What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Biography:

They need to show they know how to roleplay, as well as make things up on the spot. They need to show this isn't a quick attempt to get on the server, they need to show dedication and show they have planned this out. It needs to be clear they have read the lore, thought about it, and plan to use it in their rp. Showing they explored the forums a fair amount, possibly talking about guilds, or current ideas and events. This really helps and helps people who haven't rp ed before, so the biography is a huge part.

2. Have you read the lore and rules?

"Yes and I agree with it all."

Is not an answer. First off, you can tell right away who has actually read it and who hasn't. Like, in ambitions people say they want to be a bad guy, or a crazy killer, but they haven't even researched that you need a villain app!!!! The rules are a big part, and there is a couple of rules that people wouldn't think that are there. We can't have them go around breaking rules, getting banned, and pissed of at the server, then changing how people think about the server. When people really read the rules they can incorporate, it into all of their application and show they do understand roleplay.

3. Do you know what meta and powergaming is (from Chevalier's app format)

I think is a very important part because this is a huge problem for people coming into this server, and people playing this server. They just don't understand rp and, well, that's the whole point of the server.......knowing how to rp well is a HUGE part of what is needed to play, and I understand if they never have rp ed before, I haven't before this server either, but they could do a bit of research and think about it. They needed to know these terms, because everyone forgets to rp to the max sometimes, but everyone is really good to remind you, however if you don't know what they are..... They will never learn how to real rp, and that won't help the server.

4. Grammar

It is different if it is on purpose, and I get that people make mistakes but the majority of it needs to be correct. They need to show that they can communicate with others in English, and do it well. However they can incorporate the sort of language their chosen race uses, it shows they really have read the rules, lore and understand roleplay. The formatting needs to be organized, and correct, as well. They can't just write random things, for we all know what sort of player those are.....

5: Skin

I know it is easy to change, and most people wouldn't conceder it, but I think it represents how the person plans to play on this server. If it is a server for when their board, or they plan to get really into it. You can tell from the website, how hard they really tried to look for it, and how hard they plan to roleplay!

Others:

I really want to help people get accepted, and I hate when people just say "denied". I am a very logical person and hope to help shape the roleplayers I rp with. It's really big to see how much they rp, the rest all comes second. I hope I can start soon and would do about at LEAST 5-10 apps a day. I love the creative things people come up with, and hope to teach them, as well as learn about rp and so many other things. As for the learn, everyone can learn something from everyone, if you just try!

Thanks for taking the time to read!!!!

Please leave comments or sugestions! I would love to here feedback!

Thanks!

Top 5 things:

1. Their idea of what Roleplay is:

Considering that this is one of the best RP servers. Roleplay plays a VERY big role in how the server works. How they interact and act in-game must always reflect their character to help enhance the RP for everyone they encounter, and more importantly how they understand proper roleplay. Not just adding a "th" at the end of every word to sound midieval like " Howth is your aleth" (Exagerated line).

2. Biography:

How have they made their characters biography. I always browse thru various apps in my free time normally checking their bios and such looking for signs on Mary Sue's such as "the most legendary warrior in Aegis" or someone saying they are the chosen one or like the main hero, or something along those lines anyways and does their character fit the lore unless they supposedly have their own RP religion.

3: Their grammar and grip on the english language:

Considering that majority of the entire player base all speak English it is very important to pretty much the whole community to be able to speak and write at least a good chunk of the language. However for players who are probably from a country that doesn't use English much it is understandable for some grammar problems. But for like someone who roleplays as a Orc then in-character grammar problems are acceptable.

4:If they understood the rules:

If they understood this servers various rules and regulations. To help maintain the fun for all players, and that they understand on how serious breaking some rules are such as Flyhacking(causes lag, wandering souls not excepted), no-RP kills(1 liners included) and OOC insulting( insulting someone out-of-character which is no longer and RP as it now turns into bullying)

5:The effort put into the app:

If they actually tried making the app well and not simply making a bio that might be about 5 sentences only and how they answered some of the questions in the app whether they actual explained some of their answers or just said a simple yes or no.

