Howdy folks - it's now 2013, and this is the first Newsletter of the year! Wahay! I've got a few things to go over in this edition, including: our Most Noted Player, the winners of the Voting Reward, the Festive Competition Winners and a round-up of the recent updates. So, let's start.

A NEW YEAR - A NEW START

2013 is going to be a huge year for the Lord of the Craft - the coming of our 3.0 Realm will be a massive change for the server along with all the new, flashy game mechanics coming with it. My aim is to make 2013 the best year for LOTC so far, and I fully intend on making that aim come true - make it your aim, and help the Lord of the Craft grow better this year. But how?

There's a huge amount of things that YOU can do to help the server grow, for example:

  • Simply voting
  • Aiding new players, and taking them under your wings
  • Using the forums
  • Joining a staff team
  • Submitting ideas for Game Mechanics and Lore
  • Providing honest feedback on the server to the staff

These are but a few of the things that you, personally can do to help LOTC - so, why not do them?

MOST NOTED PLAYER

As with every Newsletter so far, we have a Most Noted Player. This edition we have a member who has dedicated so much time to the server, that it is quite amazing. His many projects greatly assist the playerbase and staff in their everyday needs, and he's always around to help anyone in need. This week's Most Noted Player is, of course, Thu'um. I sent nppeck out to catch him, and have a word or two with him:

Danny: Well, I've got something that'll brighten your day good-sir.

Danny: You able to stick around for a wee chat?
Thu'um: Yes.
Thu'um: I am, what would that be?
Thu'um: I could use something to brighten my day.
Danny: Well - thanks to your consistent and impressive dedication towards improving the server, the staff have decided that you - are January's Most Noted Player. :)
Thu'um: Thank you!
Thu'um: :P
Danny: So, as per tradition - I've got to have a chat with you.
Thu'um: I'm all for a chat.
Danny: So, I think most players will have seen the work that you do around the server in the form of 'projects'. What is it that gives you the ideas for these projects, and what drives you to do them?
Thu'um: Often times when I get the inspiration for my projects when I pace my room and an idea pops in my head. My drive or motivation is for the positive feedback and responses from the community. The community needs positive outlooks and useful places of information, I try my best to think of unique or creative projects that have not yet been thought of or attempted.
Thu'um: Other sorts of inspiration come from random times, though usually I get an idea when the time is right. When I get an idea, I ponder it and ask a few questions in the form of, "How well will this be received,", and "What will I need to do to make this successful?"
nppeck: So what future projects do you have planned out?
Thu'um: I'm not entirely sure. Sometimes I get inspiration by just meditating upon a particular idea and If I believe the idea will go far, I'll use it.
nppeck: I see
nppeck: Now what has been the most interesting experience on the server?
nppeck: What was that like?
Thu'um: Well, I had just gotten a Villain Application Accepted -- maybe not the best, but it was Accepted. I contacted Coaster and my character ended up conspiring with his, Augustus Flay, and eventually was given the spot. When the Flay's did their daily Villainous Role-play, it consisted of: Flaying (Skinning), Raiding, and other 'devious'
Thu'um: activities
Thu'um: My character didn't participate in the skinning as much as he did the other activities.
Thu'um: All around, it was a great experience.
Thu'um: If you're talking in terms of Out-of-character, I've had my share of moments. :P
nppeck: Can you describe those out of character moments?
Thu'um: Well, often times on Lord of the Craft you meet interesting people. Many times I've met pretty unique people and I just have a laugh with them, in all good fun. Teamspeak is a good outlet for this, all you have to do is sit back and have fun.
nppeck: Now, regarding your projects again, what has been your favorite so far?
Thu'um: That's hard to say, but I enjoyed the Timeline a lot. The Statistical Analysis Project is rather meticulous, as you have to boot up a calculator and make every calculation, it got pretty boring but now that I look back on it, it was a fun project. My favorite is probably the timeline.
nppeck: How much of the timeline do you think you've completed so far?
Thu'um: Well, it is always needing more revisions, dates, and other content. People ask me "Why is it still a work-in-progress?", well the answer to that question is the very fact that Lord of the Craft is always evolving, something is always happening, so we can catalog that in the timeline. The timeline will never essentially be finished -- however in terms of how completed it is, I am looking for dates about anything important regarding LoTC's history, this even includes notable role-playing dates. :3
Thu'um: I'd say it is adequate to show our history. It could use some more content here and there but it is pretty good. I'm not really that good at evalulating the quality of my projects and guides, that lies in the community, heh.
nppeck: Well to wrap it up, how do you feel the server is currently?
nppeck: How has it changed since you joined?
Thu'um: Well, the server has changed quite a bit since I've joined -- Administration, Unique Community Members leaving, but I try to take it in a certain context. Lord of the Craft is what you make it as. If you sit around arguing, then you're not doing it right. I feel the server is currently in a stable condition, despite other's beliefs upon the subject. The Administration are doing a good job. We need to trust them, and even trust the other members of the community. When we do that, Lord of the Craft will be an incredible place.
nppeck: What do you believe that 3.0 will bring?
Thu'um: Having seen 3.0, I am confident that it will be a fantastic outlet for role-play and it will most likely improve the morale of the community. I am anxiously awaiting its' release, as are many members of the community. ;)
nppeck: Do you have any plans for 3.0 personally?
Thu'um: Originally, I did. However, your plans could change a bit. I just wish to find a stable spot for role-play and enjoy myself, after all, that's what Lord of the Craft is about.
nppeck: Well, that's all the question I have, thank you for taking the time to sit down for an interview and I wish you the best of luck in the future.
Thu'um: Of course. The same to you Nppeck. Happy New Year LoTC.

TOP VOTERS

As announced back in early December, we have returned the voting-for-VIP scheme! I am pleased to announce that two members voted sufficient times this month to win this, and both had an equal score at the end, however only one can win the grand-prize. As chosen by a random number generator:- EmeraldStag is this months Top Voter! Emerald has won a $25 VIP that will last an entire month as well as a nifty little forum badge once we have the system running! However, as this was the first month of the scheme, and there was two top voters, I decided that I'd also give the other top voter a wee reward as well, so - HeeroZero has won himself a $10 VIP that'll last a month. Keep in mind - in the other months, only one person will win! Congratulations to EmeraldStag and HeeroZero!

FESTIVE COMPETITION WINNERS

This 'Festive-Season' we ran two competitions - a Graphics one, and a Creative Writing one. Neither had the turn-out that we were expecting, so I was rather disappointed. However, we do still have two winners! For the Creative Writing Competition, our winner was EminentFate96 for their piece 'Sam's Snowman' which can be found

here and for the Graphics competition 'Aiden' for his rather fancy sleigh design which can be found here. Congratulations to you both!

RECENT RULE CLARIFICATION AND AJUSTMENTS

There has been quite a few additions and clarifications of the rules over the past week or so, so I've decided just to pop in a small part here compiling them. Please do not discuss them below, instead flock to the thread which contained them as mentioned!

  • Half-Breeds do inherit both curses from their parents races, as stated here.
  • Orgies, any nudity, inappropriate touching or feeling when clothed, strong sexual references or innuendoes, and bestiality, necrophilia or paedophilia of any kind is entirely outlawed, and is to be firmly enforced.
  • It is also now permanently bannable to play on an our Minecraft Server or access our TeamSpeak under a proxy, VPN or any other IP-masking system without the express permission of staff.

Thanks for reading, now go out and roleplay!
