Proof reading: I would like to see a crisp application, flawless, or, with as little flaws as possible. By proof reading, a messy, unorganized application can be transformed into something that will WOW the reader. This will tell me that the applicant has put time, thought and effort into their application, it shows me that they care about what their application looks like. This may go without saying, but the amount of applications I have read with spelling mistakes, errors, skin links broken, astounds me. Just by seeing a nicely presented application I will be intrigued.

EFFORT: As stated above, I enjoy reading applications with effort put into them. This can be reflected by the way they answer the question section, for example, 'Are you a capable builder' answered with 'yes' is just too brief. I want an explanation, WHY are they a good builder, is there anything written in the biography that backs this up? This isn't a compulsory thing for me, but I'll want to be wowed with something like: 'I was taught to build by my father, this kept us from staying in the cold, this protected us from harm. My building came handy as one day...' Of course, if the biography tells me that the applicants character hates building, or something along the lines of that, and then says that they can build in the question section, well, they'll have to rethink their character. Effort is one of the key things for me, if they put in a lot of effort, it means that they really want to join this server.

Realism: This, for me, is something I have encountered many times. I have seen many apps which just baffle me how little the applicant knows of the lore. Characters that 'Landed on Aegis from space' Is just TOO unrealistic, I want originality, however, I don't want plain unrealistic. I think I speak for the rest of The Lord Of The Craft community when I say I don't want to encounter, in roleplay, a character who can just pop out a gun or, suddenly vanish. Realism is a big thing for me, I don't want to lay down the rules saying 'You can't do this' 'You can't do that'. However, I just couldn't accept anything like this. I will look out for flaws in the character, as, hey, no-ones perfect. Who would want to roleplay with someone who is great at everything, wins every battle, is the best farmer, miner etc. So, overall, I will be looking for a character who sticks to the lore, is realistic, and has a few flaws.

Definition of Roleplay: Okay, this is a roleplaying server, but I have seen a LOT of applicants who poorly describe the term 'RolePlay'. Okay- They might not have even heard of the term Roleplay, so, why are they applying? Many times I have played LordOfTheCraft I have seen poor roleplayers. Some talking OOC a lot; Some calling characters by their players names. Some of these players have probably been warned about talking OOC, but, why not stop them in their application, to prevent these sort of players from joining. I will be looking for a clear, well defined definition, then, backed up by an outstanding application. This is a biggie for me. It may not seem much to some applicants, but if you really want to be part of the LordOfTheCraft experience, a great definition is a great head start. I do understand that the definition wont reflect whether the applicant is a good roleplayer or not, but, hopefully it will cap off those who have a poor definition.

A good grip on the English language: This, for me, is not the biggest thing I'll be looking for, but it does tell me if the applicant is ready enough for this server. I will allow the odd slip up, as we're only human; we all make mistakes. I'll be looking for the applicants who have every other word spelled wrong. This will tell me if the player has adapted to the English language well enough or not. It may sound strict, but players who spell so many words wrong and/or use slang, will ruin the experience for other players as they strain to read what the player has just said to them. Also, if the applicant speaks like 'yer' 'init' on purpose, I will ask them to re-read and change their application on the grammar part.

OVERALL: I will be looking for a fresh, not cleche application, which has had effort and care put into it. I want the applicant to be critical with what they write, I want the applicant to understand what they are writing. Realistic characters will get my approval, good grammar will get my approval, however, this will count as nothing if the bio itself isn't up to scratch.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1] Spelling and Grammar

Whilst it does not take as much effort as some of the other areas of the application, it is usually the first thing that one notices when reading through an application. If spelling and grammar is of a high quality, then it shows that the individual has checked the application, instead of simply posting it. Even simply feeding the application through a spell checker shows that the applicant is willing to make some extra effort.

This also encompasses the answer to the question regarding the applicant's grasp of the English language. If the answer to that question is contradictory to the grammar shown within the application, then it shows immaturity.

2] Biography

As this is a rather lengthy field, I shall split my answer into two parts.

I] Knowledge of the lore

Showing knowledge of the lore is a good characteristic of an application, as it shows that the applicant has bothered to read through the approved lore, such as that on the wiki. Again, this is a sign that the individual is willing to put in extra effort, as well as showing maturity. Conversely, somebody whose application directly contradicts commonly known lore, then it shows that they have not taken the time to read over the wiki. However, people who use information from the wiki that is obsolete should not be penalised for this. Lack of knowledge of the lore also includes having parents killed by Orcs, as this is unoriginal.

II] Powergaming

There is a slight overlap between these sections, but powergaming is an important factor. Should somebody claim to be related to Iblees, for example (as I noticed in an app I read through), then they are almost certain to be denied. On the other hand, a well considered character with strengths and weaknesses is more likely to be accepted.

3] Favourite and least favourite laws

When somebody replies to the law question with their least favourite law being "no griefing", then it is a sign that they are not mature enough to join the server, and the kinds of applications that state that law as their least favourite are often the type with four sentence biographies, or biographies stuffed full of powergaming and contradictions to the lore.

4] Short character ability questions

The answers to these can often say quite a lot about the player who has written the application. Should the answer to all four of the questions simply be "yes", with no qualifiers or grammar, then the player is often likely to misunderstand attributes that characters should have. No character should be a master of all trades. On the other hand, if a character has ability in one or two skills, and limited or no ability in the others, then it shows that the writer of the application has considered how they can balance their character.