Hope I get accepted been wanting to find another way to help the playerbase.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

(1) - The Bio

I believe the bio is the most important part of a Application. This in itself can say whether they know Role-play, Lore, and the Realistic way of the server. It can show how they’re format is and whether or not they care of joining the server. It allows the reviewer to see if the person applying is creative and, keep within the boundaries of the server, be able to play using the rules of the server. The bio also shows grammar of the person applying, spelling, and not using LOL or any of the internet speech.

Say this was a small example: “As (name here) walks through the forest, he spots a shadow. He continues to walk, cautiously, knowing there is someone watching over him. From above the shadow drops onto him. He hit’s the shadow with his fire fist spell and sprints at the shadow with amazing speed. Being a gnome he knows how to craft much mechanics!”. Reading forward you would think this might start off to be good then he erupts with his amazing “magic” and can sprint faster then anyone else. He also knows not of the lore if he is a gnome, as there is not such a race. Also, he doesn’t know how to make mechanics based on race, this applier gets a deny.

(2) - Effort and The will to spend time on their application

This one is up there due to the dedication we expect from most people on the server. Say if their bio was bunched up, lacking grammar, and was too short. This person might just want to get on to play around and do whatever he/she wants to do. Also, the more time spent would make for a better application in the first place. If someone has done it in 15 minutes then it might not be close enough to get accepted. Most likely to be denied are the ones who do not spend enough time on their application and not actually trying to impress.

(3) - Have you read, understood, and agreed to abide by the rules?

Without agreeing to the rules how is one to follow them? By accepting the rules they are simply there avoiding getting denied.

(4) - Realistic Character

This is needed in order to make balance between everyone. If there were people running around with amazing powers and superhuman strength then they would overpower everyone else. Everyone on the server needs to be evened out. The point is to adapt and grow from the point you enter the server not to enter being powerful and strong. By doing this they not only abide by the rules but they also may be opening much role-play opportunities up such as maybe training to become a shaman of Krugmar instead of already knowing how to be one, you get trained by another.

(5) - What do you know about role-playing?

By answering this they simply tell the reader if they really do know what role-playing is and whether they can do so. If someone were to say something like, “I know that it is learning magic and trying to become strong enough to crush your enemies.”, this is someone who wants to simply become powerful and strong to rule over, which probably won’t happen without the Accept mark. Someone saying, “I realize that it is looking through the eyes of the character you play, being as if you only know what they know, acting as if you ARE the character.”, Might be a better fit for the server then the person who wants to rule over everyone with “magic” and amazing strength.

Additional - These are all equal but if having to list them this would be as such the order I would place them in.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Understanding of Roleplaying and Laws

"What do you know about Roleplaying? What is it?" Much like how firefighters don't run into burning buildings without being properly trained, no one should run into Aegis before understanding what roleplaying really means. LotC is, after all, an RP-oriented server, and merely knowing how to play Minecraft does not mean knowing how to play LotC. They should know what meta- and powergaming means, why they are not allowed, and what roleplaying entails. In addition, the applicant should be aware that they are giving up parts of the Minecraft experience for the sake of roleplay. Their character should not able to do all of these: farm, fish, cook, AND swing a diamond sword around. An understanding of roleplaying and laws ensures that LotC is enjoyable for everyone and stays a strictly RP environment.

2. Biography

The biography is truly the "do or die" of the application process. One of the many things the applicant can display here is his/her understanding of Lore and ability to immerse his/herself into a strange new world. This immersion is a vital part of roleplaying, and has to show that the applicant has done some research on the world they are entering. The biography should also be complete and has to include all of the parts that make up a character: history, age, appearance, personality, and even further. It's important to portray a realistic character whose traits, from race to personality, not only display coherence but also leave room for development.

3. Unique Contribution to LotC

Aegis started out as a blank slate, and each player's small or big contribution has enabled LotC to grow as big as it is today. That being said, applicants should have an idea of how their presence will add to Aegis. Will their character be just another dumb orc, or will he/she be a dumb orc who collects dolls because a con-man once claimed that dolls could come alive and do the orc's bidding in his slumber? Special or odd talents are always nice to see. One should not go overboard with uniqueness, however, as the character requires balance. All traits, beliefs, and talents should be within reason, else the character risks powergaming or absurdity.

