Just out of interest, how do we find out if we've been accepted or rejected? PM or just from the list on the OP?

The top five things that are important in a application are:

1) The definition of roleplaying:

People usually mistake roleplaying with somthing else. It's either talking Old English or playing an RPG game. I think that they need think the termin through and fully understand what it actually means. I've seen lots of bad roleplayers, reading nameplates and such, and I think they shouldn't be on the server in the first place.

Most people don't actually roleplay, but grind on the server, that's a bad example of roleplaying and is commonly mistaken for a MMORPG.

If they can't explain the definiton of roleplaying right, then I suggest them not playing on this amazing server until they get it right, this server needs only the good players that would suport the server itself.

2) The Layout:

The application needs work and proper format. It shows that the person put effort into his application and is actually worthy to join the server. I also support applications that have good grammar and are easy to read. The questions shouldn't be answered with a single word, they should use sentences to explain their answers. The person should read his application through a few times to make sure he hasn't forgotten to write anything.

They should have a decent skin that fits the lore and timeline. I don't want to see skins like hooded skater kids with hoods etc. The skin link has to be working or else I'd deny the application.

3) Biography:

The biography is the most important part of an application. The biography indicates if the player is a good roleplayer or not. I think the biography takes the biggest part in the roleplaying aspect, which would increase the chance of approval.

I'd also like to see some lore put into the biography. The person should know who the four races are and what's their architecture and culture etc. It shows that the person is willing to take a part of the Aegian lore.

Characters.

Most of the characters on the server are overpowered, and I have never liked that. I've seen characters who has got diamond skin etc. No character in Aegis should start as a king, they start like everybody else, a common person with a few hundred minas. They need to work their way up on the server in order to become high. They are usually called Mary Sues which can be found here:

How not to make a Mary Sue/Gary Stu

I don't like seeing characters like this popping up, I think that they need to be balanced. They need their own flaws, not every character can mine, fight,

4) Grammar:

It's not critical, but suggested.

I know that nobody is perfect and anyone could make a grammatical error at times, but it shouldn't be THAT bad. Even I have English as a second language, but I'm still pretty good at it.

People that have good grammar make the server seem more professional and organized. If a player has good grammar, it's pleasing to the eyes and it's much more enjoyable to play with him/her. Good grammar can also express the character's emotions ingame. It gives you a first impression of the person and his/her maturity in general.

I don't like seeing people talk like this on the server:

"stop your arrested"

It's very sad if you come by players like this ingame, and most likely you'd not want to even roleplay with them.

5) Red the rules?:

Before joining anything, doesn't matter what, you need to understand the rules. I wouldn't accept people who doesn't know the rules, it would be a pain for the GMs to handle. Back in the day, I've seen lots of metagamers, powergamers and griefers. They all got banned, because they hadn't red the rules and said that it's their first time and they are getting used to the server. They'd get used to it much faster by taking their time to read the rules!

-Thanks for your time and good luck to everyone.

I will edit this later, I'm in a hurry.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

Biography- To make a good biography, you have to be a pretty good writer. I think writing influences RP and we don't want any people on the server that aren't good RPers! But it also proves that you can think of creative ideas for your character, not just,"My parents were raided by orcs."

Definition of Roleplay- Totally self explanatory, but I'll explain it anyways. This is a roleplay server, you have to know what roleplaying is!

Grammar- If somebody shows horrible grammar, you can guess they're not very committed to getting in. They probably did it in a rush job, and we don't want uncommitted people joining!

Good Grip on English Language- If English is hard for people to write, it will be hard for people to read. I think they should have an excellent grip on it in fact, so they can type and interpret it fast.

Read and Understood Rules- Rules are what keep everything (in game and out) under control. You NEED to know the rules if you want to join the server!!!

Hopefully it gets accepted, if its not I'll be redoing it =P

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an Application and why?

1. Biography.

I would say the biography is the most important part of the application, of the 5 things that I will list here. The biography itself, can tell you if a person is willing to put the time in to write a good application. A good application would include; a neat format, story detail, and good grammar/punctuation.

2. Describe Meta/Power gaming.

This is VERY important, because we can't have new people running around, not knowing what these things are. This gives the application reviewer a clear idea; Does this person know what these mean, or not?

3. What do you know about roleplaying, what is it?

If a person does not know how to roleplay, they should not start roleplaying on this server to begin with. This server has some of the finest RP-er's I've ever encountered, and I hate when first-timers run around and make simple mistakes, like ooc talking without [[ ]], or saying things like "thx" or "g2g" while in character. They should go try out some Roleplaying Xbox games or something, just to get the main idea.

4. What other servers have you played on, and why did you leave them?

This too can be a major factor in somebody's application. If the person has been banned from 2 previous servers for fly-hacking or griefing, we do not want him/her on this server, period. Also, if the person had been a moderator of sorts for another popular server, they may have a better chance of getting accepted.

5. Good Grammar/Punctuation/Format

I cannot stand applications that are jumbled, different pieces of information all over the place, making it hard to read. If somebody really wants to join, they will use a neat format, and proper font sizes to display their application, making it appealing for the reviewer to look over and read.