5] Character personality/ambitions

The answer to this can make or break an application. Simple, one word answers are again a sign of immaturity and lack of commitment to the server. Conversely, long, detailed and logical answers are a sign that the applicant is willing to make an effort on the server (having gone to so much trouble just to get in).

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Biography

This is where the main story of the character is. If they have a good backstory, know what their character wants and needs are, and if he has a vague idea of what is going to become of his character, then it is usually a sign of a good Rp'er. Another thing I look for in the biogrophy, is if they have read the lore. When I see people who right about a lore that never existed, I would rarely, if ever, accept them.

2. Grammar

If there is someone who does not use capital letters, full stops, commas, or not spelling correctly, or anything to do with Grammar, I would look at them, and give them a big, fat NO. I really am sick of people wandering around this beatiful server, and people saying "Hey, wer can i find the ork town??? i cannot find it lolol.

3. What is your character good at questions

If people merely answer this with 'Yes, yes yes, and...yes' Then, it shows that they think that their character would be the greatest person in the world of Aegis. It simply isn't like that. Even in real life, people were never perfect. They all had weaknesses. Why should your character be different?

4. Least Favourite laws?

When someone answers 'No griefing' to me, it says 'Well, I like to destroy things, and sadly, this server doesn't let me. Well...guess I will still try!" No...I really do not want people like that in our server. And I am pretty sure the players wouldn't be too happy if they found their house destroyed, no RP.

5. Actual new applications

I will not deny someone for making their parents killed by Orks, but honestly. How many times have I read that? Too many, and I am a mere forum traveller. If I had to look at all those applications...Whew, that would be alot of work. I would look for new and fresh ideas. People whose parents went insane, and they sometimes see them, well...quite frankly, that is alot more interesting.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

SimplePancake

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

Creativity

Bland, uninteresting, shallow applications that usually stem from parents being murdered, orcs raiding the towns, making the last child a vigilante on the first day of the server is incredibly boring, and the character is unable to progress itself. I would bend the rules abit to non existent towns if the app made sense, like runnin away from a tyrant back home. Biography would fall under the creativity area, as it shows how much a person has spent and the quality of their imaginations.

Grammar and spelling

I wasn't born english, so I can understand a few people might have some slips of grammar and spelling, but when its blatantly obvious that he/she has a mistake every 5 words, no effort was placed into the application at all. Not to mention it will seriously aggravate players they encounter with very bad spelling and grammar.

Gary Stu/Mary Stu

Characters that are perfect, without flaws, is a boring character. Provides no advancement rp wise, as he/she knows everything there is to know. And farmers who can wield a sword like a Knight? Ehh, not great. I would love to see some character flaws, like being vain, mean, snobby. We are after all, human. And back in the medieval ages, being rude and disrespectful was more common. Besides, it creates conflict, which creates rp. Also gives established characters a way to pass on learning of their trades.(credits to Urara for coining the term)

Rules

Powergaming, fly hacking(I can honestly not get why people even think its ok to fly hack...), non rp killing happens all too often with new players, then the apologizing earnestly because "he didn't now, he was new, give him a second chance" just doesn't cut it. If I see a player I accepted was banned because he didn't read the rules and posted a ban appeal, I'm going to go through my content and link his application on the thread, highlighting the part "Have you read the rules". GMs already have so much to deal with, they dont need rulebreakers who never read the rule in the first place.

Lore

Even though I said earlier I might accept non-existent towns if the stories are really well written, it's always wonderful to see that the applicant is doing his homework, and reading through our incredibly outdated but still valid, lore and history. It makes them already feel part of Aegis, and able to communicate with veteran players easily.

On a side note: I live in GMT+11, is very blunt, and spends more time on the forums over being in LOTC(weird, but true). It would be a honour to join the application team.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Biogrpahy First thing is, is there biography because it would help to express there character a bit more and it would tell people what kind of person you are and what you are involved in. And it would be useful to us, to see if it fits in the lore and to see if they have the read the lore carefully.

2. What do you know about Role Playing? Well this is obvious, because if they are applying for a Role Play server, they would have a brief understanding what Role Play actually is, unless your applying to grief?

3. Grammer This is important to me because this would prove how much time they have spent on the application and then I'l know if they are actually trying and if there really determined to get accepted.

4. Presentation This would prove to me that there trying hard to make it look neat and there are putting as much effort into it as possible which explains how much they want to be approved.

5. Realistic This tells me if they have read the lore because there could be talking about spaceships than knights and elves, believe me, you don't want people wondering around Ageis shouting "Wheres the Aliens".

And if you include all of these things you will be

Note

I'm around the forums about 4-6 hours a day and I love helping people solve their problems with computer issues or questions they would like to ask however I would really appreciate to be on the application team. I really love helping the community by creating skins for people and I actually spend 10 minutes everyday reading server applications, villain application because it really helps me to and I learn a lot from that. I am currently creating skins for anyone who is needed because I love making Ageis adorable and the forums, of course. So you know, I would be happy to help out on villain applications.

Thanks For Your Time

I hope I make It!