4. Answer to Scenarios

It's great to see response to scenarios added to the application, because they give the applicant a taste of what they will be experiencing Aegis, along with testing their understanding of LotC laws. These responses should reflect the character's personalities and abilities, and be free of power/metagaming. If something villainous happens, the application reviewer has a chance to point out that villanous behaviors require a villain app and to ask them to read the rules over once more.

5. Effort

All questions on the application are asked for a reason, and the applicant each should be answered in a thorough fashion with correct grammar and format. Effort not only shows the applicant's enthusiasm for the server, but also reflects how the player will act ingame. Good grammar, for example, is vital for interaction with others in Aegis, so it's wonderful to see someone taking those extra five minutes to capitalize their I's and punctuate properly. That doesn't mean people who do not have an amazing grasp on the English language should be barred from the server, however, because many do not. If an application has horrendous grammar, but otherwise fulfills the critical requirements, it should still be considered seriously if the applicant takes the time to edit to perfection and reapply. This receptiveness to criticism shows a willingness to learn and improve. Overall, there should be clear indication through an applicant's effort that he/she really does want to be a part of this wonderful community.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? I think that having only 5 limits it too much as I can think of many things I would look for. However, my top 5 would be as follows:

1. The questions that asks if your character can mine, read, write, farm, wield a sword.

I believe these questions determine in a way like few others how that person will really RP on the server. If they say that they can do all of these things (like most people do) they do not fully understand the idea of ROLE-playing. As in role-laying your character can not do every single thing and enjoy it in the whole world.

2.The Biography

The biography also provides a look into how that person can RP. In the biography people choose who their parents are and their goal in Aegis. They usually show if that person has really read the lore and the races. I saw an application that made up cities and also made up racial conflicts. To me this would be considered an automatic DENIED!

3. The applicant's view of what Role-Playing is.

This also is very important as it also shows how they view roleplaying and will almost aways show what they will do if they get accepted. When they are writing this they show what other RP games they have played which in turn shows how they understand the culture of the race they will play as.

4. How long they have played MC/how many other servers they have played on and why they left.

How long they have played Minecraft would affect their performance on the server if they mean it or not. Not many people would have the same experience playing with someone who just started as someone who has played for even as long as a week. If you have just started you will not know the same amount of crafting and probably have to ask other players which could annoy them. The amount of servers you played on shows if you have the dedication to join the most dedicated server in the game. Also, if players are only coming here because they have been banned from their first server they might not be a good choice.

5. Pretty basic but a screenshot of your skin would be needed.

I have seen a couple accepted people who simply say the name of their skin like "Honeydew" and that does not fulfill the requirements to my standards. I think they should actually do what the instructions say and post a SCREENSHOT their skin.

Something else:

If I am accepted and if I would be allowed to, I would like a question to be added to the app that asks them to define Powergaming and Metagaming in their own words as I believe this will cut down on the Meta and Ban reports that the GMs constantly get. Thanks for reading and I hope you will consider me! Mili Irongut

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1) Biography

In every roleplaying server, a character needs a background. Without this, the player would not able to roleplay a character if he or she does not have a story. But the biography does not mean to be simple and original. For example, if your character had his family killed by Orcs. I would say thats too original and this will lead to a villain or a sad character. A good example would be a character that was raised up from a poor or rich, small events that makes the character towards a direction like to explore, mine, hunt. The longer the biography, the good character that person is and easiler to accept the player because they know how to roleplay and know the lore.

2) What do you know about role-playing?

We need to know if this person experienced or seen role-playing before. Some players were easily entered cause they use simple sentences saying the meaning of role-playing. I would like examples of how this person knows, like seen roleplaying from videos, at school or on servers. This is important for the server to get good role-players and I would think of the server's interest.

3) Grammar and good grip of English language

As a server, we do not want major mistakes while typing. This could confuse the players roleplaying with him or her, if they made a mistake. I would understand if they make few mistakes, we are humans after all but we do need to check before entering. If they made grammar and/or English language mistakes onto the application they basically lied on the question.