I re-did my app. I didn't feel the one I had done was good enough...

Minecraft name: MY IGN is DanielJamieson97 and my Roleplay name is Servius Magdu.

Forum name: Danny (Servius)

Top 5 things in an Application:

In brief:

a) - Knowledge of what roleplay is, and how to roleplay, without it you have no place on

LotC, as this is a roleplay server.

b) - Having a good understanding of what Powergaming and Meta-gaming are is essentials to

an application, without them it's pretty much an instant rejection.

c) - A skin that suits their character, and that fits with the roleplay enviroment, you

can't have people with Star Wars skin etc.

d) - A good backstory, something believable, and not over the top and lore breaking. You

character also shouldn't be powergamed, and I don't think you should start out

as a prince, or princess etc.

e) - That the application is "formatted" well, and neatly. That it has proper grammar etc, and not text speech, which just doesn't fit in with the server. A well written, formatted, and spelt application is the best kind of application.

In "Fullness":

a) - The applicant must know what roleplay is, and give a decent description of it, not something along the lines of "Playing someone else", but "Acting, and living as you character. Being in the mind of your character at all times". That's what I'd expect to be on a perfect application.

I think that someone knowing what roleplay is, and how to do it, is one of the most important parts of the application. It's so vital to the way the server runs, and that it's fun for those good roleplayers out there! If someone doesn't have any idea what roleplay is, then it is an instant rejection. Why would they get a place on a dedicated, popular, and amazing roleplay server if they have no idea what roleplay is?

b) - In Question 9 of the OOC part of the form, "In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are.", they should explain what in their eyes powergaming and metagaming are, not just reading someone else's app, and saying the same thing. They should point out the difference between them also.

A unique view on powergaming and meta-gaming is one of the best things I see on apps, well, not unique, but at least well phrased, and as I said above, not a duplicate of another persons idea on the matters.

c) - Having a "Star-Trek" skin on Lord of the Craft breaks roleplay, and lore, so it isn't acceptable. I'd say that a good skin, is one of the most important parts of roleplay, because it's what other players see, and what they remember about you.

Skins that suit your character are what are needed, you can hardly have a Elven Skin with beach blond hair, and deep blue eyes, if your character is a black haired human, with a deep scar rolling down his face. Your skin needs to be like your character is, show any illness, disease, age and other features.

Custom skins are the best for someone to use as they, in themselves are totally unique! I don't like people who just find a skin on PlanetMinecraft, and use it without any personalisation added to it for their character. Fair enough get a skin from PlanetMinecraft, but at least change it to suit your character. Otherwise, your ruining the experience for others, and yourself, and you also appear lazy. Even if you aren't good with GIMP or Photoshop, there's some very talented artists in the graphics section, who make skins for free.

d) - I also think that a player MUST have a good, and original backstory. Nothing bland like "My mum died when I was 1 and my dad raised me alone. I had a bad childhood", instead go in-depth about it: "My mother died whilst giving birth to me. When she died, my father lost a lot of his money, and we struggled for a long time. My childhood was rough, because of this, and its reflected on the way I act, I'm rougher than most people, and a lot less decent". Having a backstory, that shows the person has read the wiki for lore is also an extra "Brownie Point", as it shows they actually have put some effort into their application, instead of just thinking it up on the spot.

I love bio's that are really in-depth, and describe the players character in a unique, and well written way. Some people may not be good writers, but they can still do a really good job of writing bio's because of the depthness they put into it.

I read a lot of people's applications, just to check people's biographys. I love a good read, especially on people's apps, as it's different to reading a novel. It's something someones written, just for the server, and that makes it a step better.

e) - In order to be accepted onto the server an application can't be written in text talk (e.g. "my chars mum dyd whn he was young. dad raised him alone. lol."). It needs to be written properly, because having people roleplaying in text talk isn't right, it makes the game less fun for those who do type properly. So, the former application should be changed to. "Lucinius' Mother passed away when he was at a very young age, his father struggled to raise him alone. It was a hard time, but it was rather funny for Lucinius, as he was a young child, he didn't understand the severity of death."

I also think that grammar is very important in any application, the use of commas, fullstops and apostrophes are required to make the application look even better written. Short app's with one word answers, and no punctuation aren't the right material to get onto the server. It isn't what people want to read when they're roleplaying.

Comment / Other Info: I'd like to be a member of the application team, because I want to help out Game-Masters and those who are in the application team, and also, I want to help those who apply to the server. I spend quite a lot of time, reading through server applications, and thinking whether I'd accept them or not. I'd also just like to put a litte example, of an application I'd reject, and the way I'd do so, (hope this is alright, D:)

Other Information: I hope get accepted I love this server!

I'd deny this application, because of the following.

Reason One - He's clearly not checked the app before posting, as the [ b ][ /b ] tags are clearly mucked up, and even once posted it is clear to tell that it needs to be edited

Reason Two - The "What do you know about roleplaying" question, is very distant. He doesn't explain roleplaying at all pretty much. He just says "It's removing yourself from life, and becoming something else entirely." I'd suggest he goes into more depth about what he thinks roleplaying is.

