming... And if you commit one of them types of "gaming"... It's a bannable offence and it does annoy the heck out of people.

When I read an application I want to be able to see that you are able to express your RP'ing skills not just in the question, but also in the Bio, I will get a good impression if I am honest.

Last thing I'd enjoy to see:

Extra things, that are not in the appropriate format.

If you are able to add something else that is extra and is not required, although it will not matter when it comes to what the marker has to mark... It is letting of that you are trying really hard for this application and you hope to get accepted.

Why should I be accepted?

If I'm honest, I believe I should be accepted because I feel, that I have been part of the community for a long time... The 10th of August to be exact... And I have been on pretty much everyday since... Yet I feel I haven't helped out much... Yes I'm a bedrock donator, however... I do feel like I could do a lot more. So I would love to become a part of the application team because... I just want to help out, I know it's a stressful job as you are giving hints yet they still don't understand what is wrong... But I want to be there to help out... That's about all I have to say Thank you :)

Extra Comments: I just want to thank you for taking your time to even read my application. If I am honest it would be a honour to mark applications of those who wish to join the Lord of The Craft community... As it is always nice to have newcomers who know what they are doing.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1.The Bio

The Bio gives you a peak at how you are good at roleplaying or not if they can make a good Bio they are probabably good Roleplayers

2.The Grammar

i would not accept an application that would have a bad grammar or use Leet Speak

3.Good Skin

That they have a skin that fits the character not a Orc with a Dwarf skin

4.Know the rules and the lore

i would not accept a application if he has not read the rules or/and the lore

5.that they anwser all questions

i would not accept an application if he does not anwser all the questions

Other:I want to be in the Application Team because i love this server and want to help the GM's and FM's with all the applications.I know what applications to add because i made 10 applications and know when i look at the first 9 i see why i got denied

Well i hope i get accepted and if i dont wish luck to everyone else that wants to be in the Application Team

Holy **** that is 20x better than mine. I love when people put in extra effort they don't need to.

Please don't quote the whole thing, it clutters up the page.
