Adventure into Kal'Urugan

Being of the adventurous and inquisitive breed of elves, I have always held a great curiosity about the entire land of Aegis. Therefore I was pained one day to learn of the mighty underground dwarf halls, and to learn that elves are barred passage.

I formulated a plan, then, to see the great stone halls, for I knew I must.

Here is my journal.

Day 1: Into the City

I killed a wolf today with long, shaggy hair. I dyed the hair until it was a rusty color, and I fashioned it into a false beard. Placing my helmet on my head, I headed out onto the road towards Kal'Urugan.

I snuck past a large delegation at the front gate easily, but before I had hardly got past the doors the guard dwarf stopped me.

He posed many uncomfortable questions, and I was almost found out and imprisoned before my adventure had even begun.

Luckily, my tongue did not forsake me and I managed to convince the stout dwarf I was indeed of his race.

With his leave, I quickly dashed towards the entrance of the city. A sloping stairway-tunnel opens on the side of a cliff. I took it down, into a breathtaking sight: Mighty pillars, almost as big around as the great redwoods of Laurelin. Many of them lined the huge hall.

After gaping for a few moments, I began exploring the rooms. Monster traps, farms, and underground forests all populated the grand hall. The forests even boasted underground wolves. Taking shelter in a hollow log, I rested.

Day 2: The Throne

After my respite, I continued on through the hall.

As I gazed at the deep lava rivers, something struck me: Where were all the dwarves? I had seen naught but two people in my entire venture. Twas a mystery that I suppose I will never know the answer to.

I was loath to leave the grand pillars behind, but I knew I must continue on.

I was surprised, then, to find at the end of the hall a sight even more breathtaking: The largest cavern in probably all of Aegis. In the center was a domed throne room adorned with gold and other finery. A ceiling of lava was supported by solid gold pillars. The dwarves are prosperous indeed.

To the side was a long table for dining and meetings. Colorful paintings lined the walls.

I exited the throne room, and began exploring the shops around the edge of the cavern. Entering one, I was admiring the collection of mushrooms when suddenly, I was doused with freezing cold water. About-facing and drawing my diamond sword, I soon realized that it was just a natural spring in the rock, and some surface body had caused it to gush unexpectedly.

Sighing with relief, I stroked my fake beard, only to realize to my chagrin that the rust color had leaked out, leaving the grayish color behind.

Can I pass as an elderly dwarf without a collection of wrinkles?

As I searched for a place to rest, I found a lovely home that was for sale. When I finally lay to rest in a hole in the rock, I was pondering whether I could get away with living here if I had a large enough stock of fake beards.

Day 3:

What a riveting tale, Enadael. I pray you, continue.

I have always wondered what Kal'Urugan and the rest of the Dwarven cities myself, but I've never made the journey. I'm almost glad, seeing as how it is nigh impossible to get in unless one does what you did.

Tis strange you were required to disguise yourself to achieve passage into the great halls of Kal'Urguan... I know of many elves who have entered the great underground city. As for why it is so empty, it seems the only purpose the city serves is for official state business, other than that the City is empty.

aye, me and the guards laughed long of the elf with the false beard, Next time elf, dont claim ye being a dwarf when ye is almost two meters long! ((Answer: 2 m = 78.7401 ")). And also the beard dosent look legit when its not hanging on completly.

I thought I noticed a twinkle in your eye, Master Dwarf.

Still, a wise elf once said

'I wear so many disguises so that only those of a sharp wit might spot me.'

I was not aware that elfs had to sneak in to get to Kal'Urugan. I was there not more then a week ago and got in fine. I was questioned at the gate but is to be expected during these dark times.

Perhaps I was misinformed....

Now I have a score to settle with the bartender at the local inn!

I don't even see how we would have a beef with the dwarfs, it not like we're at war or anything.

(( In popular fantasy, the elves and dwarves have always been enemies. ))

((not in this, and thats kinda nice))

(( I assumed it was, because not only does the server name sound like Lord of the Rings, but on the Lore page it says elves only have access to Laurelin and Oren. ))