4) Metagaming and Powergaming

Few people know about these words because they experienced role-playing before. In my opinion, the answer has to be in-depth not simple answering. They could give examples of some to describe what they are. We experienced few metagaming and powergaming cause they got away with simple answers, they must know what they mean before entering the server or it would cause ban reports.

5) Skin

This may make you think this is not important but in my opinion it is. It shows understanding of the lore, it-self and know the races details. Humans are easy to do but does not mean a skin wearing random hoodies that does not relate to the time or lore. For other races, Orc, Elf and Dwarf. The players must know of these races by creating a skin or use a created skin related to this roleplaying server, to show they know. Without skin, that person would show no knowledge of the lore.

What are the top five things that you believe are the most important things in an application and why?

Now this question was simple for me. I have read many applications from many applicants since my time here at LOTC. Some, were absolutely fantastic. Others, I hated. I do not want to use that word strongly, but sometimes, it is true. I definitely want to help cut down on the few disastrous apps LOTC receives, and allow the spectacular applicants into our amazing world. This is how I wish to do it:

Biography

This Subject is one of the MOST important things to me. Why? It tells me much about the applicant. It allows me to see how this individual writes, does the applicant have a creative side to him? The biography also allows me to see how, and how well, they develop their characters. Of course I would accept a humble, frightened, but intelligent elf. I would not, however accept A Powergaming, blood thirsty "super powered" Elf. The Biography also tells me the level of will they have to be a part of the server, and if they enjoy Rping. If the biography is lengthy, creative, well developed, and interesting, I know the applicant cares. It usually tells me if the character will abide to the rules as well. All in all, The biography is the one subject I see ahead of others.

Effort and Time taken

Why, one might as, does this matter. I see it as the deciding factor. I know the applicant thirsts to belong on the server, enjoys RPing, is creative, and more, all by looking at the effort taken. I do not like to see one or two line answers to the many answers on the application. That shows NO effort, whatsoever. I very much enjoy reading paragraph answers, ones that interest you in the character. Answers that show you the applicant took time and developed his character to its fullest extent. It shows me the applicant cares. Another thing I see highly important is the time taken on format. I do enjoy seeing sub headings bolded, Fonts and different colors used and more. All of this together, shows me the applicant deserves to be on LOTC.

Grammar

Grammar is also very important to me. Again, it points out many things about the applicant. One, if they are articulated well. Do they take the time to check for mistakes? Do they have a great knowledge and understanding of words? This all is pointed out in grammar. I would not accept applicants that use "Text talk". If an applicant writes something in the terms of " My char haz good sword wlding skillz.", I find it unacceptable. I want applicants to care. I want applicants to show their knowledge, to take time on their applications, I want them to show me, why they want to be on LOTC. Being in possession of good grammar also helps when RPing. I feel safer accepting an applicant who formats, uses correct punctuation, etc. This is why grammar is an important topic for me.

Creativity

Yes, I know most of you saw this subject coming. I bring it up, even though it is a no-brainer, I find it important. I very much so like to see creativity in an application. Something I have never seen of heard before in an application. I enjoy so very much when I see an applicant that brings a character in our world that no one has seen before! Something that no one, but the applicant, had thought of. This is what I look for. It shows that again, the applicant took the time to create their application and their character. I like to see an applicant that really cares about how their character will turn out!

Knowledge and Understanding of Role-playing

I believe this subject is key when applying for LOTC. How would we survive as a roleplay server if none knew how to roleplay. The answer, we could not. I find it very essential that the applicant knows what role-playing is. I want the applicant to dsecribe it in depth, to show to us that they understand what role-playing involves. It does not have to be experience in role-playing, but at least general knowledge. I would like the applicant to show the research they have done on the topic, to see that they can fit in with LOTC.

Extra Information

I would just like to thank the reader for looking through my application, It means much to me. I enjoyed writing this application, it was a great experience! I wrote this application for reasons most say. I would LOVE to help the server more in any way possible, LOTC does so much to help expand our role-playing. I have to say, this server has really affected the way I think and act, and for this, I wish to help more than I can help already.

Cheers, Dalien Glaft.
