Spectres', Shades, And Ghosts Galore!

[This is meant to be written as if someone was talking, or you were reading from a journal] We all walk the land of the living, not knowing, or caring about what may be watching. The Undead are gone, but there are still those not quite dead, who continue to roam. Some lost, others rejected, but none are truly dead, or living. They are somewhere in between...

Some may be asking, "What is this madness?" or "This is crazy, you are a madman!" but I can assure you, I am not. I have seen them, they wander, some in search of something, others to haunt. Some even here to kill, and will not rest untill revenge has been done. I have spent long hours, studying these beings. Some were friendly, some nasty, and others didn't seem to even notice me. They lurk in the old places, abandoned sites, and always are here for something they need. I have categorized these spirits, and named them and I will list them from most passive, to the darkest and most aggresive.

The most passive, and the easiest to "talk" to if you can call it that, are simple "Spirits" and can even be convinced to leave this realm, and go peacefully, but can become enraged if you do something they don't like. They, like other spectral figures, can move things like a vase, or a picture, from a distance when enraged, and I have even seen some of the older, and powerful spirits shake entire houses, but these are short lived bursts of energy, and the simple Spirit usually goes back to wandering after doing something like this.

One type, still quite passive, is alot like a Spirit, but it isn't tied to one spot, like a Wraith, Banshee, or Spirit. They wander the earth, is search of something, or someone they hold dear. Once they find what they were looking for, they become aware for a brief while, of where they are, how they are not real, and then see a light, the calling beacon of all spirits that they are to go, and be at peace. I call these spirits: "Wanderers" and are actually very easy to keep passive. They don't seem to possess the ability to move things, such as books, or a vase like the others froms do, and are just there to find what they want.

The thought of this creature makes me shudder, not the most molevolant I have seen, but that's not why I hate them more than the others. They scream, and that's how you know to run, and not hide. They can "smell" you, and they can easily track you if you just sit there, cowering in your hole. Their shriek is like nothing I have ever heard before. It shakes your bones, and turns your blood cold. The only way to escape one, is to "kill" it, like you can with Wraiths. They can't be sent to the light any other way, and make their home in an area like a section of woods, or swamp. The thing that saves you, is they won't go out of their home, or territory. After their scream, I have decided to call them: "Banshees" and I don't think I ever want to hear one of their screams again. You are truly lucky, if you manage to escape one.

There are the ones with hate, and rage filling their souls, I call these: Wraiths, they can't be reasoned with, and hold ghostly weapons, some mighty enough to strike down the toughest or Orc with a few blows. They want only to kill, and to continue their dark deeds from their life, or to get revenge on someone for something they did to the said Spirit or, "Wraith" as I have titled them. The way to send them to the light, is by slaying them. But, no normal weapons can harm them. They are not physical after all, and they must be killed by an enchanted weapon, or by taking their weapon, and destroying it. Be warned though, taking the weapon of a Wraith, will make it hunt you, untill it kills you, or you destroy it's weapon. [i have included some of this lore, but it would be a massive wall of text, so here's some also. I will try to have these as a seperate form, and have differences. Here is the wiki http://www.lordofthecraft.net/wiki/index.php?title=Wraith]

The most powerful, and odd of all of these, are dark beings, who seem to be cloaked, as if their very form, would drive you mad. They come and go as they please, vanishing and reaperaing seemingly out of thin air, and are usually unseen be noraml people unless they choose to reveal themselves. Those who are more advanced in the arts of magic, can actively see these spirits, as either blurs, or as the shade would be seen if it revealed its self to all. They are always dark blackish color, where a Wraith, or Banshee for example, can be a dark greyish color, or a lighter color. This is why I have chosen to call them: "Shades" as they are the darkest of the spirits. They seem to have an apptitude to learn also, I recall one started out with single words, and eventually, after 2 years with it, it would hold conversations with it. One thing I could never get over though, was the way they hissed, and drew out their "s" when they spoke. They come to be Shades, when they are on the world for so long, they grow a personality, and are actively aware of their surroundings, where a Wraith, or Spirit is not. They are the only forms of spirits I have seen that are self aware, and are not to mess around with, saying a simple word, can trigger it into a rage and make it your lifes bane. There is only one way to send a Shade to the light, and that is to get what it wants. It will want something of meaning though, like a person, or something like a necklace that meant the world to it. They will not get it though, and will get others to do it for them. They are manipulative, and convincing creatures too, be warned if you ever agree to help one. Some can't be saved though, if one requires to see a person, they will want that person alive, and the remains will only anger it. This is the sorrow of Shades, for some can't be saved. . . Shades though, can be very helpful, and are actually quite nice if you don't anger them. Then have lots of trouble interacting with the world by touch though, and can only do things like touching, if they have a strong connection, like if they found someone they were close to in their past life, they may be able to touch this person. I have also found, that the only way to dispell them, even if it is a short time, is with a golden, or enchanted weapon. But the enchantment has to be stronger than the Shade's own willpower. [For RP purposes, don't send them to Cloud Temple as it would be a OOC journey back, as they are sent back to where they died as a physical being when dispelled, but the player should switch to a different character for 30 minutes, and the shade would follow the 30 minute forgetting rule, this way we avoid meta.]

Spirits don't just appear though, they will have needed something to keep them here, in the Wanderers case, it is something they are searching for, or with Wraiths it is revenge, to kill, or continue their bloody deeds in the afterlife, as they did in the life before. Nobody is sure what holds the spirits here, but from the rumors surrounding them, it seems they are female victims, of murders or suicides who deep down, weren't ready to leave. I will continue to study them, but I think I have got most of the information that I could from my studies, but I will still consider ideas, and continue to observe these creatures.

[i am open to suggestions via PM, as this is in RP, and I may be adding. Also, Jigglypuff Approves :3]

The name "Shades" is already taken by susitsu and I. But other than that, I like the lore.

Yeah, it will be a type of ghost. There will be requirements for it, and I am hoping this will go to be something like VA's where you have to apply for it. Shade will be the hardest one to get, and will require you to be one of the others for an extended period.

You've been RPing as it quite well so far, especially with the haunting aspect of it.

Yeah, I wrote this lore upon GM request so we could make it officially accepted/denied. I hope it get's accepted.

At the beginning of Asulon I roleplayed as a ghost of a fisherman called Myre, it was interesting as I would often just sit fishing, and if anything disturbs me I would moan at them or follow them for a bit. There was a situation a player took my boat and broke it so I continued to follow him whispering boat, after a while I began to yell at him and he finally decided to make me a new boat in which I think forgot about the whole situation and continued fishing. Jolly good fun being a ghost or spectre! :D

Just to add I recommend making the skin with different tones of blue, for my character's eyes and mouth I used bright yellow.

This is perfect! My character is planning on writing a tale of a ghost-orc that haunts the outside of his inn once night falls, hoping to scare other hobbits into staying inside the store. Maybe now there can actually be a ghost. Mwahaha!
