That being said, Asulon is an actual book title which makes me wonder who picked it. Aegis is itself a collar that professed a skill or a 'deity' that watched over the wearer of said collar. It also pertains to the AEGIS; a naval warfare technological system.

I chose the name, after roaming through Greek words with English derivatives I found Asulon, which loosely translates to "Sanctuary" !

Adyton, Xanthos & Lysistrata all were pulled from the same list aswell actually ~

Har, I recognized Adyton and Xanthos immediately having Greek-influence.

Asulon and to a lesser extent Lysistrata intrigued me to their origin.

Native, could I kindly present to you my idea? I don't want to sound hateful at all in the rest of the post.

I find those Greek/fantasy names a bit cheesy and overused. They all sound like they are from some fairy tale... What sounds more like a world infected with villains, wars, zombies, skeletons, death, disease and hunger? Asulon, or Med'ahvnig? The name should give you a picture of what the server is like, right? That is why I never joined Celestial Dreams... Sounds too cheesy, fantasy inspired and all. I think many people feel the same way. I only joined the server because its name caught my eye. Many servers advertise being RP servers, and most of them aren't RP and suck. I would have just skipped this server, tired of searching for something enjoyable to play, and that would have been a mistake.

So, I think, Native, you should try and get some NEW inspiration for the world name, Aegis, Asulon and others are too elvish...Just take a look at how elven places in LOTR are named, and all will be clear.

Also, I've noticed that we are basing our world off of something... I already dislike the idea. I would find it awesome if we just made an ORIGINAL world, completely thought of from the ground up. Maybe give it a theme? Maybe the map is mostly snowy, and you have to travel further out to find fertile, warm lands to live in, and have the sanctuary not look fancy, but have it be made of logs, stone bricks, and planks. I would love a completely medieval experience, without all the fantasy around... Well, fantasy only in the elven parts of the map, and us boring humans can have our endless plains, snowy hills, and such.

I can see what you mean. However, I've always felt it's important that with such an array of culture and age-groups, that the names we choose be easily pronounced.

Aegis will always be something our players remember and using Greek words, weather they be influenced by English or not has been a small way for us to stay within the bounds of our original home, Aegis.

But by all means, lay them on us if you feel so inclined!

The thing is, my dear, lovely beard, that I am searching for something that sounds different, yet is easy to pronounce. I don't want a world named UUg'Z'Ughbrtayz. I just want something a little different than a fairytale-type name. By the way, most of the people from Aegis are dead. By the time we get a new world, there may only be a few people that lived in Aegis. Perhaps, none.

I agree with you here, I am getting a bit tired of so many fantasy places sounding exactly the same... But without fantasy what would this server be? This world? And honesty most fantasy is based off some fact.... And as for the name I think we should break "Tradition" and do something that starts with something other than A, but will still flow off the tongue... and honestly I think we shouldn't base it off any RL language and have our own meaning for it. In fact I like Med'Ahvnik ((Sounds a bit dwarven

)) and have it mean something like "Land of the new dawn" or something... in fact we could have one name for the new place, and have different races call it different tings example : Name: Asulon, Dwarves call it Med'Ahvnik, and the kha call it apeland. <---- just an idea..

No one said the transition would be soon. This is preparing for the eventuality. Personally if it happens I expect it to be around January again.

I agree with the statement above. And I love Asulon, but it's not a matter of if we move to the new map, it's when. This may not happen for months, or maybe it'll be weeks. This thread is not for complaining ether, it is for constructive criticism for the new map, where the entire community has a say in what may happen.
