Patch 2.1 | Magic?! (Also Soulstones).

Hey Asulon!

I’m happy to say that today we are finally going to start implementing a true magic system to our game, along with many other awesome new

features in this patch!

Added a plugin called MagicSpells. This plugin was made by the same amazing programmer that made the book plugin we use. It’s amazingly well made, beyond completely configurable, and is implemented with books beautifully. A list of all the spells coded into this plugin can be seen here (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/magicspells/pages/spell-list/). Please note we will be modifying the majority of them to ensure fairness. This plugin works in a very unique way in that users must learn spells to be able to use them. They can learn the spell in a number of different ways, either directly from a GM, or anyone who already knows the spell, or from a “spell scroll”. These scrolls are reusable and are in the form of magic tomes, or books. We’ll be hiding them all over Asulon and giving some to different nations. This adds a very unique gameplay element as it allows different races to have different sets of spell books which will work almost as racial bonuses. For example, say the orcs obtain the spell tome for (firenova – Summons an expanding ring of fire.), and the leaders refuse to give anyone the knowledge of the spell except for orcs.

This will add a lot of dynamic and fun gameplay, plus gives GM’s a whole new array of rewards to give out for world events! We can even set these magic tomes to have a set amount of uses, so only a choosen few wise people may learn the spell, and then it is up to them who they teach the spell to.

Here are some of the basic META commands, I found it very helpful to read these as it explains a lot in few words.

list – Lists the player’s currently known spells.

help – Shows information about the indicated spell.

teach – Teaches another player a spell.

forget – Causes a player to forget a spell.

spellbook – Turns a bookcase into a spellbook that can teach players a specified spell when clicked. Usage is: /cast spellbook [uses]. The uses option is optional, and if left off, will default to the default-uses option in the config, which is -1. A -1 is infinite uses.

bind – Allows a player to override the default wand binding. Usage is: /cast bind, while holding the desired wand item in hand.

This plugin is so expansive and amazing, you can even create single use scrolls of spells, which allows the specified spell to be used only once on right clic of the scroll.

  • Added soulstones back to the game, they’re no portal blocks rather than sponge blocks.
  • Added Mori race to game, only GM’s can set users as Mori using /setmori; they have a unique respawn location.
  • Bugfixes to character cards, top line now shows MC name rather than display name twice.
  • Converted LWC MySQL to LWC SQLITE3, this should help lag as the developer has said MySQL is unstable with large amounts of protections (and we have 5k+)
  • Edited login message to once again show your total level and any in progress world events, along with the in-game date.
  • Other misc. changes and fixes.

Stay tuned for patch 2.2 next weekend, we’ll be overhauling NPCs, adding a new shop plugin using NPCs, and much much more!

Ah... this will finally be implemented.

Problem is, how will people who already know spells, obtain them. Reason being, I know some, but isn't being currently taught by any particular person, but earned them in a series of tight roleplay situations.

Scrolls, obviously. Sure, only mages can CAST magic, but strong mages can also create arcana to either be given to others to be used, or carried by the mage themselves to be used without draining themselves of whatever energy they would drain with a normal cast. Think magic rings, scrolls, we already have potions, and the like.

DAYM! :o Can we all use basic magic spells?

EDIT: Will the secret scrolls be hidden in UN-PERMED areas? :P

Same here, but far less from what Simon has come by. Just wondering how we might need to prove that to GMs...?