Reason Three - His answer to Metagaming, is in-complete and only brushes a small part of what Metagaming is. He needs to explain a bit more, about how it isn't just saying someones Minecraft name. It's using OOC information, from any source, and applying it in character. His idea of Powergaming is off as well, as he doesn't explain that powergaming is when you do something that your character wouldn't be able to do, e.g. Sawing through iron bars with bare wrists.

Reason Four - He didn't vote on Planet Minecraft, I'd say this isn't major, but it is stil one of the instructions you are given, whislt you are applying.

Reason Five - His Bio isn't very Roleplay-ish. It looks like somethign a nine year old would write (No Offence to the writer). It's very distant, and doesn't describe his character in any depthness.

Reason Six - His screenshot link doesnt work! :3

A couple of good things about his application are mainly, that he at least has read up on the lore a bit as he states "...going out wandering on the forests near oren and fishing.".

Obviously, I wouldn't word my reply like this, it'd be more directed towards him.

Finally, I hope I get accepted, I know I've not been on the server for ages, but I believe I'm mature enough to be part of the team, and I hope that the example above at least will show that I can tell a decent app from an un-decent one!

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

[1]: I believe the most important thing in an application is to get your facts right. By this I mean that your application has to apply to the lore and show that you understand the lore of Aegis fully and correctly. Also if a person says that they were born into a poor family and have been poor ever since and later they say they wear fancy clothing then they are contradicting what they have already said.

[2]: The second most important thing in an application i believe is that a persons character has to be balanced. If a person says they can read and write, fight with a sword, farm and build this is also wrong as they are not the chosen one so should try to create a balanced character.

[3]: The third most important part of an application i believe is that a persons biography should be long enough the give the assessor a good understanding of their character. If a person writes a 3 line long biography this would be unacceptable. if somebody wrote 5 lines and they were full of detail about their character this would be borderline acceptable. If somebody wrote 20 lines of nonsense this would also be unacceptable as it does not give me a good view of the character.

[4]: Another important thing in an application is their grammar. If a person writes an application with bad grammar so i cannot understand what they are saying i would refuse it straight away. Although if a person writes a application with alright but not great grammar i would warn them about it but give them a chance to correct their app. If a person just misses the odd capital i would just let it slide. Good grammar in an application gives me the a good first impression of the person as if they have terrible grammar in their app, it shows they are not going to be bothered about their grammar in game.

[5]: The final thing that i think an application needs is experience with Rp. To play this server a person will have to know basic Rp. If a person makes an application to a RP server without researching Rp, it shows a lack of commitment and effort. I also believe if a person has no experience with Rp they should have to think about what Rp really is about and if they really know what it involves. Due to this i believe this section of the application requires about 3-5 lines of good detailed information.

Extra Information:

I may be fairly new to this server but i have had a lot of experience with minecraft and forum moderation. I have played many servers before where i have had a role of power and have had previous experience with dealing with applications. I see you have a lack of people in the Application team and are looking for more to increase your waiting time for members. I would be on nearly every night(except when i am busy, maybe once every 2 weeks) and with christmas coming up ill be on even more. I enjoy doing things like this and i think i am suited to the role. Some people may see it as a chore but i see it more as a hobby and i would be happy to read applications every night.

Top 5 most important things about a server application:

POTENTIAL: I want to people to actually be someone. I don't want an average joe that nobody has ever heard of roaming the streets of aegis. I want to accept the new king of Oren, or the next great guild leader. I want each and evey member to be able to significantly change aegis for the better. All of this being kept with in reason however.

LIABILITY: After reveiwing some apps to decide weather I would be up for the job of an applicant member I noticed a few irritating trends. Many people seem to dirasticaly over sell themselves. When I see someone who claims to be a respective employee of Microsoft and can't figure out how to post a screenshot of his skin, i can hardly believe he's applying for the server. All applicants should write their apps as they would respond naturally in the community. Someone who is trustworthy and respectful.

EFFORT: I relize there are those of us who are a bit better at wording things than others, however if they aren't giving it their all, they shouldn't be putting any effort into it period. Applicants should have an ideology that coincides with that of our community. They should be putting their heart and soul into every moment of rp, and every word of their application. The application needs to be complete and have a well rounded character bio.

UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT EXACTLY LOTC IS: The community here at lotc is truly unique. Each and every member is stands out and are able to through themselves into unmatched rp. This is not a server to come on every now and then to have a little bit of amusing imagination time. Members of the community need to fully understand how to rp, and what all it involves. Applicants should also have a full understand of the rules! I do not want to accept someone and see complaints about them because they are "new and didn't quite get the rules". They are there for a reason and serve as a mandatory ultimatum.

PERSONALITY: Members that are new to the community should be active and enjoyable to be around! They might be the best role player in the world, but can have a highly duragitory or non contributional ooc personality. I want them to have a great time and rp to their hearts content, but I also want to see that they are capable of aiding those around them! I want their coming to aegis to not only benefit themselves but others as well!
